25.01.2022 Welcome to the term 2 Beginners class. The first lesson focussed on establishing you and your family members as your dogs pack leaders. 1. Mark your dogs correct responses with the yes response and a treat. 2. Focus. Hold the treat held between your eyes, wait for your dog to give you eye contact and instantly say look yes and give treat. 3. Tell your dog to sit yes and treat 4. Take your dog to the mat/bed. As soon as he is on the mat, yes reward.... The timing of the yes response must be instant and mark the dogs correct responses. Remember to practice these exercises several times every day and, most important, involve every member of your family.

21.01.2022 Quite a few brave souls attended Beginners class Tuesday night. This week we introduced drop and extended the distance the dogs could walk on the lead close to their owners. We introduced long leads to extend the distance for going to the mat, the stay and coming when called. To ensure the dog understands the look command requiring the dog to focus on the owner (pack leaders) eyes, we introduced a challenge. Owners hold a reward in each outstretched hand when the look command is given. To begin, most dogs looked at the hands but, using yes they quickly learnt to maintain eye focus. Next week is trick week. Classes are only cancelled on days of total fireban but give Lyn or I a ring if you are unable to attend.

13.01.2022 It was obvious all the Beginners had completed last weeks homework marking the word yes as all dogs reacted positively to the word. Well done. The most important exercise taught Tuesday was focus. Practice several times a day every day to get your dog to look at your eyes and acknowledge you as his pack leader. Take a piece of food to your eye, respond with yes the instant he looks at your eyes and reward. No need to use the word look yet, we will introduce this next w...eek. Also practice sit and mat/bed but, once again, use the food to lure your dog, yes and reward. We will introduce the verbal commands for these next week too. Remember, your dog must stay in position until you release him saying go OK or the command you and your family have chosen. Practice, practice, practice and teach your family the exercises too. See you Tuesday. See more
