25.01.2022 AN ULTIMATE HONOUR FOR BRIAN MARTIN (PLEASE READ, SHARE..... AND WRITE!) There has been much discussion in recent seasons about the extraordinary contributions made to local cricket by Brian Martin, and how Brian may be recognised. Brian is often referred to Mr Cricket across the Southern Highlands and is arguably without peer when it comes to local junior and senior cricket development over the past 25 years. A constant force and advocate for the game, Brian is well know...Continue reading

24.01.2022 Hello Blues members and friends, We hope you are well as can be at this highly unusual time. Following last weeks post, responses of support for Brian Martin (in regard to Centennial Oval being named in Brian's honour) have been incredible. ... So many clubs, administrators and individuals have provided written support, acknowledging Brian's contributions to cricket over 25 years, and backing the idea of there being a 'Brian Martin Oval'. As per the decision making process, every piece of correspondence counts, so please keep the letters and emails coming. You only need to write a few lines expressing that you support the proposal, or you can write in greater detail why you think Brian is worthy of this honour. Please address dated correspondence ‘To Whom It May Concern’, and email it to Michael Heinecke at [email protected] or Matt Watson at [email protected]. Please do this by COB Monday 13 April. If you need to check anything, call Mick or Matt on 0409 719 086 or 0417 691 884. Kind Regards, and take care of each other, The BBCC Committee.

24.01.2022 A picture tells a thousand words, or in this instance, maybe more than words could capture. The Southern Highlands community rallied for the oval at Centennial Park being named in honour of Brian Martin for good reason. ‘Marto’. Fervent. Forthright. Formidable. Boots ‘n all, stubborn to boot, tough as old boots (despite the propensity for thongs), but heart beneath it all. A colossus of local cricket who has dedicated 26 years to administration, coaching, mentoring, running ...clubs and charity work. The guy who spearheaded the rejuvenation of this derelict oval, transforming it into one of the best cricket grounds in the Highlands. The hours he’s spent here can’t be counted weeding, watering, repairing. The ’Brian Martin Oval’ suggestions had been around for a while but gathered momentum last year (although there was argument the oval should be named ‘Jurassic Park’ in reference to Brian’s age). The surge of support was swift but not surprising. Behind the wooden sign are so many pieces of correspondence, emails and postings of respect and reverence. Brian now has them all. Brian has respectfully declined any kind of fanfare to mark the oval naming and sign installation. Instead, he’s extended a heartfelt thank you to everyone who backed this - the clubs, teams, players, coaches, administrators, umpires, families, big-name legends and media figures. Although many want an occasion, we must respect Brian’s wishes. It took Draft Horses to get him here for this pic! Brian didn’t look for this accolade. It’s a case of the cricket community getting what it asked for and Brian getting what he deserved. Few of us will attain such an honour, but this ones on the board for Brian forever. In the end, just three words wrap it up ‘Brian Martin Oval’.

23.01.2022 THIS SUNDAY 30/08/2020 We will be having cricket training from 1pm Centennial oval. The weather is finally falling in our favour so we want to get ready for the only sport that matters! FOR JUNIORS... Feel free to come along at 1pm for a relaxed clinic of drills and small games. 22.01.2022 Another fine season approaches! All grades! The bowral blues finally began pre-season last weekend after the highlands were doused for several Sundays in a row in a sign from the heavens that we were still meant to be spending free weekends at the Scottish arms. An excellent session was had, with several new faces, and over 30 attending across all senior grades, and an encouraging number of keen juniors who can't wait for Summer!... The blues are on track to field a competitive side in all SENIOR and JUNIOR grades this season (have a sneak peak at our new one-day uniform!) We will be taking this weekend off to respect Father's day, and then will be training every Sunday from 1:00pm (juniors) and 2:00pm (seniors). All newcomers are welcome, whether they want to match it with the Highlands best in First grade, or they are new to the sport. Anyone wishing to register or give an expression of interest, please contact Michael Heinecke [email protected] 0409719086 or Brian Martin [email protected] 0419989905

22.01.2022 BRIAN MARTIN OVAL - IT'S OFFICIAL..... Bowral Blues Cricket Club wishes to thank so many people from across the district and beyond for supporting the 'Brian Martin Oval' naming proposal. The matter went to Council this afternoon and received a favorable vote, with plenty of commentary on how much Brian deserves this. ... All the clubs, schools, players, teams, coaches, umpires administrators and families who offered support can take a bow. It was your suggestions, encouragement and support that got it there. The big pile of written support and the extraordinary efforts people went to capture who Brian is and what he's done tells the story. It makes for incredible reading. Brian didn't ask for or influence this in any way and it's believed to be the first time he's actually sat quietly and said nothing upon request. We suspect it will be the last More to come on a sign unveiling ceremony or whatever.... we hope to get you all down to 'Brian Martin Oval' to mark the occasion... COVID-19 matters pending. Thank you again everyone. And Congratulations Brian.

