25.01.2022 We receive a lot of complaints from customers who were not aware they did not have Choice of Repairer as part of their policy. Having the PDS indicate you have a Choice of Repairer option does not guarantee your insurer will negotiate in good faith with your repairer. Suncorp / GIO assessors have been known to call for a second quote based on their recommended repairer works for $60.00 per hour. At least if you have paid for Choice you can argue you are entitled to that benefit. Please share with your contacts for their benefit.
25.01.2022 We were asked by the owner of this Jaguar to nominate a suitable repairer to carry out repairs to their vehicle. We had no hesitation in advising it had to be taken to a JLR approved Repairer. Replacement side panel assembly, outer wheel arch, inner centre pillar and turret. Not a weld to be found as it is all bonded and riveted. The sooner repairers and insurers understand that there are vehicle manufacturers who have developed procedures that demand OEM training and equip...ment, the consumer will benefit as long as they have Choice of Repairer as part of their policy. Want a recommendation on a suitable repairer for your damaged vehicle, contact me for assistance. See more
25.01.2022 The latest insurance data taken from the ICA website shows the impact of Covid, the data is for all of Australia.
25.01.2022 The NSW Government doesn't think there is a need to licence motor vehicle assessors, largely because other States do not require assessors to be licensed, have a good read of the attached. Although the case is from Victoria you would be naive to think the same corruption does not happen everywhere. If we had licensing and the proper resources of Government, the corrupt assessors could be removed from the industry. I have helped numerous customers who have been overcharged by ...an insurer, the worst being SMART Approver from Suncorp. Another reason why you would never trust your insurer or their appointed assessor, get a second opinion from someone independent. https://www.insurancenews.com.au//comminsure-assessor-accu
24.01.2022 The AMA Group were forced to put out a Media release following their CEO being interviewed by Alan Kohler. It has to be a worry when the CEO claimed the AMA Group were only getting 3 - 4 million per month from Jobkeeper when the number is 10 million! But we still have insurers lined up to support the repairer authorising $120.00 labour rates and turning a blind eye to the rectifications and buy-backs. What a pity Alan Kohler didn't ask about the rectification rate or Google reviews for Gemini and Capital Smart.
24.01.2022 AMA are looking for a new CEO after the current resigned. Does anyone believe the numbers put up on the AMA website?
24.01.2022 I thought the new AMA Group CEO said he was looking forward to continued growth & development. How does he explain the business operating at 82 Belmore Road Riverwood appears to be not renewing their lease? Are there any interested buyers? https://www.realcommercial.com.au/.../property-82-belmore...
23.01.2022 Another example why you need to shop around for the best insurance. This customer has held insurance cover for 38 years with NRMA and has 21 policies. The renewal for the Audi A4 increased from $1,145.10 to $1,224.37 - the sum insured had decreased from $50,000 down to $27,900. Don't rely on your insurer to look after you, they are looking after the shareholders before the policy holders. Loyalty is no longer being rewarded by insurers, you only need to shop around with a reputable insurer to find this out.
22.01.2022 A former client took my advice and shopped around for a policy that allowed her to choose the repairer and not be penalised for being a loyal NRMA customer. Instead of paying $972.72 with NRMA she has paid $494.53 with Seniors Insurance. Seniors Insurance do not charge an extra cost for Choice of repairer. Not a bad saving $566.19 on her renewal.
22.01.2022 We were contacted by a customer who were told to take their VE Calais to ARM Penrith for their 3 separate claims. Following the repairs the customer refused to take the vehicle due to the quality issues they could see. While it was being rectified the repairer damaged the left rear door which then had to be replaced. Today we had 3 IAG assessors present to go over the numerous quality issues. I was informed because the repairer is a fixed cost Partner Repairer an assessor doe...s not need to authorise repairs. They allow the repairer to cut any corner they want to because the price is right. The Lifetime Guarantee comes in handy on some occasions. If you have had your car repaired at a Fixed Cost Partner Repairer get a second opinion from someone independent on the quality of repairs. This is not the first complaint about this repairer https://www.facebook.com//nrmato-whom-it/1029295027163094/ See more
