20.01.2022 Be Careful on the roads After the rain from the last few days some roads may be slippery, covered with water or even closed. A 'road closed' or a 'road flooded' sign means that road is unsafe to travel on. If you come across a flooded road which has no 'road closed' or 'road flooded sign', it may still be unsafe to travel through as floodwater can wash away the road leaving deep holes and uneven surfaces which cannot be seen. 18.01.2022 THINKING OF JOINING NSW SES? SES volunteers have been helping communities during floods, storms and other disasters since 1955. Volunteers are the most valuable asset of the SES. They are individuals coming from diverse ranges of ages, backgrounds and abilities. In Cobar, the SES is the primary rescue service for the Local Government Area providing accredited personnel to perform tasks like Road Crash Rescue, and various General Land Rescue activities. The SES also supports ...other emergency services in times of natural and man-made disasters and is committed to building safer and more resilient communities. We are always on the lookout for new members to join our Unit. In particular, we need more drivers for our rescue truck as well as a few men to help even up the Unit numbers. More members would also increase Unit availability and help reduce response time when called out for a Road Crash or other rescue task. There are no pre-requisites to becoming an SES volunteer. SES volunteers are highly trained in responding to emergency situations. Training includes storm and water damage responses, equipment use, search and rescue techniques, operational management, logistics, administration, media and many other operational areas. These skills are used to respond to emergency situations to help keep communities safe and protect life and property. Have you ever thought about helping your community in times of need by becoming an SES Volunteer? There are several types of volunteering available - see this link for more details https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/get-involved/volunteer/ Being an SES volunteer provides challenges as well as an opportunity to learn new skills while making new friends. #VOLUNTEEREXPERIENCE

The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 4:05 pm. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210.

02.01.2022 This ANZAC Day we recognise and appreciate the actions of all our serviceman and women. #NSWSES developed out of Civil Defence, with many of our founding members across the service being ex-military. We would like to remind all Australians to not only reflect on the sacrifices made, but to offer support to all past and present defence personnel who may need it. #LestWeForget #Volunteers #ANZACDay

02.01.2022 Monday 18th to Sunday 24th May is National Volunteer Week, a time to recognise and pay tribute to the millions of Australians who donate their time to assist their communities each year. With the COVID-19 pandemic creating uncertainty over when life will resume as normal, the community are being encouraged to thank all emergency service volunteers during National Volunteer Week. This year's theme is "Changing Communities, Changing Lives". SES volunteers respond to floods, sto...rms, road crash rescues, searches for lost and missing persons and other activities, making them the most versatile of all emergency services. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week SES volunteers across Australia make themselves available to assist and protect others. So far this year the NSW SES has saved lives and protected communities during the floods and storms at the start of the year after standing side-by-side with our NSW RFS colleagues as they battled the bushfires for months beforehand. At the same time, our members were still going to car accidents to rescue trapped passengers, searching for missing people and providing advanced first aid. Even in the middle of a pandemic, our members are still out there helping their community. SES volunteers range in age from 16 to over 80 and can be involved in any activity from flood rescue to tarping roofs, clearing fallen trees, and engaging with communities about storm and flood safety. Volunteers provide an invaluable service to the community. They selflessly give up their own time to help people when they need assistance. So please spare a thought for all your local volunteers. #thankyouNSWSES
