25.01.2022 Dear families, This is a reminder that our last operational day for the year will be Monday 23rd December 2019. We will be closed for 2 weeks and will reopen on Monday 6th January 2020. We hope you all have a great time during the Xmas break and we will see you all back in the New Year. ... MERRY XMAS & a HAPPY NEW YEAR From all of us @ Columbus! :)

24.01.2022 This morning, we noticed that our veggie patch was flourishing. We saw that there were baby carrots, turnips and leafy greens had grown quite a bit. We picked them out carefully and decided to make a delicious and healthy salad using these fresh ingredients from our garden. We all ensured we washed our hands well with soap before we began to prepare those vegetables. We cut them up nicely and tossed in some salt, pepper, vinegar and olive oil and we all got to taste that yummy salad. As a follow up, we learnt about the fresh produce that we have in Australia, things that we are growing in our gardens and what our favourite fruits and vegetables are :)

24.01.2022 Hi all, We have not been very active lately but we are back to share some fun activities that the children have been engaging in lately. Today the children made natural coloured playdough and decided to experiment with other material which were of a similar colour. We took this opportunity to incorporate their interest of literacy through by activity. Children used the literacy stones which had letters of the alphabet on them, along with some paddle pop sticks. They showed a particular interest in the paddle pop sticks as they began making birthday cakes for each along while stating their ages. Through this experience they showcased their understanding of letters, numbers while counting and lots of creativity.

24.01.2022 Why not bring in the outdoors on a hot and smoky day like this? We engaged in lots of different table activities which encouraged the children to use their creativity and imagination. One of the most popular activities was our frozen creature cups. Yesterday, children were given the opportunity to choose which animals they wanted in their frozen cups. We froze them overnight in small cups and children engaged in a challenge of deconstructing the ice and get the animals that were in them. Other popular activities included working together as a team to build the tallest castle, balancing the see saw with weighted bean bags involving numeracy, replicating Lego education creations from flashcards and sorting shapes

22.01.2022 Today was a very exciting day for the preschoolers. For those who are going to school next year, we planned an excursion to walk to the new Kings Park in Denistone East which was approximately a 15-20 minutes walk. We took longer as children were very excited and distracted. We were being sun smart as we put sunscreen and also our hats throughout the excursion. Everyone had a super healthy lunch box packed with delicious goodies and of course we carried our water bottles to ...stay hydrated. We all had a partner to hold hands and walk together. We walked along the footpath and crossed many driveways including a traffic light. There were lots of pretty flowers on the way. We saw some homes being built half way through and also an excavator. We were also very excited to see some cute Santa figurines in a garden on our way to the park. At the park we had yummy packed lunch and also had a play on all the fun equipment there. We took lots of photos from start to finish and that is what we would like to share with all of you

22.01.2022 Christmas is our favourite time of the year and it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas lately!! We have been learning different Christmas songs and have also been practicing for our Christmas concert. Children have been engaging in lots of different Christmas activities which include writing letters to Santa with pretty colourful drawings, rice and shaving foam sensory activity with Christmas colours, sensory Christmas play box with Christmas trees, snow and Christmas ...scenes. Children also wanted to set up the room to make it festive so we recycled cardboard boxes by painting and decorating them to make them into a Christmas tree. We also recycled tin boxes and wrapped them up to put them near our tree as presents for all the children. We have set up a little corner where we are also filling up Santa's sleigh with the presents we have all wrapped collectively so that it is easy for Santa to deliver all the presents on Christmas eve See more

22.01.2022 Dear families, We hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. We have been back in operation since Monday and we welcome all our new and continuing families who are part of our Columbus family. ... We would like to share our excitement of our revamped backyard with a few changes. We have a cool blue water pump that uses recycled water which flows into a new river stream created. The boat from the river is also stand alone and children can move around in it in the backyard. Children have been very excited since being introduced to the new features in our backyard and we have loved seen their happy faces every time they make their way downstairs for outdoor play :)

