17.01.2022 One of the most unique event locations in Melbourne, the historic D-Division is being re-invigorated for a new audience and purpose. With a history spanning back to the 1850s, this venue exemplifies the craftmanship, authenticity, and individuality of Coburg Quarter. Anchoring our development, this space will be restored and re-imagined for both public and private events. Learn more about Coburg Quarter at http://www.coburgquarter.com.au/

12.01.2022 CREATIVES OF COBURG: For more than 20 years, hairdresser Meo El-Alo has made 40 Sydney Rd a local institution styling, dyeing, and cutting locks of Coburg’s finest. Since I’ve always been creative, transforming people through hairdressing just came naturally and it’s something I’ve loved doing ever since! Meo has learned the business from the great Alexan Habeshian a famous Armenian hairdresser in his native country of Syria. Meo Hairdressing opened its doors in Coburg in 1997, so this year marks its 20th anniversary. I love meeting new, interesting people and my favourite part is when a client leaves my salon with a smile of their face, happy with the work I’ve done. It’s a very gratifying job.

11.01.2022 From handcuffs to home-made delicacies, The Old Cop Shop is a place of incredible history and amazing food. Like much of Coburg, there is so much history ingrained in this place if only the walls could talk, said venue manager Bernard Bungaleea. Since opening in 2015, The Old Cop Shop has won the hearts of many foodies, serving up a menu of subtle Mediterranean influence, coupled with a modern Australian twist. The only item that never leaves our menu is our slow-cooked beef cheeks, regardless of the season. It’s always our most popular dish, Mr Bungaleea said.

10.01.2022 From humble beginnings working out of a space in the back of her father’s Coburg tailoring workshop, Effie Kats and her brand have exploded onto the international scene. Zachary The Label is commonly seen draping the likes of Gigi Hadid, the Jenner sisters and Kate Hudson, just to name a few. For Effie, Coburg isn’t only the place where she grew up, it’s where everything started and she has no plans to leave. You encounter so many people in the industry who are so pretentious and I think that Coburg kept me real, she says. People were telling me that we needed to be in a high traffic area like a shopping centre but I never really listened, for me Coburg will always be home.

08.01.2022 CREATIVES OF COBURG: From the colourful streets of southern Spain to the heritage bluestone laneways of Coburg, tattoo artist Alvaro Flores is attracting a cult following one that is more than willing to follow him to this pocket of the united north. I’ve always loved drawing and this became a natural extension of my art, Alvaro says. I’m originally from Jerez in the South of Spain and I travelled a lot meeting different tattoo artists, asking lots of questions and learning new techniques along the way. After working in different tattoo shops around Melbourne, Alvaro decided to open his own studio, La Flor Sagrada Tattoo, in Coburg earlier this year.

07.01.2022 Today, Future Estate hosted a group of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management students from La Trobe University on a site tour of the Ronald Bull mural concealed within the historical precinct of F Division, Pentridge. The painting was completed in 1962 and depicts a classic camp scene with three warriors congregated around a central fire.
