The Peter Project is dedicated to Peter Dejong who attempted suicide 10 years ago in December. Peter was revived and spent the next year in hospital, where he turned 18. He then went into a young person’s home in a semi vegetative state, for the remainder of his life until he passed in 2014. Like all of family members, Peter was a very important part of the family and his family want to share his story and start the conversation of suicide. It’s ok to ask people for help or to listen, you are not alone and that’s what we want Peter’s legacy to be. The Peter Project was formed to open the important conversation on suicide and assist families. This year marks 10 years since they lost their family member Peter and they would like to save one family from the devastation of losing a precious loved one. Tomorrow, Saturday 6th October 2018, Emma Bon (Peters Mum), Sarah Bon (Peters Aunty) and Gareth Prior are walking from Bowen to Cairns to open an important conversation on Suicide Prevention and Mental Health. Along the Journey, we will be talking to schools about 'The Peter Project'. They will be joined at the commencement of the journey in Bowen, Whitsundays, Qld (the birthplace of The Peter Project) by many walkers and supporters, and will be walking to Cairns, Far North Qld (the final resting place of Peter).
