25.01.2022 Had a blast yesterday chatting with the coaches at the Sturt Sabres Basketball Club about Modern Coaching Methods. Topics covered included Self-Determination Theory, Perception-Action Coupling, a Constraints-Led Approach, Representative Practice Design, and the coach as an Environmental Designer.

24.01.2022 Happy to announce I will be running my CLF Skill Builder camp in the January school holidays on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th January from 9am 12pm daily. The CLF Skill Builder is to prepare those players moving in to U12 and U14 District basketball in 2021 players born 2008, 2009, 2010. We will be expanding on the concepts and skills we have taught the players in the past, but we’ll also be adding a NEW 3v3 tournament on the second day of the camp. ... Please note there is only 54 spots available.

23.01.2022 Fantastic turnout today by the coaches at the North Adelaide Rockets Basketball Club for our first in a series of coach education sessions. 90% attendance including coaches from all levels - NBL1 all the way down to U10s. What topics did we cover? Follow my Twitter thread to see: https://twitter.com/coachliamfl/status/1330419695980142592

23.01.2022 One way of attacking HEDGE PNR D I am seeing more is re-screening and pinning the Hedge defender as they recover. See this clip from Basketball Champions League team Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club. Its difficult for any defender to Hedge two PNRs in succession, let alone when they are sealed from doing so.

22.01.2022 A reminder that my CLF Skill Builder basketball camps are now on sale. Please see information below. I’m excited to announce I will be conducting my Skill Builder camps in the October school holidays at the state of the art Red Centre located at Prince Alfred College. The camps will be held on Wednesday October 7th & Thursday October 8th 2020. This time around, the Skill Builder will be split into two camps: an U12 camp (9am 12pm) and an U14 camp (1:30pm 4:30pm). ... We will be expanding on the work we have done in the previous camps around ‘Advantage Based’ offence, but also adding a few more different elements fast breaking, team defence, PNR Offence. The CLF Skill Builder camps are for those players who want to be challenged in a way they never have before. Players are exposed to concepts, tactics and skills that I have learnt over my nearly 30 years of coaching and consulting in the Australian NBL, Europe, Asia and the NBA. We teach the players ‘how to play’, not just ‘what to do’, so that their ‘basketball IQ’ improves and they know how to apply their newly learnt skills within a game context. With age ranges limited to two or three-year bands and the camp restricted to Division 1 & 2 district players, you will only compete against other athletes of similar age, size and ability. The U12 Skill Builder camp is for players born 2009 & 2010 whilst the U14 Camp is for players born 2007 & 2008. Players must be current division 1 or 2 District players. At the conclusion of the camp, all players receive a written evaluation which includes personalised feedback, as well as, tips on how to improve their game moving forward. The cost for the camp is $135. To register, for more information and to read testimonials from previous campers, go to https://www.coachliamflynn.com/camps/.

19.01.2022 Really excited to partner with North Adelaide Rockets Basketball Club both now and into the future. Thanks to Sturt for the many wonderful years and memories.

18.01.2022 Week 4 of my coach ed sessions with Basketball South Australia's High Performance staff was on "PNR Offence". Quite possibly my favourite topic to talk about! We started off introducing concepts for the PNR Creator - including the 3 "Ss" (Spacing, Set up, Slice angle). See this clip. See the full thread on my Twitter page: https://twitter.com/coachliamfl/status/1302837804309700608... If your club/team/organisation would like to book in for some coach education clinics, contact me through my website - https://coachliamflynn.com. My clients range from professional & college teams, national federations, all the way down to junior clubs and associations.

17.01.2022 Week 3 of my coach ed sessions with Basketball South Australia's High Performance staff was on "Defensive Concepts". We started with the question: "What does a good defensive possession look like?". When our players know what it looks like, much of our coaching is done for us. View my full Twitter thread describing the learnings and outcomes of the session here: https://twitter.com/coachliamfl/status/1300000492190195712

16.01.2022 ICYMI - I recently released my new video - "How to teach Advantage based offence" on CoachTube.com. The video shows a collection of small sided games to introduce the concept of what advantages are, how to create them and why they lead to highly efficient shots. The method of creating an advantage in this clip is the 'Get'. Its the precursor to PNR play. In the three clips we have created a) Lane advantage for a layup 2) overplay advantage + 2 on the ball advantage which l...ead to a 3pt c) Space advantage which opens up a 3pt. Grab the video now from this link: https://coachtube.com//how-to-teach-advantage-ba/12473735

14.01.2022 This week I took a deep dive into the top teams in the Italian LBA competition. So many creative sets and interesting tactics! Over the next few days I'll be doing a couple of threads on what I saw both on O and D. Check out today's thread on the best sets from the league on my Twitter account: https://twitter.com/coachliamfl/status/1331727667863851008

