22.01.2022 If you have a few minutes, have a read. This is a lovely summary of the basis of many programs that we offer at Cocoon. Such an important foundation for our children’s interactions, experiences and wellbeing https://www.huffingtonpost.com.au//teach-kids-emotional-in

19.01.2022 They might be our ‘little’ ones, but they sure do experience ‘big’ emotions! Some great tips in this article. Tips we use a lot when discussing emotional awareness and regulation. Calming, connection, validation and reflection. We can be their emotion coach and teach them valuable skills for life ... https://www.firstfiveyears.org.au//teaching-under5s-about-

17.01.2022 In celebration of National Children’s week and keeping with the theme of friendships, we thought we’d ask some of our little super heroes what they think makes a good friend. Here are some of their pearls of wisdom: A good friend is someone who helps me, is kind and I can have fun with. Someone I can dig with.... Being nice and friendly. Playing good games and being fair. Friends should help each other when they get hurt. Kindness and happiness and being helpful. Playing and being kind. Someone who will share the purple paint with you. Someone who is kind and listens to you. At least one whole day of bonding and having fun and you become friends. Kindness and knowing lots about each other. Have fun. Help each other. Playing Mum’s and Dad’s, riding bikes together, using gentle hands, and helping each other feel brave. We couldn’t have summed friendship up better if we tried We’d love to hear what all the little people in your lives find important in friendship

16.01.2022 Well, hasn’t 2020 had its fair share of challenges? We’d also like to think that it has given many of us the opportunity to reflect, reprioritise and make changes for the better! 13.01.2022 Well we’ve had a very busy couple of weeks! We are now all settled in to our new and exciting home We hope those of you that have already visited us are enjoying it as much as we are It’s been so busy, that we haven’t yet had the chance to introduce you to our newest superstars - Meet Karli and Carly (yep, it’s confusing for us too!) ... Karli and Carly tick all the boxes when it comes to Allied Health Assistants! They bring extensive skills to our team; including many years in childcare, education, and business sectors, in community and youth program development, and the list goes on! Their organisational skills (and their muscles!) have helped us get up and running at our new premises in no time! The brain is such an amazing organ This is one of the reasons we love our early intervention work with children and families so much The brain is primed and ready, synapses are firing, and learning is rife! We love the message of encouraging breadth of skill development over depth too encourage your little ones interest in a wide range of areas to help them grow into well-rounded, creative, and adaptive individuals https://www.edutopia.org//why-ages-2-7-matter-so-much-brai

06.01.2022 Through understanding and validating each child’s individual sensory preferences and needs, we can then begin to work with children in supporting them to explore and expand their tolerance for sensory inputs in a safe manner and at a speed that is comfortable for them. Our ability to process sensory input is our foundational building block for all other areas of development. By validating and supporting our children to understand their sensory preferences, we are empowering them to better learn, grow, play, and function within their daily lives

We are always up for a challenge, and nothing beats the smile on a child’s face when they believe in themself an...d accomplish their goals OT week’s theme for this year is Supporting our Communities to Rebuild, Recover, and Reengage. This year has certainly provided many opportunities to develop resilience, to reconnect and to rebuild. The second celebration of the week fits perfectly with our Paediatric OT profile - it’s National Children’s Week! The theme this year is Children have the right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others. Building, making and maintaining friendships is a skill that we support many of our children to achieve here at Cocoon. So a fitting theme for a week of festivities
