20.01.2022 We support...stuff! Raising awareness and funds has become a bit of a thing for us. Like our page to be kept up to date with fundraising events we are taking part in.... Read on for Regional Manager Ambers words on teamwork and fundraising for the @BloodyLongWalk. "Mitochondrial disease is one of many lesser known conditions that we come across when working with NDIS participants and I thought it would be a positive team activity while raising awareness of Mito. Its been fun doing this as a team. Some of us may be finding it more difficult than others but were dedicated to seeing it through to the end. Im both surprised and thankful for the generosity of our family, friends and the greater community. The response has been fantastic. Were a close-knit team in Gippsland, so social distancing aside, its a good excuse to do something together that is also good for our own wellbeing while making a difference to others." #TheBloodyLongWalk2020 #TheBloodyLongVirtualWalk2020 #JoinTheMitoMovement #AreYouUpForIt #CureMito #Mitochondria #MitochondrialDisease #Mito #WalkToCureMito

13.01.2022 Invisible illness and disability are real and they impact people to varying degrees everyday. MS has touched our CoAbility family so we are super aware of the invisible impact it has daily, but there are many other disabilities and illnesses that also have severe invisible impacts. Awareness and kindness are key... remember you don’t know what people are coping with on the inside

13.01.2022 "It's quite liberating not even attempting to conform, and it's quite hilarious making people uncomfortable and challenging their preconceptions, and not caring what they think at all." - Georgia Cranko. What a legend! We think you're awesome Georgia.

13.01.2022 Its time #ForNature! Today is World Environment Day. This Day aims to help build momentum and unite the global community in actions for positive change. The theme for 2020 calls for urgent action to protect #biodiversity. Biodiversity describes the variety of life on Earth - an intricate web encompassing 8 million species in which each part is interdependent. When one component is changedor removedthe entire system is affected, and this can produce positiveor negativecon...sequences. Nature responds to some of the most pressing challenges faced by humans today. It provides us with oxygen, purifies the water we drink, ensures fertile soil, and produces the variety of foods we require to stay healthy and resist disease. The emergence of #COVID19 has underscored the fact that, when we destroy biodiversity, we destroy the system that supports human life. By upsetting the delicate balance of nature, we have created ideal conditions for pathogensincluding coronavirusesto spread. We are intimately interconnected with nature. If we dont take care of nature, we cant take care of ourselves. 10.01.2022 Mitochondrial disease (mito) is a debilitating and potentially fatal disease that reduces the ability of the mitochondria to produce this energy. This disease is due to a fault in one or more of the genes that make up the mitochondria. This means a hiccup will occur in the production of mitochondria from the time of conception. As the foetus grows, some mitochondria can divide and grow as normal whilst others will divide and grow abnormally. When the mitochondria are not work...ing properly, cells begin to die until eventually whole organ systems fail and the patients life itself is compromised. The ratio of healthy to unhealthy mitochondria can also vary greatly from cell to cell and organ to organ. This is the main reason why it is so difficult to know where and when and how severely mitochondrial disease can strike each person. 08.01.2022 An important update for our Victorian community...

07.01.2022 'We already know that unpaid carers have some of the worst levels of wellbeing in our communities. To also be discriminated against because of their caring role only exacerbates the social isolation, anxiety and fatigue that leads to poor mental wellbeing,’ said Carers Australia CEO, Ms Liz Callaghan. 06.01.2022 Loads of people ask me how they can get involved in disability advocacy. There are lots of ways including writing and speaking, campaigning, volunteering, part...icipating in art, and joining disability member organisations. I encourage you to become a member of People with Disability Australia (PWDA). People with Disability Australia is a national disability rights, advocacy and representative organisation that is made up of, led and governed by people with disability. By becoming a member you can be involved in: - Consultancy - like the recent survey on how COVID-19 is impacting disabled people (https://pwd.org.au/experiences-of-people-with-disability-d/) - Policy - including violence prevention, NDIS and international policy - the Disability Royal Commission - Campaigns - getting involved in campaigns for community and systemic change - Participating in the Mardi Gras float... and more! You can also shape the organisation by way of having your say on the strategic plan and board elections. Members must be disabled - disability includes people with physical disability. cognitive disability, chronic illness, mental illness, and who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Become a member by clicking on this link: https://pwd.org.au/get-involved/membership/ Im going to do a series of posts about getting involved in disability advocacy, so stay tuned. And yes, this post is shareable Image: a square featuring pastel green and yellow watercolour paint, swirled together, with a small white space at the bottom. Get involved in disability advocacy is in black capital letters between two small bold black lines. 04.01.2022 "In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist. We must be anti-racist" ~ Angela Davis Black Lives Matter! My company and I standby and support the protests taking place in the US and around the world at the moment. It fills me with sadness and shame to see such the injustices continue to happen around us and I will not remain silent. We can not remain silent when we witness racism any more than we can stand by and silently witness the infringement of anyones human... rights. Even though we are halfway around the world we offer our voice in support of those fighting the good fight and have contributed to the Bail Fund for those protesters that have been arrested. And in our own backyard, we acknowledge and call out the appalling record of Aboriginal deaths in custody.
