25.01.2022 Watch the world spin! This is a new star-stacked edit from some of my older footage. Shot near Maddens Falls down in the Dharwal National Park last year, this new composite version of this image is made from 175 still frames, each shot 1 minute apart, at f4 with a 20 second exposure time, at ISO 3200. The field of view has been obtained from a 17mm focal length (cos I know you just had to know). The stacked image was made in the wonderfully simple yet effective StarStax software.

24.01.2022 Forty-nine years ago yesterday a couple of humans first walked around on that setting moon. Its lit up here by a bit of earth-shine, seen at dusk from a very terrestrial place. . #nightscape #moonscape #earthshine... . 22.01.2022 Coming in to land. An intergalactic Boeing slides beneath the Milky Way, Sydney bound, racing towards the bright, orange glow of the coastal eastern suburbs. Shot under a clear, dark sky, 9:02pm, last Thursday night. . #starScape #nightScape... #nightScaper #astroPhotography #newMoon #milkyWay #theMilkyWay #milkyWayChaser #cloudlessNight . 22.01.2022 The bloody shadow of sunrise upon the eclipsing moon. Too many clouds; blink and you'll miss it. I went back to bed. Hashtag EpicFail (Watch the hands of the clock turn)... Turn on HD mode for better res.

18.01.2022 Tonight another new moon graces us with its absolute darkness. This image was shot under a similar sky a couple of months ago, red head-torch aglow on the path before me. . #nightscape #nightscaper #newMoon... #milkyWay . Photography by @theGuthrieProject See more

15.01.2022 Bangkok Thailand: where the stars in the sky are hard to find, but the cars are impossible to miss. These images were all shot from the windows of our apartment the night before last. #TidaTours

14.01.2022 This world might spin with grace and consistency, but planes coming in to land bring nothing but chaos. An inevitability when shooting so close to a major international airport in the early evening. . #starScape #nightScape #nightScaper... #starTrails #starStax #newMoon #milkyWay #theMilkyWay #milkyWayChaser #cloudlessNight . 12.01.2022 Last night on the remnant Cronulla dune, where the last grains of sand have become a rare commodity, I stopped and stared up at a brightly rising Mars. Plenty of sand up there for us to mine. Just gotta get it back here somehow. Maybe we could put some of it back here, where the Cronulla dunes once gracefully stood and watched over these glorious, burning stars. . #nightscape #nightscaper #marsRising... #milkyWay #theMilkyWay #LonelyCronullaDune #sandMine #starMine . 11.01.2022 On a clearer night than this... Mars rising brightly over the Tasman Sea beneath the fire of the #milkyWay; an idle photographer watches on. . #notQuiteSolstice #starscape #nightscape... #nightscaper #marsRising #theMilkyWay . Photography by @theGuthrieProject See more

10.01.2022 Did you know that Mars is at Opposition tonight? Looking out my window at all these heaving clouds and soggy raindrops its hard to tell, yet its true. But what does opposition mean? Simply put, Mars is closer to us right now than it has been since 2003 and it wont be this close again for another fifteen years. If the skies are clear, go outside and have a look later tonight; it should be looking big and bright and red. For those of you stuck indoors under rainy skies, yo...u can catch a little glimpse of the red planet just above the horizon in this picture taken two weeks ago (and even more clearly in my previous post). PS: that bright blob in the top left of this pic is Jupiter, and Saturn is also reflecting brightly in the lower area of the Milky Way. . #MarsOpposition #Mars #Saturn #Jupiter #starscape #nightscape #nightscaper #marsRising #milkyWay #theMilkyWay . 08.01.2022 Mars and the Milky Way, with a bit of air-glow on the horizon. At the risk of being repetitive, this was the last frame in the sequence shown in my previous two posts. By this stage the airplanes had quietened, the night had darkened, Mars was heading higher in the sky and the Milky Way was spinning out of view from my cameras little cave. . #starScape #nightScape #nightScaper... #astroPhotography #newMoon #milkyWay #theMilkyWay #milkyWayChaser #cloudlessNight . 06.01.2022 An ol favourite . . . The Road Outta Gunnedah. A single exposure, shot back in August of 2015, just west of the NSW country town of Gunnedah. This image was one of many captured that night on winding dirt roads, under a brightly glowing Milky Way, with a pop of gelled flash hitting the foreground. For the technically minded this was a 30 second exposure, at f2.8, ISO 3200, on a 35mm DSLR with a 14mm prime lens, with only minor tweaks to levels, exposure, shadows & highligh...ts in Adobe Camera Raw in PhotoShop. 04.01.2022 Under the darkness of last nights new moon, a cloudless mid-winter sky, I sat and watched the stars burn. 02.01.2022 Two and half hours of a whirling world in winter, squished into twelve seconds. Each frame in this timelapse sequence formed the stacked star-trail in my previous post.

02.01.2022 Old photos, in a new context. Check out this new Guthrie Project initiative called The Colour of Night devoted exclusively to NightScape photography. Therell be newer work coming soon, but this might interest some in the interim: http://theColourOfNight.com.au/