13.01.2022 ROUND 6 MATCH REPORTS 2nd grade: The blues had the home ground advantage against Bundanoon, and were keen to defend our unbeaten run at Brian Martin Oval. After losing the toss and heading into the field some sharp bowling brought Bundanoon to 2/15. They consolidated to reach 55, before our bowling depth shone through, as Ryan Morton took 2/27 off 7, and Christian Molloy took 3/15 off 4 to leave Bundanoon stranded on 125 all out.... Our openers then set about burying any chance of defeat, with a solid 92 run partnership, with Michael Heinecke scoring 40. Another excellent result as the top of the table draws nearer. 3rd grade: BYE Stage 2 Juniors The youngest blues squad made it two in a row last weekend with a fine performance against local rivals The Bowral heat. Batting first, we amassed 91 runs, with 13 each to Fletcher Colgan, and Oliver Lach-Newinsky. Well done lads! When it came time to bowl, the blues rose to the challenge, with 5 different wicket takers! Notable figures went to Cameron Grace with 2/4 off 3, and James Moylan with 2/6 off 3.2 Another win in the bag, in style!

10.01.2022 ROUND 7 Match Reports 2nd Grade vs Mittagong CC With top spot on the table beckoning, the 2nds looked settled at Brian Martin Fortress. Losing another toss and being sent in to bowl, the blues were unfazed. Despite Mittagon getting off to a blazing start, they were reigned in quickly with good team bowling and fielding until they were 5/90 at drinks. Great work from Both Willebrands and Finn O'Connor taking 2 wickets apiece. We then dismantled the tail quickly after drinks as... Christian Molloy took a quick 2/7 to knock them over for 122 off 29.5 overs. With a small total to chase, we wasted no time, with Corey Fitzgerald (42 off 28) Hamilton Becher (34 off 43) and Hayden Willebrand (25 off 25) making sure we got back to the Scottish Arms before the Bistro opened. Another great game for the lads. 3rd Grade vs Bundanoon CC Our thirds took on Bundanoon in Bundanoon as they looked to continue their good run. Batting first, wickets fell quite steadily until Priyan Wikramanayake came to the crease, and steadied the ship with several solid partnerships. Bundanoon bowled well still, and he ran out of partners on 29. The blues had 115 off 34.5 overs. A determined start from our bowlers had Bundanoon on 2/0 thanks to Luke and Lachy. After getting Bundanoon down to 5/46, they steadied the ship with a 70 run partnership to close out the game. Well bolwed to Braydonw Squires with a well bowled wicket. Just a case of a game getting away. Stage 2 vs Mittagong CC The young Blues travelled to Eridge to take on the table-topping Mittagong side that has dominated all who have come against them so far this season. Determined not to be overwhelmed the Blues performed admirably, dismissing the entire Mittagong batting lineup for 192 off 23.5 overs. Wickets went to Lochlain Grant, Max Hassall, Cameron Grace, James Moylan and Nick Heinecke while Fletcher Holgan had impressive figures of 2/10 off 3 overs! Coming out to bat, the young lads did well, seeing out the overs but not having the firepower to chase down a large total. Finishing up on 4/109 off 25 overs. An impressive showing from our young team against their toughest opponent in the comp.

08.01.2022 ROUND 5 Match Reports 2nd Grade vs Hill Top Northern Villages CC The boys in blue travelled North to a damp Boronia Park in Round 5 to take on a new-look Hill Top side from previous years. Winning a rare toss, we decided to bat. After our top three fell cheaply young gun Hayden Willebrand and Corey Fitzgerald steadied the ship with a 55 run partnership, scoring 38 apiece. Solid hitting by Ryan Morton and Finn O'Connor late ensured we got to a defendable 145 all out. We took w...ickets regularly, with them spread all around, top figures going to Ryan Morton with 3/26. A solid win with HNVCC going down for 120. 3rd Grade vs Wingello Tigers CC Our thirds took on Wingello at Brian Martin Oval in another hotly fought contest. Batting first, wickets fell regularly, but captain Luke Morrison steadied the ship with a masterful 60 NO, well supported by young Alsitair Whatman who whacked 21. Blues finished at 7/143. A good all round performance with the ball. Binnsy cleaned up with 3, and well bowled to Pat Molloy and Ben Wawn, who tied things down through the middle of their innings. Wingello couldn't do much against the bowling, and finished their innings at 9/115, another win to 3rds! Another great week for the mighty blues, with wins all round. Big weeks ahead as we lead into Christmas. Lets keep getting to training on Thursdays, and down to the Scottish arms on Friday and Saturday afternoons to support the club!

