21.01.2022 One of the things about living on the Mornington Peninsula is the beach and how close we are to it! But this can also cause bad corrosion in the door locks we use daily. With the recent rain we’ve been having it’s also starting to was some of that salt water and air into our door locks. If you’ve noticed your lock is starting to become a bit stiff to get your key into or it’s really hard to turn there could be more of a problem going on and requires more than some lubrication. These pictures show the front and back of an old vs new lock cylinder showing how bad it can get without your knowledge. 17.01.2022 This is what you get when you call a $45 dodgy locksmith bait n switch. No ABN, no company details, no insurance, no care, no warranty, and above all bad penmanship!!! Seems like anyone can turn up at a customers property and pretend to be a locksmith. Would you let a random untrained or vetted person look after your personal belonging and valuables? What are your thoughts. By the way this is just one of many many customers being ripped off.

17.01.2022 When you walk up to a house and see this you wonder who it was that installed the #hardware and #locks. This front entry door has 2 lock installed upside down, a privacy set installed where an entrance set should be and the security door is too narrow for the door jamb. The deadlock on the other side of the door is the cheapest thing you could find that’s not up to the challenge. I was only allowed to rekey the #deadlock and couldn’t do any upgrades or repairs. I felt really bad not being able to ensure they were properly secure at this #property.

15.01.2022 On my way to a customers flat in Glen Huntly today when I came across a dodgy person trying to break into a ground floor flat! I asked him do you have a problem? In a very loud and stern voice to which he looked at me and decided he needed to leave quickly!! The people from the flat were actually home at the time and came out about a second later. The woman was there obviously upset and the guy was beside himself! They were grateful that I stopped this scumbag from breaking... in and reported it to the police. This was in broad daylight in a very open area visible from the street. He knew the weak spots to break into the window which tells me it’s not the first time he has done this. He didn’t run away, just calmly walked off. It’s blown my mind how readily these criminals just try and try until they get in. No-one is safe. Check your doors and windows today to see if anything is not right and get it fixed ASAP! I can’t stress enough how easily this scumbag would have gotten in if I wasn’t there to put him off. I wish I’d taken a picture but didn’t get a chance to get my phone out! See more

09.01.2022 For the lay person this appears to be a normal front entry door with some normal hardware installed but to a trained locksmith it’s not. I can see 3 obvious problems that will result in problems that you don’t want! 1) the security door lock is installed upside down or the door was fitted upside down. The occupant has to lift the handle upwards to be able open this door. It’s also a very bad quality of lock that is known to fail and lock you inside or out even when it’s inst...alled correctly. 2) the lock fitted above the handle on the main wooden door has also been installed upside down. This lock also appears to be a very cheap brand purchased from a 2 dollar shop which means that the quality of the internal parts where your key goes into are poor and will cause the key to be very sticky and hard to turn possibly failing locking you out. Its also made from a low quality material lock body and screws that fix it to the door so if a thief was to force the door by kicking or a crowbar attack it will fail to hold the door shut. 3) the door handle on the wooden door is a privacy set that is normally installed on a toilet or wet area door that allows for anyone with a coin or flat bladed screwdriver to open it. I’ve seen this kind of security in many doors over my 30 years as a locksmith in the Melbourne area and it still makes me shake my head as to why you wouldn’t engage a professional locksmith to secure your property, valuables and nowadays your life. These locks can be replaced correctly with far better quality options that will give you security and peace of mind for the future. Please have a qualified locksmith attend your home or workspace to provide some advice on protecting what you love today as the cost is far less than what you really could lose being the sense of security when a stranger enters your private space and does whatever they do! 09.01.2022 Hi Kingston residents, Whilst you are all doing the right thing and staying home, please be aware there are others who are not! Between 2-6 April, we have had ...80+ reports of items stolen from motor vehicles. Suburbs targeted were Mentone, Parkdale, Mordialloc, Aspendale and Chelsea Heights. Most of these thefts occurred in victims' driveways on vehicles that weren't locked. Please be vigilant over the long weekend and keep an eye out for yourselves and your neighbours. If you see anything suspicious, call Triple Zero 000 immediately.

06.01.2022 Fitted another 001 Touch digital deadlock. I do find these to be a far superior lock than most you find in hardware stores. Keyless outside and the ability to deadlock it when your away. I don’t know if any other that can offer this option. With the reliability of an Australian product designed for us here in Aus. Never get locked out again!! @ Mentone, Victoria, Australia

06.01.2022 Working on the Mornington Peninsula has its perks. Secured one of these beach boxes recently with 2 of Lockwoods best 355 Deadlocks. I have removed and replaced these before and they hold up in the extreme weather and the salt water spray from the bay very well. I’d expect 10 years from these in these conditions no problems. No way you could get a cheap lock to go the distance here!
