23.01.2022 'TABLET OF TESTIMONY': Psalms or the Tehillim comprises 150 pieces of praise, worship and thanksgiving to God. The book traces the journey of the Israelites as they again re enter the Promised Land and return to the holy city of Jerusalem. Psalm 19 is a psalm of David. In it David acknowledges the glory that is in the heavens and he attributes that to God. He concludes the passage by saying, "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." (v14) Our Lord delights in getting the glory for His majestic works. So, like David, I encourage you to let your words and your thoughts be pleasing and acceptable to the Lord your Redeemer too. 19.01.2022 'TABLET OF TESTIMONY': The book of Matthew tells the good news that the long awaited Messiah has come to save both Jews and Gentiles. Matthew was one of Jesus Christ's 12 disciples and he uses his Gospel to show that Jesus is the Messiah of the Old Testament that is spoken of. In Chapters 5-7 we read of Christ's teaching on the Sermon on the Mount. Chapter 5 covers a multitude of things including The Beatitudes, Salt and Light, Murder, Adultery, Divorce, Oaths, Love for enemi...es and an eye for an eye. This particular passage, verses 38-42 reads, "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the One who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." The key here is humility and trust in God. By embracing a humble attitude when you are wronged by another, or taken advantage of, you will effectively trigger the other parties conscience regarding their own behavior. By trusting completely in the Lord for your vindication from Him, you become selfless, just as Christ is, which again is a wonderful witness to others. Be humble therefore and have faith in God, in all circumstances, just as Christ was humble. In being so, you may win some over for Christ and you also leave room for Christ's justice to be executed in your circumstances, instead of you fighting for your own honor. Ps Tracey-Lee Cane (TLC)

16.01.2022 'TABLET OF TESTIMONY': The prophet Joel was the son of Pethuel. Joel saw a severe locusts plague that hit Palestine and interpreted the event as a sign for the final judgement. Subsequently, he warned the people to turn to God in repentance. Joel announced that the "day of the Lord" was coming and would bring even greater judgement. Chapter 2 speaks of the warnings and of God's promise. After sharing his vision of the locusts, Joel advises everyone of the Lord's Word to rend ...their heart to Him. To return to the Lord who is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. He advises the people to declare a holy fast and a sacred assembly. Joel tells everyone to consecrate themselves to the Lord. He says and implies further that if they do these things, "Then the Lord will be jealous for His land and take pity on His people." (v18) and in verse 21, "Be not afraid, O Land; be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things." A list of things the Lord has done then follows. The list speaks of abundance, plenty, repayment, assurance and deliverance from all shame. Mighty is the God of Israel and He still does great things today. Ps Tracey-Lee Cane (TLC)

15.01.2022 'TABLET OF TESTIMONY': Romans is a letter written by Paul to the church in Rome as he was finishing his third missionary journey. Paul hoped to visit Rome and Spain and so he wrote this letter in preparation for his visit. The theme of the letter is righteousness. Paul teaches that no human being is righteous, Jesus Christ is perfectly righteous, if we have faith in Jesus we are freed from the power of sin, given a new life and returned to a right relationship with God. He al...so teaches that we should live Christian lives that are "holy and pleasing to God." In Chapter 8 Paul shares about life through the Spirit (Holy Spirit). He goes on to say that if we are children of Christ we will share in His sufferings, so that we can also share in His glory. "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us" says Paul. (8:18) The mark of a true disciple is suffering. Jesus suffered and was taken in glory, so when we suffer, we also share in Christ's suffering and indeed in His glory too. Ps Tracey-Lee Cane (TLC)

12.01.2022 'TABLET OF TESTIMONY': The book of James is probably the earliest of the New Testament letters, and was written in about A.D. 48. The letter was written by the brother of Jesus and was addressed to Christians everywhere. James wrote this letter to teach Christians the practice of Christianity. He highlights that if you have real faith, you show it by acting like a Christian. James gives practical advice on many topics. In Chapter 4 James speaks of the need to submit yourself ...to God before sharing on boasting about tomorrow. He says, "Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins." (v13-17) This passage highlights the importance of the sovereignty of God. Ultimately it is He that is in control and not us, so His plans will not be thwarted by man. Therefore we are encouraged not to boast in our own plans. For whether you believe it or not, your best made plans can amount to naught if the Lord has a different agenda for you. With that in mind, I also encourage you to say, "If it is the Lord's will..I will do .." for as we have seen in recent times, your own plans can be changed in an instant. Always be humble enough to allow God room for His plan to manifest in your life. If that is different than your own He will use it for your good. Ps Tracey-Lee Cane (TLC)

07.01.2022 'TABLET OF TESTIMONY': Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings and sound advice for daily living. Many of the proverbs come from King Solomon and others were copied by Hezekiah's men. Agur and Lemuel also wrote a couple of chapters. The short sayings cover a range of topics, and today's speaks of the fear of the Lord: "All the days of the oppressed are wretched but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.... Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil." It is hard for those who suffer at the hands of others, but do not allow them to rob you of your joy because that comes from the Lord, not them. You should continue to uphold God first in your life, regardless of the suffering you find yourself under and place your trust in Him regardless. Jesus provided a wonderful example for us in doing that. He often suffered but continued to be about His Fathers business regardless, knowing He had all the riches of heaven at His disposal. He was at peace amongst turmoil just as you can be when you choose to humbly fear the Lord regardless of your own circumstances in suffering. When you allow your peace and joy to come from Him your heart will be cheerful regardless. You are an overcomer! Ps Tracey-Lee Cane (TLC)