13.01.2022 Four places remain for players born 2008 and 2007 at my U14 CLF Skill Builder camp in the October school holidays. The camp is on October 7th & 8th from 1:30pm - 4:30pm daily. It will be held at the state-of-the-art "Red Centre" at Prince Alfred College. The players will be exposed to concepts, tactics and skills that I have learnt over my nearly 30 years of coaching and consulting in the Australian NBL, Europe, Asia and the NBA. We teach the players ‘how to play’, not jus...t ‘what to do’, so that their ‘basketball IQ’ improves and they know how to apply their newly learnt skills within a game context. Here's an example of the kind of teaching environment your child will be exposed to at the CLF Skill Builder. At the conclusion of the camp, all players receive a personal evaluation which includes tips on how to improve their game moving forward. 12.01.2022 Week 6 of my CLF coach education course with Basketball South Australia High Performance staff was on "Full Court Offence + Modern Coaching methods". Often we as coaches work on Fast Breaking OR Half court O, but not nearly as much on the process of moving from one to another. The biggest theme we focused on when transitioning from Fast break to half court offence was that of "Arrive playing". We want to flow seamlessly from Fast Break/Press Breaker into Half Court offence. We do that by being on the 3pt line in 4 seconds ready to play EVERY TIME. If your club/team/organisation would like to book in for my 6 week Coach education course, contact me through my website - https://coachliamflynn.com. My clients range from professional & college teams, national federations, all the way down to junior clubs and associations.

10.01.2022 Day 1 of the CLF Hoops SHowcase is in the books. Today was physical testing, shooting tests and team practice. The topics for practice were PNR Defence (How to Cancel screens) and PNR Offence (How to attack coverages both in the PNR and with off ball movement). The players did an exceptional job picking up these advanced concepts.

09.01.2022 Great workout with Adelaide 36ers guard Alex Mudronja & 2022 Prospect Sam Warren yesterday where we focused on shooting off the bounce. One of the major things when trying to create a SPACE advantage to shoot is are you selling to the D you are actually driving to the basket? Are your Eyes & shoulder DOWN like this?... See my Twitter thread on this topic here: https://twitter.com/coachliamfl/status/1308952928154050561

07.01.2022 Coaches, looking for help with how to teach free flowing offence to your team? Check out my NEW basketball coaching video - "How to teach Advantage based offence" on CoachTube.com. Here's a sneak peak where I teach the players WHEN to cut. Grab the video here: https://coachtube.com//how-to-teach-advantage-ba/12473735

06.01.2022 8 places still remain for the U14 Skill Builder camp in the October school holidays. We have sold out of the U12 camp but have a waiting list for those who would like to be considered if a place opens up. Now is the time to grab one of the last spots for your child! Details to register can be found at:... https://www.coachliamflynn.com/camps/ Here's a sneak peak of the kind of coaching your child will recieve at the Skill Builder camps.

05.01.2022 This past week with the Basketball South Australia NPP athletes we've worked on attacking Ice coverage in Side PNRs. One theme we worked on was "Is the corner empty?". If it is, we can attack with the bounce more - like here: Refuse + engage 2 + Gets game with screener. Want more tips on PNR play? Pick up my CoachTube.com course - "The Art of the Mid Pick and Roll". https://coachtube.com//the-art-of-the-mid-pick-an/5423759

04.01.2022 Just got done with this awesome paper written by the great man, Rob Mason, on the efficacy of verbal & video feedback in pro football (AFL). I recommend it highly! Here's the link: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1747954120951080 Follow my Twitter thread here (https://twitter.com/coachliamfl/status/1303556848902004736) for some ways this translates to basketball.

02.01.2022 Week 5 of my coach ed sessions with Basketball South Australia's High Performance staff was on "PNR Defence & Transition Defence". We started thing off with a discussion about how the best PNR defence is that the PNR never occurs or it only occurs in non-attacking locations. We call this concept 'cancelling screens'. The defender on the PNR creator can do this by forcing a 'wide' drive. The defender on the screener can cancel the action by not over helping on 'wide' drives... and also staying with the slip (like in this clip). See the full twitter thread here: https://twitter.com/coachliamfl/status/1305357220540854272 If your club/team/organisation would like to book in for a 6 week coach education course, like Basketball South Australia has, contact me through my website - https://coachliamflynn.com. My clients range from pro & college teams, national federations, junior clubs and associations.

01.01.2022 Excited to publish my new video on 'How to teach 'Advantage Based' offence. On sale now on CoachTube.com: https://coachtube.com//how-to-teach-advantage-ba/12473735 The video shows a collection of small sided games to introduce and refine the concept of 'Advantage based' offence. ... Here's a sneak peak. Thanks to Joel Spear at Fuel My Social who did an amazing job of filming and producing the vision. I highly recommend his work! Check his website out here https://www.fuelmysocial.com.au.

01.01.2022 A really interesting read here for all coaches about how teaching through the use of constraints ("let the drill do the talking"), as opposed to, heirachial coaching models with lots of prescriptive feedback, leads to greater engagement & learning outcomes for the athlete. You don't need to be a Rocket scientist to understand the terminology. https://doi-org.ezp01.library.qut.edu.au//17408989.2015.10
