13.01.2022 Today we observe National Sorry Day. A day to remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who were forcibly remov...ed from their families. We also acknowledge the ongoing work of organisations such as Healing Foundation to address the ongoing trauma in our communities from the forced removal of children from their families. https://bit.ly/SorryDay2020 If there was one issue high on the agenda at the Sydney Harbour Bridge walk for reconciliation in 2000, it was an apology to the Stolen Generations. It was also high in the sky, when a group of people - independent to the organisation of the walk - had the word Sorry written in the clear blue skies above the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Such was the intensity of feeling and support for Stolen Generations members many of whom were amongst the huge crowd that day. Today, twenty-three years after the Bringing Them Home report and twelve years since the National Apology, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are still 10.6 times more likely than non-Indigenous children to be removed from their families. We cannot begin to fix the problems of the present without accepting the truth of our history. Sorry Day asks us to acknowledge the Stolen Generations, and in doing so, reminds us that historical injustice is still an ongoing source of intergenerational trauma for Aboriginal and Torres Islander families, communities, and peoples. Learn more this Sorry Day, at: Healing Foundation: https://bit.ly/LearnMoreHealingFoundation SNAICC-National Voice for our Children: https://bit.ly/LearnMoreSNAICC #NRW2020 #InThisTogether2020 #NationalSorryDay #SorryDay

13.01.2022 To enable Australia to become a reconciled nation, individuals, organisations, and communities will need to come together. To be a part of reconciling Australia, we need to learn and understand not only our history but the culture of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders. Have a look at the website below to find a range of books that are thought-provoking, heart-warming, and created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors. The more we know, the more we can connect. #InThisTogether2020 #NRW2020

12.01.2022 Even though today is the last day of the National Reconciliation Week, it is not the conclusion of a reconciled Australia. There is still work to be done to build and maintain a stronger connection between all Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. In the past week, weve shared a range of posts highlighting different Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events, stories and media, in the hope to inspire our community to contribute to a reconciled Australia. To find ways to get involved and help Australia reach a reconciliation, explore: http://www.reconciliationvic.org.au/act/how-to-take-action

12.01.2022 20 years ago, around 250,000 Australians walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, in a call for Australia to Reconcile. The Peoples Walk for Reconciliation sparked inspiration around the whole country, where individuals came together and walked over bridges to support the movement of Native Title rights. This was one of Australias largest ever display of public support for a single purpose. Reconciliation is important because the more harmonised we all are, the stronger o...ur relationships can be between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous individuals. All Indigenous Australians should have the same opportunities and choices as any other Australian and not be discriminated against because of their race or culture. This week is National Reconciliation Week, a time for Australians to explore and share the histories, cultures, and achievements and help to support the movement of reconciliation in Australia. #NRW2020 #InThisTogether2020
