19.01.2022 COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS - Due to the COVID restrictions we are unable to go out into our community. So the Christian Community School brought their lovely Kindergarten teachers to us! These visits allow us to build connections with our local community. The children heading off to school next year had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities for school readiness with a focus on Literacy, Numeracy and Language. We look forward to seeing the teachers for anot...her visit next week! Our Philosophy - Community - We promote community connections and aim to build the capacity of community members who are involved in the preschool. We participate in community events and welcome our families and broader community into our preschool. Community participation enriches the children’s learning, and fosters their sense of becoming citizens in the world. Mrs Johnstone

17.01.2022 WOW we have had a busy week! This week the children rolled up their sleeves and started tending to our vegetable garden by planting cucumber and bean seeds. We also transferred our sunflower seedlings out of their little pots and into the garden. Gardening provides the children with learning opportunities such as developing their growing appreciation for natural environments; participating with peers to contribute to group outcomes; develop responsibility; get out into the... sunshine, get dirty and have fun! This experience extends from our worm farm set-up last week and supports the connections between experiences, concepts and processes. At the art table, the children participated in string ‘worm’ art and box construction. The string art was inspired by our wriggly friends in the worm farm and provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop their fine motor skills and express their creative thinking skills and experimentation. The box construction was a great way to put into practice the concept of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ that we have been exploring in recent weeks and use our imaginations! We had dazzling unicorns, fierce dinosaurs, roaring rockets, snapping crocodiles and more! Miss Megan

16.01.2022 SAPPHIRE TWO DAY CLASS - Last week was National Science Week and the theme was Deep Blue: Innovations for the future of our oceans. We have been looking at sharks, so we have decided to look deeper into the deep blue sea. We have viewed a number of videos on You Tube. We have read books, non-fiction and fiction and We have brain stormed what we know about the deep blue sea. It’s amazing what we know. Evie and Lucy’s Nan and Poppy come in to do a bottle rocketship science ex...periment for the Sapphires! It was amazing, the children had so much fun trying to guess how high the different bottles would fly into the air. We welcome family members and community members to be an integral part of the learning program to foster a sense of belonging. OUTCOME 5: CHILDREN ARE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS. Children engage with a range of texts and gain meaning from these texts. Children use information and communication technologies to access information, investigate ideas and represent their thinking. Ms Alana

15.01.2022 NATIONAL CHILD PROTECTION WEEK September 6 - 12 Help children to identify trusted adults, both within the family and outside, they can talk to, if they are worried, upset, or don’t feel safe. Create a list together. Make sure the trusted adults know they are on your child’s list. Remind children that they can talk to you or a trusted adult about anything, no matter how big or small their worry might be. Talk to children about how they know when they feel safe or unsafe. Hel...p them to listen to their early warning signs, how their body feels, and to trust their feelings and instincts. Use everyday activities, such as preparing meals and snacks, going for walks, playing, shopping, as opportunities for conversations. If children are used to having lots of communication, it can make it easier to talk when big or tricky issues come up. Be open to talking about all kinds of feelings, including anger, joy, frustration, fear and anxiety. This helps children to develop a ‘feelings vocabulary’. Show children that you can respond sensitively to negative emotions as well as positive ones when they express their anger, embarrassment, sadness or fear. Don’t rush into problem-solving. Your child might just want you to listen, and to know that their feelings and point of view matter to someone. #playyourpart #ncpw See more

12.01.2022 EMERALD 3 Day Class - We love to get MESSY! Here are 5 reasons why sensory play is beneficial: 1. Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain’s pathways, which lead to the child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks.... 2. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction. 3. This type of play aids in developing and enhancing memory. 4. Sensory play is great for calming an anxious or frustrated child. 5.This helps children learn sensory attributes including hot, cold, hard, soft, wet, dry and many more! Most importantly SENSORY PLAY IS FUN! Mrs Johnstone