21.01.2022 Having access to technical information is one thing, following it seems to be the hard part.
21.01.2022 All modern cars are really just a computer on wheels
19.01.2022 We were asked to assist the owner of a $150K Chevy Silverado that had not received the due care and skill that it should have been afforded. The owner refused to take the vehicle back to Capital Smart Brookvale, instead he trusted the repairer who he had previously used and is also a Suncorp Recommended Repairer. We are still waiting for the insurer to pay for the rectification, another example of how Suncorp /AAMI treat their customers and Recommended Repairers. The owner has dumped the insurer and taken a policy that allows for Choice of repairer.
19.01.2022 We were asked to inspect a Nissan Navara for a AAMI insured in early May. The vehicle had 2 claims with damage on the drivers side. The repairer had quoted to paint the entire side to match the colour but something went wrong and the rear pillar never got painted, leaving a noticeable variation in colour among a number of faults. The vehicle went back for rectification on 16 June, the insured has received several messages indicating the vehicle is in either detailing or reassembly over the last 3 weeks. This is the company who want to carry out ADAS calibration, they can't even remember to spray stoneguard on the new front guard. It has been 49 days since he vehicle went back for rectification, I am looking forward to the second post repair inspection on this one.
18.01.2022 We obtained the latest data from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER). Perhaps if we want to see more apprentices take up Panelbeating and Spray Painting there needs to be a change to stop insurers from having anti competitive policies that stop consumers from choosing their own repairer. How else do you explain the large number of apprentice Motor Mechanics compared to Panel & Paint? Mechanical repairers don't have to deal with insurers telling them what to charge and what rate they can use. If the Federal Government want to increase employment and be less reliant on foreign workers, all they need to do is ban the anti competition practices that is hurting the smash repair industry.
17.01.2022 An article from the current edition of the NRMA Open Road. Does the CEO Mark Milliner actually think the current process requires customers to make multiple trips for quoting, assessing and repairing? Digital assessing has been around for 20 years and I would guess over 90% of assessments are carried out this way today. I wonder what Motorserve charge for a pre or post -repair scan?
13.01.2022 We were recently asked to assist a senior citizen in the local community, her premium from NRMA appeared to be excessive, especially when the policyholder has been with the insurer for 65 years with only 2 low cost claims made. If there was truth in advertising, they would list a Loyalty Tax on the renewal. Instead they claim The longer you stay with us and keep your eligible policies, the more you can save. We contacted NRMA to enquire why the price was so high given a co...mparable policy with Allianz would only cost $1,530.28. NRMA were not interested in keeping this policyholder due to her age making her a bad risk. Today the policy of 65 years was cancelled and a new policy was taken out with Allianz who don’t charge extra for Choice of Repairer. The price difference for our client was $1,461.73. Despite a Royal Commission into Financial Services making adverse findings about unacceptable behaviour, the message here is simple, there is no loyalty with insurance, consumers need to shop around for the best deal. If only the NSW Government would help build an online comparison tool to assist consumers wanting to compare Comprehensive insurance the same way they assist with CTP insurance. Please share with your friends, the elderly and vulnerable do not deserve to be exploited like this. See more
12.01.2022 Sometimes the difference between a proper repair and a insurer recommended repair can be significant. Is your car being repaired using manufacturer recommended procedures?
12.01.2022 The writing is on the wall!
11.01.2022 We were contacted by a consumer in July 2019 who had bought what he thought was a bargain collectable car for $50K. He relied on the RMS Authorised Inspection Station who provided the safety certificate for the vehicle that was arranged by the Used car Dealer. Unfortunately for the new owner the vehicle was unsafe and dangerous, RMS made 4 pages of defects and grounded the car from being driven on the road. NSW Fair Trading were unable to resolve the complaint, (great consume...r laws) and the client had to go legal. The Dealer bought the car back at a price below what he was paid. The vehicle is now being advertised for sale again only the sale price has increased $30K. Before you buy a car do yourself a favour and have it checked. We don't know what happened to the RMS Inspection Station who issued the blue slip, so much for the NSW Government naming and shaming to protect consumers. We look forward to the review of the Motor Dealers and Repairers Act to see if this type of behaviour will continue to be tolerated by the Government. See more
11.01.2022 Pleased to report the Member for Castle Hill, Ray Williams MP, supports one of my recommendations to the review of the Motor Dealers and Repairers Act. Assessor accountability through licensing.
