23.01.2022 Walk around Julia Creek, on to Cloncurry, great town, glad we have the pool and air conditioning today though, even the locals are saying it is a bit warm.

22.01.2022 Well we finally tore ourselves away from the beautiful Wonga Beach this morning. Col even caught a feed of fish off the beach Monday morning. Had a short trip up the Daintree River on a crocodile spotting cruise, really good, felt bad because we got it so cheap and we were the only ones on the boat (capacity 25). Tried to find a nice pub for lunch and a couple of beers, no luck on a Monday unfortunately. Now in Cooktown for a while and preparing for our tenting adventure to Weipa and maybe the Cape.

22.01.2022 Car service Another waterfall Cassowary sighting Walk on Mission Beach ... The excellence just keeps coming.

19.01.2022 Interesting drive, some very bad corrugations, had to take it easy, glad we didn’t tow the van but plenty do. Archer river roadhouse was a good camp spot, lots of young families there, not many oldies like us. Tent didn’t fall down but air mattress lost some air overnight, take 2 tonight, hope it holds up. Camped for the next two nights beachfront in the only place in town.

18.01.2022 Bucket list tick for me, now for the trek home.

18.01.2022 Hope I have packed enough big girl pants!

12.01.2022 Col made dinner !!!,

12.01.2022 Day trip to Daintree and Cape Tribulation yesterday, short drive took most of the day through great scenery (for the passenger anyway), stunning beaches. Plan for a non car today, maybe a stroll along Wonga Beach.

11.01.2022 Sorry about this but it is a looooong story today. Cloncurry (the curry to us that have had a beer there) to Mt Isa, fairly uneventful, Mt Isa did not appeal though so after a quick stroll, back to the car and onward to Camooweal for last stop before leaving Queensland. Great decision, very small but reasonably quiet camp and good beer and food in the pub which only opens at 4pm (lucky we had some coldies in the van) Up and away through the border with minimal fuss because... as the young protective services officer said, we were very efficient. Cruising along at a reasonable highway speed then Clunk Clunk Clunk, hmmm , no warning lights flashing, find safe place to pull off the road to make sure everything OK. Nope, obviously something had happened as there was a light oily splatter on rear mud flaps and front and side of van. Hmmmm, no signal, listened for strange noises and smelt for hot smells, nothing. Decided only thing was to progress to the nearest roadhouse, about 80 km away. About 10km down the road Ding Ding, low fuel alarm comes on. Shit , must be losing fuel. but it didn’t smell or look like fuel, confident it is an oily substance, maybe transmission he says. Counted down the km until we got to Barkly Homestead, Phew made it, let’s see if the mechanic can help? No mechanic !! Closest one in Tennant Creek 200 odd km away AND it is Sunday !! Booked in to the caravan park out the back to plan what next. Col crawled under and reckoned he knows the issue ok pictures , Phoned mechanic in Tennant Creek sent pics, yep, had it serviced recently haven’t you yep well they haven’t tightened the filler cap on the transfer case and that has come out Yep. Phoned RAA, they were happy to send help tomorrow morning to get us on the road again. IN THE MEANTiME, have discovered the bar , saw storm coming Monday afternoon, headed in the downpour for a good viewing area and made some mates while watching the storm pass. Hoping to make up a bit of time, just did a quick visit to the Devils Marbles and thought the write up for the Wycliffe Well or Devils Marbles Holiday Park looked pretty amazing and they might even have SA beer. See for yourself in the photos, but THE worst camp ground, paid or unpaid. AND no SA beer. Another storm passed through so that was OK. Got away pretty early this morning and now in a bush caravan park at White Gums just outside Alice Springs. Stroll around Alice this afternoon was eye opening , sitting waiting for lunch and the lady sitting at the other end of the table had her handbag snatched , her hubby and another fella took off after the lad, got the bag back after a long chase. Not sure what the next couple of days will bring, planning will commence once beers in hand. (Yep a bit late for happy hour today) If you made it to the end of this post, Well Done you. !!!!!!! Xxx

11.01.2022 Malanda, Hard to capture the stunning scenery on our day trip yesterday, each waterfall had it’s beauty, the crater was very deep, Col had to take the photo as I got vertigo if I went near the edge. Saw plenty of platypus at the Platypus Farm and smokehouse (no they don’t smoke platypus, yes Col asked) going to be hard to leave the Tablelands tomorrow when we head for Innisfail, car service and another look at the coast.

11.01.2022 Just FYI, a bit warm in Richmond Qld today, started a walk got a bit hot, decided a couple of beers was a much better idea.

10.01.2022 Lake Hart Rest Area, glad now Glendambo was closed. Big drive today, no stopping Col when he is headed south.

08.01.2022 Interesting drive last couple of days, good stopover in Home Hill but many closed shops etc, more traffic than we prefer, a bit windy and some rain to make it more interesting (interpret Challenging for driver) Very wet in Airlie Beach today, lots of Curlews about the park, expecting a rude wake up at least twice during the night as they appear to be mating. Researching the adventure opportunities once the weather improves. Holiday extended to allow us to turn around soon and head back through NT rather than self iso from NSW. Still living the dream!!

08.01.2022 Luxury part of the trip over, enjoyed Airlie Beach but time to go back inland, overnight at free camp just before Charters Towers. Heading west (unless we change our minds in the morning) .

07.01.2022 A few pics of Cooktown where we are staying until Monday. Have had some interesting walks and drives around town, great Botanic Gardens (trees had signs which has been lacking) nearly walked to Finch Bay (got to 20 steps from the end and there was a track closed sign!) Cemetery was very interesting. Today was a day trip to Endeavour Falls, Quarantine Beach and early lunch stop at The Lions Den. It didn’t even seem too early at before noon to have a nice cold beer or two before lunch. Highly recommended. Suggested to Col he could have another couple of beers and I would drive back to Cooktown (a whole 27km) didn’t happen!! Housework tomorrow for me, I am sure Col will find lots of outside jobs to do!!

06.01.2022 Only one of us had this adventure this morning while the other one laid in bed Hopefully video in link. https://skydiveaustralia.shredvideo.com/f/XFHsTYs94H

04.01.2022 Having a late night, walked to the local bowls club, had a few drinks and a great feed, then a courtesy bus home, now just a skanky red before I go to bed. Needless to say Col already tucked up as soon as we got back here.

02.01.2022 Always adding to the adventure, more info tomorrow, loving the bit of rain on the roof to cool things down.

01.01.2022 Weipa trip report, Tent good really got efficient at putting up and packing up, Air mattress FAIL OK for a few hours then partly deflated by morning (destined for the bin), Location GREAT, Roads 50% great, 30% OK, 20% rough corrugations and dust holes, saw a couple of recent victims of Cape Carnage. ... BT50 1, Endangered Species 0, poor Bustard just couldn’t avoid him, Stupid thing just looked at us as kept slowly walking on to the road. Back in the Atherton Tablelands for a stock up, rest and more of a look around. Great donation camp at Rocky Creek War Memorial Site, yes there is wind, and dark clouds, I even have my cardigan on!! See more
