24.01.2022 Has any one noticed that where a pronoun is needed, more and more often the female is used, eg an article about ORSC, "Human beings are complex, and a single person is a system unto herself,..." Some years ago I put forward the idea inventing a new system to get away from the male dominated him and he etc and that was He/she = se; him/her= hem. I had a group of these described. Equally I do not like the him/her alternative, which should go first? I do believe that part of breaking the male dominance is language BUT I do not think that is replacing he with her. #language #misogyny #sixism #leadership #harassment

22.01.2022 I wonder how many employees will thank their employer on return to work Tuesday for the gift of payment for the holiday. The employer looses the productivity & the pay. OK thats a cost to business but still a cost in tough times. Hopefully employees will at least appreciate that; be good to tell the boss, thanks.

19.01.2022 Stop fees for businesses ordered to close. Obviously payroll tax, licensing fees & cost associated with running a business must stop as of March 2020 where businesses have been instructed in law to close. That must be announced immediately! The law changed, there is no business to tax. Tell them quickly, relieve the pain!

19.01.2022 "Workers happier on home duties". This was always going to be a challenge, getting a right balance, people back to work places allowing for sharing, learning, identifying, being with others. Hearing converstions, asking questions, helping each other, preparing for succession, career development & much more. Somewhere clients can come & have a reasonable expectation of finding someone. One of the factors about being home (& ther are plenty of confronting factors) is being... away from lots of poor behaviour, from all around at all levels. To make the away from the home work place attractive, it is time to address those behaviours; not good enough to just allow, to say "we have tried everything but they really arent that bad", " they have a lot of redeeming attributes". Duty of care is real if not, not enough to make many managers take appropriaten action. Now is the time to find remedies that make the workplace an attractive place to be and then probably there is a balance that can be struck. Why not start with a survey to demonstrate to your team that you know there are some bumps at work and that these will be taken care of. How about, lets look together at how we can all learn from what happened approach? Who told the Prime Minister to sneak out to Hawaii when the land was burning? Time & time again, immature advice. 18.01.2022 Destined for War, Can America and the China escape the ‘Thucydides’ trap*? Graham Allison. An informative and chilling read, somewhat summarised as early as page 24/364 in China is sucking the Southeast Asian countries into their economic system because of the vast market and growing purchasing power. Japan and South Korea will inevitably be sucked in as well stop. It just absorbs countries without having to use force.. China’s growing economic sway will be very difficult to fight, or in the Chinese version of the golden rule: he who has the gold, rules. Whilst Australia wasn’t mentioned, it is clear we are experiencing that not just right now but have for some time! *‘Thucydides’ - an apparent tendency towards war when an emerging power threatens to displace an existing great power as the international hegemon.
18.01.2022 Intelligent disobedience (ID)- what is the hint to you and your team when ID is an opportunity? When you hear words like, NO, Cant, BUT - these are stop words and very often come when someone is talking outside the established paradigms. Said often enough the initiative and gut can be stamped out and in place, group think and pre-emptive think will grow. Thats not where to be in 2020, certainly not this 2020 with the new challenges being thrown at us each day, in fact each hour!

14.01.2022 Minneapolis! Who is kidding who! World wide there is still deep rooted divisions & its time those of us with white skin really adjusted our thinking. Im saying our; I think I am not prejudice; I think I do not have to try not to be because I have no personal sense of it. The officer and his onlookers arent necessarily evil although their act obviously is! The inbuilt need to be acceptable in our group, drives personal ability to resist evil behaviour in case the tid...e turns back against us to allow behaviours we would otherwise find repugnant. Never an excuse but the fear of personal reprisal is real! Any of those looking on at that time could have interceded or, if their knee had been on that neck, could have killed this person AND all will gather behind each other and result in stupid comments such as weve decided to focus on the individual NOT on the group who stood by! What will you need in food of course but also nurture, books or balsa wood. What will keep you interested, allow others with you to have my time as well as together time. Make sure everyone can see their day & night as a plan; dont get caught wanting on day 2! 11.01.2022 What a shame the gross police act in Minneapolis USA results in gross acts of looting and civil disobedience! Shows up an underlying tension and lack of self recognition. If these black Americans ever want to be given more position it will be when the tackle these gross acts less emotionally. The act itself; unforgivable. Smoothing it over; despicable if not evil. But still, look to fix this shocking white group attitude - take it to them, dont depreciate yourselves with actions as like now.
11.01.2022 Right now it seems to me, SA could be on the edge of an incredible push forward if only we can develop more leadership behaviours and more robust thinking. The Associaiton of Strategic Planning Austrlia was launched last week and that could be, if it gets enough oxygen, a useful platform. The people of the associaiton do have to have energy and dynamics about thinking and leadership and implementaiton of strategies to make it worthwhile - not just another group / talkfest; I ...think they just might have! 10.01.2022 I am afraid that too often the impact of violence in the home and bullying in the workplace is such that the receiver looses their capacity to counter that behaviour, is disempowered. This feeling of powerlessness is further exacerbated by general community and womens groups where so much attention is focused on the perpetrator. There are strategies where the victim can have more influence but first the external focus of the problem has to change from the perpetrator to the... victims own responsibility and that that is actually a conversation. 04.01.2022 Im not sure where this came from but it is worth reading right through - a great road map to a calm and respectful life. A life where the doer will receive bountiful rewards; will benefit fromThe Law of Reciprocity and it basically says that when someone does something nice for you, you will have a deep-rooted psychological urge to do something nice in return. This concept is, good neighbour, great family person, and serious Leadership pathway.

Now is the time for managers to become leaders; only most of them dont know what the difference is; or if they did, what to do to make the shift! It is of paramount importance. People leave the workplace daily, devalued - rebounding impacts on family & self. The problems within the disability sector - the Ann Ma...rie Smith tragedy WOULD have never happened if Leaders were leading, managers were not just making the $$ work. Workplace accidents happen because people become disconnected and MUCH of that is about bullying environments. I am a liberal voter, but this is a non-partisan emergency and the government need to think more widely that just throwing money around. Cause and effect says that unless we tackle the leadership void, then NDIS will continue to be stressed as will the workers & recipients and funds. In SA we even knocked down a bulding because of bad behaviour / outcomes then transfered the people to a new one - same workers and people new building. Who is kiddig who. 02.01.2022 Excite your groups thinking! Get away from NO, CANT, BUT etc and old paradigms. Intelligent Disobedience! (ID) ID is actually a new approach to problem solving and decision making. Given that our established paradigms run our lives, the paradigms of our thinking formalised in policies and procedures that ensure our paradigms are safely locked in, that everyone one knows this is what and how we think. That we will think within and through that, locking those ideas outside, ou...t! The opportunity then is in making thinking outside safe to do; in fact making it unsafe to only consider thoughts inside. I have used Edward deBono thinking such as the Six Thinking Hats to do this successfully in the past. The application of various hats outside those being accessed by individuals, even requiring identification of solutions that come from different hats to demonstrate to people that there are different ways to solve a specific problem, open a new opportunity. Another deBono saying is always look for three answers, dont be satisfied with one or two - in my experience the big answers are outside the paradigm, outside the competition.
