18.01.2022 Warning to all agistment owners & horse buyers. UNCONFIRMED STRANGLES is in the area. We are posting this as we don’t want anyone to go through & experience wha...t we have had to over the last 2 days. I manage Ellett Park Agistment and we had a pony come onto the property for a short period of time & thanks to our strict quarantine guidelines for any new horse or pony coming on to our property, we were able to detect an issue within the first hour of it being here. we suspected it may have had strangles and contacted the owner straight away. We also contacted many vets and we were very lucky to have Station St Vets come out to do a swab. While waiting for the results the pony went back to where it came from (Koo Wee Rup as advised by vets and DPI). Ellett Park went into Voluntary lock down. We are following all bio security measures and have been using trigene to disinfect the property. We are urging all agistment owners and horse buyers to be wary of the risk and to follow strict guidelines and get vet checks. This Pony was purchased for a 2 year old girls birthday present only 3 days ago and unfortunately the sellers didn’t disclose that the pony was this ill and as the buyers weren’t aware of the symptoms of this illness she had the pony delivered to the property. The sellers unwillingly have since taken back possession of the pony and we want to STOP them from on selling this sick little mare to anyone else so PLEASE get a vet check on ALL horses or ponies you are looking at purchasing and Agistment owners PLEASE be wary and quarantine so we can contain any outbreak in the south east. I have since been contacted and informed these sellers are known in the area and have many different types for sale. This is just a warning and I hope you don’t get affected like us we are very lucky myself and Mike from MFC Equine monitor all new horses that come onto our property. We would like to thank our staff & agistee’s who have been amazing, we have all come together to work through this. See more

10.01.2022 IMPORTANT fire preparedness message for horse owners... You may have seen advice about writing your phone number on the horse's hoof.... This is the WRONG message to horse owners - this is NOT helpful to owners or to emergency services and the reason is that if a horse is spooked and covered in ash or has damaged hooves, you will not see the number. What is recommend is you use Grease Crayon or Livestock pen to write your number on the horse's BELLY. You would see this from a greater distance and it's much safer. Also... have you registered your animals with the National Equine Database (NED)? It is so important to register and pre-plan (including relocation) BEFORE an emergency occurs. You can register for FREE at www.tepscon.community CFA, EMV, and local Councils Nationwide have partnered this award-winning national initiative. Please tag all horse owners that you know #cfavic #vicfires Walking Forward Disaster Relief Team Inc.