10.01.2022 What will it cost to get a repair procedure?
09.01.2022 We are pleased to promote a book written by Dr Graham McDonagh that provides a view on what is wrong with the Automotive Insurance industry in Australia. The book provides guidance for consumers on the practices of insurers. We think every repairer should have a copy or two to help educate your customers. Congratulations to the author. Book price is $30 including post. Please email [email protected] or private message for your book/s and further Bank details
08.01.2022 QBE Insurance joins the list of insurers who charge extra for Choice of Repairer. The list of insurers charging extra for Choice now includes NRMA, Coles, Auto & General, Youi. Insurers who do not allow Choice at all include AAMI, Bingle, PD.
07.01.2022 We were contacted by the owner of a Hyundai Genesis that had a minor impact to the front repaired by ARM Wetherill Park. Another example of how consumers do not get indemnified when the repairer is on a fixed cost repair contract. Take a look at the quality of repair on the front bumper cover and the damaged parts that were not replaced. Why do insurers employ assessors? To protect the consumer from the greedy repairer who is only looking after one person.... Fortunately for our client we found a independent non aligned repairer who replaced all of the damaged parts with Genuine OEM parts and will be paid $4,500 for the rectification. Why is Choice of Repairer important? If you have had your car repaired, get a post repair inspection from someone who will look after you. See more
07.01.2022 Is this an indication the AMA Group is in a spot of bother?
07.01.2022 Well after waiting 50 days the customer received their Nissan Navara back. Take a good look at what passes as acceptable from the AMA Group. We are not sure if AAMI will insist on giving the repairer another chance or how they will go about resolving this complaint. Very sad that this is the quality that consumers are expected to accept. If you have had your car repaired recently, have it checked by an independent expert who is not working for the insurer.
06.01.2022 We were asked to assist a 2015 Isuzu MU-X customer recently who had found the front skirts had cracked due to a design fault. Isuzu have changed the construction of the skirt to include a reinforcement bracket. The procedure applies to both MU-X and D-MAX models. Isuzu supplied a 74 page replacement procedure that you could only wish all manufacturers would provide for welded panel replacement. This was not the subject of a recall from Isuzu.... If you own an Isuzu it is worth checking for the defect. See more
06.01.2022 Congratulations to the AAAA for this outcome. What would it take for the Federal Government to allow competition for Choice of Repairer?
04.01.2022 Consumers are entitled to good quality & safe repairs.
03.01.2022 We were asked to inspect a 2019 Honda CRV that had been repaired by ARM Wetherill Park. After they were provided with 4 opportunities to return the vehicle to pre-accident condition this is what we found. This is a good reminder that until a vehicle is dismantled any decision as to the quality of repairs is limited, trims and wheel arch liners cover repairs. The vehicle has now had rectification repairs authorised to a independent repairer, replacement of quarter panel and wh...eel arch, the expected cost of repairs is $15,000 plus the rental car cost. This is the quality that we have been seeing from the AMA group for the last 7 years, the self proclaimed leader of the autobody repair industry. Where is the Industry Regulator NSW Fair Trading to protect consumers? Why does IAG continue to have them as a Partner Repairer? If your car is being repaired, ask the repairer to send you images of the repairs being carried out. If you have had your car repaired recently, do yourself a favour and have it inspected by someone who is independent. See more
01.01.2022 The message is spot on. Consumers can have a say in who repairs their car, but only if their policy allows them to choose the repairer. Well done Minarelli Smash Repairs.
