25.01.2022 Can we all agree that getting young boys and girls into the weights room earlier is a good thing? If not, I’d love to hear the counter argument AND I would love yo Utopia’s put your thoughts in the comments. Let’s start a discussion as to why we do/don’t need to start them lifting earlier. I think there is a lot of fear floating around that is keep people from seeing certain benefits. But my opinion aside, I’d love to invite good, honest and fair discussion around the point.... 25.01.2022 As a strength coach, most of my work is done in the weights room. On occasion you’ll see me and my athletes on court tinkering and tweaking movements patterns. The question I ask is how are we making the athletes better at the stuff they normally do? Justin has one of the most deadly shots in the SBL and I ain’t touching it. Most coaches will give him shooting drills of which he doesn’t really need. How can we increase the speed of his first step? How do we increase his ...vertical jump to make his release point higher? How do we increase his lateral quickness to increase space between him and the defender? These are all questions we CAN answer through smart programming. 11.01.2022 Back training is one of the most important parts of my programming when athletes come to see me at the Land Performance Centre. Yup, we do a lot of chin ups, rows, pulls, and hinge movements that are all geared around balancing out structural imbalances as well as evening up the strength deficits in most athletes. (Most are stronger through their anterior than they are in their posterior). A) Supinated Grip Chin Ups - 5x6 3010... B1) Inverted Row - 4x10-12 B2) TRX Row - 4x12-15 C1) Bent Over Single Arm Row - 4x 10-12 C2) Prone Incline DB Trap 3 Raises - 4x 10-12 Give it a go and tell me how you went.

But what you don’t see is the amount of single leg work that goes on behind the scenes. Developing strength in each leg in isolation plus eliminating imbalances is the name of the game when it comes to developing lower limb strength.
