03.01.2022 Adventures Around Tasmania Inspire Family Travel - Australia (2 adults, 2 daughters) Met Sharee, her partner and their two beautiful little girls. They w...ere first drawn to our beautiful Island State a few years ago and you guessed it, they loved it so much there was no choice but to come back. Our family first visited Tasmania a few years ago with our two young daughters when we embarked on a nine-night road trip up the east coast. To say that we were blown away was an understatement and if I have to describe our journey in one word it would be: spectacular! I honestly had no expectations of what we would discover in Tasmania, as not many people I knew had visited. Still, the allure was that we wanted to take a self-driving holiday that would offer family-friendly attractions, great food, and incredible scenery. Tasmania ended up having all of these qualities and more. On our road trip, we flew into Hobart and used Tasmanias capital city as our base for four nights. We could have easily stayed longer as not only does Hobart have fantastic things to do and see, but it is a great hub for visiting places around the area. I can never choose a favourite, but I always recommend a trip up to the summit of Mount Wellington, a wander through the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, and a visit to the Salamanca Markets for some souvenirs and local produce. Continuing up the east coast, we stopped at Bicheno for two-nights to explore the beautiful Freycinet National Park and the Bicheno area. With young children, we werent able to tackle some of the well-known walks, but we werent left disappointed. The great thing about Tasmania is there are plenty of short trails that cater to all fitness levels and abilities, such as the Cape Tourville Lighthouse walk. Our last leg of the trip, we took a detour and went to Binalong Bay in the Bay of Fires area, before we ventured onto Launceston for our last few nights before flying home. We never regretted the detour to Binalong Bay, as it gave us a taste of the area, and we now know it is somewhere we would like to explore further next time. When Im asked about Launceston, Cataract Gorge is one of the places at the top of my list to suggest, and if time permits a day trip to Beauty Point to visit the fascinating Seahorse World. Our expectations of Tasmania on our first trip were exceeded, and because of that, we returned on a couples-only trip last year for our 10th wedding anniversary. This time we were exploring the remote wild west side of Tasmania. I was blown away by the contrast from east to west, but it was no less impressive. I find myself drawn to places that are rich in natural beauty, and Tasmania has this in abundance. Our trip was a whirlwind five nights travelling from Launceston to Hobart, stopping at Cradle Mountain, Strahan, and Lake St Clair to explore Tasmanias treasure trove of natural sights and walking trails while learning of its fascinating history. Some of the highlights on this trip was hiking the incredible tracks around Cradle Mountain National Park, standing in front of the impressive Montezuma Falls, and cruising along the Gordon River. I feel that some places have that ability to get under your skin, and for us that is Tasmania.