The Blues batted first, and despite a strong 45 from Lachlan McCulloch, a steady flow of wickets restricted them to 108.... The Blues batted first, and despite a strong 45 from Lachlan McCulloch, a steady flow of wickets restricted them to 108.aching the total in 24.1 overs. A mighty improvement over last week, and turning it around slowly! Stage 2 vs Bowral CC (Heat) The young Blues hosted Bowral CC at Brian Martin Oval and defended the Fortress yet again. Batting first, the blues put on 98 off their 25 overs, with 22 to Nick Heinecke, and 13 to Eddie Andreas. Tight bowling was then the key, restricting Bowral CC to 89 off their overs. 2 wickets to both Eddie Andreas and Cameron Grace were the pick, but Jack Hagen, Oliver Lach-Newinsky and Nick Heinecke also bagged a wicket each. Let's keep the good games coming boys!

04.01.2022 ROUND 8 Match Reports 2nd Grade vs Wingello Tigers CC A chance to fend off second place gave some extra motivation last weekend, the 2nds travelled halfway to Melbourne, stopping at Bill O'Reilly Oval in Wingello. Winning the toss, they let the Tigers sit in the heat while we batted first. We started well, gettting to 1/80 in under 15 overs. After a uncharacteristic hiccup, the Blues found themselves at 7/112 off 26. Disciplined batting by young guns Christian Molloy (8), Tro...y Wills (9) and Dane Knowles saw Wingello stay in the heat for another 9 overs, and the Bleus reached 137, a defendable total. Wasting no time, the Blues strode out determined to regain the initiative. 4 overs later, Wingello were 4/11, with 2 wickets going to young Hayden Willebrand. in no time, Wingello were all out for 62, off 17 overs. An excellent 3/18 from Christian Molloy, while wickets went to Hayden Willebrand, Ryan Morton, and Finn O'Connor. Excellent work lads! 3rd Grade vs Hilltop Northern Villages CC Our thirds took on Hilltop NV CC at Boronia Park and thats where the good news ended. Excellent bowling from the northerners restricted 3rds to 56 off 31.1 overs. Sean McNeilage steadying the ship with 14. Luke Morison and David Binns took early wikets, but it wasnt enough, with the total being chased down in 10 overs. Better luck next week lads! Stage 2 vs Oxley Daredevils The young Blues hosted the Oxley daredevils at Brian Martin Oval and defended the Fortress well. Oxley were bowled out for 15 off 6.1 overs, with best figures going to Fletcher Colgan who took 2/1 off 1 over. Wickets went to Nick Heinecke, Oliver Lach-Newinsky, Max Hassal, Jack Gett and Xavier Wilshaw. There was little bowling to do...but Eddie got 7 before the total was caught. Let's keep the good games coming boys!

03.01.2022 Good afternoon cricket lovers! For Round 9 our 3rds take a trip to Brian Martin FORTRESS where they will take on the hapless Bowral Kookaburras and throw them to the bottom of the table. 2nds have the bye so they will be watching on with eskies and refreshments on hand.... For anyone super keen, the junior blues will be playing there in the morning, so come down and pay homage to our future superstars! As always, back to the Scottish Arms after the match for Man of the Match announcements

03.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS BRIAN MARTIN Bowral Blues Cricket Club and the Southern Highlands Cricket community extend heartfelt congratulations to Brian Martin, who was last night inducted as a Life Member of the Highlands District Cricket Association. Brian is only the 8th person in the history of the HDCA to achieve this honour, which was proposed by Bundanoon Cricket Club and endorsed by the entire cricketing community. The honour recognises Brian's 25 years of selfless dedication t...o local cricket, which includes just about every leadership and administration position and tireless commitment to coaching and charity work. Is it any wonder Brian is known as 'Mr Cricket?' NEXT UP, THE MATTER OF 'BRIAN MARTIN OVAL'.... the oval at Centennial Park that Brian delivered from dereliction, the place where Brian spends half his life volunteering his time to coach, tidy, water, weed and repair. Anyone taking this facility for granted should know it is what it is because of Brian's efforts. We thank so many clubs, players, coaches, umpires, families and individuals for their written support to have the oval named after Brian, including Chevalier College, Bundanoon Cricket Club, Gib Gate Primary School, Hill Top Northern Villages Cricket Club, Mittagong Cricket Club, Moss Vale Cricket Club, Oxley College, Robertson Burrawang Cricket Club, The Highlands over 50's and over 60's squads, Wingello Tigers Cricket Club, HDCA rep coaches, Cricket NSW, Lauren Cheatle, Dom O'Shannessy, Barry Knight, Doug Walters and too many more to mention here. The community has spoken. Let's hope Wingecarribee Shire Council is listening. There's more to come. We'll keep you posted.

03.01.2022 Bowral Blues Cricket Club is paying utmost condolences and respects to the Dummer family, following the tragic passing of young George Dummer in Sydney yesterday. George collapsed after some recreational swimming and could not be saved. Both George and older brother Charlie are former Blues players, and mum Jane, dad Murray and sister Sophia are well known given the family's history at the club. Our club and people across the community are thinking of you and behind you at this painful time, and of course reflecting on George - an incredible young man with such a rare personality, a lad who leaves the gift of wonderful and eternal memories for many. Rest in Peace George.
