19.01.2022 What is Aged Care Employee Day? ‘Aged Care Employee Day’ celebrates each and every team member involved in the journey of caring for people who receive aged car...e services from the nurses and care workers, to the allied health professionals, cooks and hospitality teams, to the drivers, cleaners and laundry employees, to the volunteers, to the leisure and lifestyle officers and administration teams. Through their work, these people often develop meaningful relationships with our older loved ones becoming defacto family members in the process. Aged Care Employees Day puts these everyday heroes in the spotlight, celebrates them, and highlights the many different roles of those involved in the aged care journey. To all aged care employees, we thank you and honour you on Aged Care Employees Day. This day is for you, to celebrate the incredible work you do, and to show you just how much you make a difference to the lives of older people.

16.01.2022 This week is Legacy Week. Legacy Australia is an amazing charity that cares for the families of veterans, who gave their life or health serving our country. Ear...lier this week I caught up with Jacky Gavin and Gwen Cherne, to talk about how Legacy has helped them and their young families. It’s been nearly 9 years since Jacky’s husband Lance Corporal Luke Gavin was killed on operations in Afghanistan and three years since Gwen’s husband Sergeant Peter Jon Cafe took his own life after returning from service. The courage and strength of these women and their families is truly inspirational. Father’s Day this Sunday is going to be particularly hard for them and their children, Joshua, Holly and Olivia and Thomas, Emily and Lachlan, but it’s a chance to honour Luke and Peter’s legacy. Due to #COVID19, Legacy’s Badge Day fundraising efforts have had to move online this year so you won’t see the usual badge sellers out and about. If you’re able to, please consider donating at www.legacyweek.com.au #LegacyWeek
15.01.2022 Dear Family and Friends, ** Update 25 June 2020 ** We have recently been directed from Chief Health Officer from NSW Health, that additional screening measures... have been implemented for all staff, visitors and trades who are entering the facility. The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) met on 21 June about the recent outbreaks of COVID-19 in Victoria. The Victorian Government has identified the local government (LGAs) areas of Hume, Casey, Brimbank, Moreland, Cardinia and Darebin as the current outbreaks of concern. These LGAs are all located in Melbourne. The AHPPC strongly discourages travel to and from these areas until control of community transmission has been achieved. Until further notice, Legacy on Victoria must ensure that any staff and visitors who have travelled to Melbourne, or have had contact with someone who has travelled to Melbourne in the previous 14 days, do not enter our aged care facility. On entering the facility, all visitors will have their temperature checked, and asked the below questions - In the last 14 days, have you: Travelled to Melbourne or been in contact with someone who has travelled to Melbourne? Been overseas or travelled on a cruise ship? Been in contact with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19? Are you in close contact with or caring for someone who is currently unwell? Have you currently or within the last 7 days been unwell or been aware of any of the following symptoms: fever, night sweats or chills cough runny nose sore or scratchy throat shortness of breath If a staff member or visitor answers ‘Yes’ to any of the above questions, or have recorded a temperature above 37.5C, unfortunately, they are unable to enter the facility. From 1 May 2020, you must have had your influenza vaccination to visit this facility. This is compulsory. We require evidence of your vaccination status. Unfortunately, if you have not had the vaccination, you are unable to enter the facility until you have received the vaccination. Legacy on Victoria would like to thank you for your assistance and support during this time. Shawn Bergquist CEO/DON
15.01.2022 The 15 August is Victory in the Pacific day, which marks 75 years since the Second World War was officially declared over after Japan’s acceptance of the demand for unconditional surrender. Although fighting in Europe had ended in May 1945, fighting continued in the Pacific until August that year, with Australians still involved. After the American dropping of two atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese ceased fighting and surrendered on 15 August. Thousands of service personnel were now able to return home to their families and surviving Prisoners of War repatriated. Today we remember around 1 million Australians who served and the almost 40,000 who died during WW2. Lest We Forget.
12.01.2022 The only place to buy a badge, pen or bear this year is at our Legacy shop in Scarba St or donate online. Thank you for supporting local families of those who served our country.