20.01.2022 As the days seem to be getting hotter, its perfect for some water play so that the children can cool down. Children have been engaging in water play during their outdoor time. They have been bringing in their swimmers, being sun safe with their hats and sunscreen on and lots of water splashing from the fountain and the water pump. The teachers have also been having lots of fun along with the children

20.01.2022 HO HO HO! We had a great time at our Christmas party yesterday afternoon. Lots of family members joined us to celebrate Columbus's first Christmas celebration. All the children did a great job singing and dancing to songs after practicing everyday since the past few weeks. There were lots of nibbles for everyone and Santa came to town with his little Elf to give each child a bag full of presents and to take pictures with them. We also had a nail art and face paint station for the children. Thank you all for your presence, presents and encouragement yesterday as well as throughout the year. We have had a great year and we look forward to having a bigger and better celebration every year. We wish you all a very Merry Xmas and Happy New Year :)

19.01.2022 With the bush fires that affected our country lately, children have been showing great interested in different emergency services including the fire brigade and how they help us stay safe. To make it a fun and realistic experience, we requested our local Eastwood fire station for a fire brigade to visit our centre for an incursion. Children were thrilled to see fire fighters in their uniforms as they demonstrated what fire fighters do and how the children can keep themselves safe. All the children also got to see the fire truck and learn about the different sized water hoses used to put off fires. Children got to hold the hose and turn it on to put out imaginary fires. They also got to hop in the fire truck and see all the interesting equipment used by the fire fighters. lastly, we learnt that for any emergency, call 000.

12.01.2022 Today was another great day of taking another lot of the preschoolers to Kings Park playground. As we already walked back and fourth yesterday, everyone was much more quicker and attentive so that they could get more time to play there. The weather today was also much more favourable for the walk and play time there. Everyone had a big healthy lunch packed from home and had lots of water to stay hydrated. Everyone used their great listening skills to follow their teachers instructions and walked safely buddying up with their respected partners. Here are some photos from today that we would like to share

11.01.2022 To have some fun during these school holidays, we celebrated crazy hair day yesterday by wearing craziest hair to daycare. We had lots of fun with colored hair sprays, braids, hair ties, pipe cleaners and other accessories which showcased children's enthusiasm for some fun and creativity

10.01.2022 This week we had the opportunity to celebrate Halloween on Tuesday and Thursday. The children were all dressed up to go for a Trick or Treat excursion to townhouses next door and the cafe across the road. Our lovely neighbour was very kind enough to invite us to her home and gave us lots of chocolates, lollies and other goodies. The cafe owner was also wonderful and had all the children sitting at tables in a room that we had all to ourselves and thats where children munched on gummies and lollies. We also thank our lovely parents who joined us in volunteering for the excursion. The response was great and we felt safe and loved :)

09.01.2022 It was a fun messy day today! The children had been showing keen interest in primary and secondary colours as the topic was initiated by one of the children who was doing roller painting and saw two colours mixing together creating a totally different colour. We decided to extend on this interest through a drop paint experience using colours of wood. Children used droppers exercising their pencil grip and experimented with the primary colours which created secondary colours when they mixed up in the same section of the page. One of them said, "This looks like a flower" as she continued using the droppers to create a pattern and mix the colours.

08.01.2022 Happy Australia Day everyone! We celebrated Australia Day this afternoon during afternoon tea with some sausage sizzle on some bread with tomato sauce just how we like our favourite sausage sizzle at Bunnings Our preschoolers used their self-help skills by serving themselves and making it into a sausage and bread roll. To add to the celebration, we cooled down with some water play pretending to be at the beach in our fun boat that we pretended to sail in the sea. Just what we love to do on Australia Day at the beach with sand and water

03.01.2022 We had a colourful day today with colour related activities. Following up on childrens interest in colours last week, we created a different play experience from the rainbow table to the playdough table by making different coloured playdough. We used our fine motor skills and created different shapes and objects by mixing the different coloured playdough that created a beautiful marble effect. We also used play objects which had different gel colours and saw the colours mix together which created secondary colours.