09.01.2022 SAPPHIRE 3 Day Class - Arrr me Hearties! What a swashbuckling week we have had. Over the last few weeks our learning has had an Under the Sea focus. This week we headed above water to find treasures all around. For our pirate party food we prepared weevil sandwiches (sunflower and sesame seeds toasted and tossed in soy sauce), treasure cup cakes marked with an X and chocolate gold coin pushed in and jelly sea with orange quarter pirate ships. ... We made a pirate themed obstacle course with pirate traps! We started by going through a tunnel, across a greasy pole, over the mountain, up the ladder, down the ladder, tip toe through the quicksand, climb into the pirate ship, fire cannon balls (bean bags) to sink the other boat and then raced along the plank to escape the sinking ship (hit by return cannon fire) and swim to the island for safety!!! We played, we sang and we had a jolly good time!!! Arrr Ms Alana

08.01.2022 EMERALD 3 DAY CLASS - REPTILES AT PRESCHOOL! Today Adam from Reptile World visited Preschool with some of his reptile friends! First we met Lukie the blue-tongue lizard. We learnt that lizards can smell with their tongues! Next was Marshall the bearded dragon. This lizard did feel spikey and looked like a little dinosaur. Lizards like to eat insects! Then Adam brought out Toby the tree snake! Toby wasn’t very big but, he had a body full of muscles for him to slither a...nd to grip on to tree branches. The children had the opportunity to feel Toby’s muscles as he wrapped his tail around their arms. Snakes have a prehensile tail which means they can use their tails to grip on to things when they are climbing! Toby’s body colours also made him camouflaged when he is in the trees and this keeps him safe from birds and other predators. Our next visitor was Chino the Black Headed Python. Chino was much bigger and heavier than Toby. Chino also had loads of muscles in his body to help him to move and climb. Adam reminded us that if we see a snake in our garden or when we are out and about we should never touch these snakes because these are wild snakes not pet snakes like Toby and Chino and we should always tell an adult so we can stay safe. Thank you Adam for visiting with your reptiles! Our Philosophy - Connection to Nature - We believe a sense of wonder, belonging to and love of nature and life is critical for young children to develop lifelong respectful, positive and proactive attitudes towards our environment and its inhabitants. Mrs Johnstone

05.01.2022 SAPPHIRE 2 Day Class - Wow what a week! Our Under the Sea dramatic play area is spectacular with starfish, an octopus, a shark and fish swimming around the coral. We continued on our learning journey about oceans with a special demonstration from Miss Kara in full scuba gear! We learnt that when you are scuba diving you breathe slowly to conserve oxygen. We learnt how to inflate/deflate the diving vest and we were amazed at how heavy the equipment is! Miss Kara went for a ...swim (in our) under the sea in the classroom! A BIG THANK YOU to Jetty Dive for supplying the Diving equipment. Miss Karen

04.01.2022 Emerald 3 Day Class - Our book this week was Where the Wild Things Are written by Author Maurice Sendak! This story is about a child called Max who falls asleep after he was sent to his room for being a wild thing! Max’s dreams take him to a faraway land where he meets some friendly wild things who love him so! This story was chosen to follow the interests of our children’s daily imaginative play that takes them to many wonderful places and on very interesting journeys. To... extend their creative play the children painted their own Wild Things with pastels and water colour and we made Wild Thing masks. Something strange happened when we put on our masks. Out in the garden we roared our terrible roars and gnashed our terrible teeth and rolled our terrible eyes and showed our terrible claws as we caused a wild rumpus! We were WILD THINGS! EYLF - Outcome 4 - Children are confident and involved learners. Children explore ideas and theories using imagination, creativity and play. Mrs Johnstone

01.01.2022 Sapphire 2 Day Class - The children are curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning as they use their play to investigate, imagine and explore their ideas. Educators provide opportunities and support for the children to engage in meaningful learning relationships. We provide sensory and exploratory experiences with natural and processed materials. Dramatic Play Space - We have been learning about sea creatures. The children were keen to turn the dramatic play sp...ace into an underwater world. We brainstormed what we could put up there and what we could make and do in this space as we got to work creating giant sea creatures! OUTCOME 4: CHILDREN ARE CONFIDENT AND INVOLVED LEARNERS. Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity Ms Alana
