17.01.2022 Today marks 150 years since The Royal Children’s Hospital first opened its doors.... HAPPY 150th BIRTHDAY @rchmelbourne The RCH has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the world’s great paediatric hospitals, caring for millions of children, and their families ... Through her work at The Royal Children’s hospital, @drbelindawelsh had the privilege of meeting and treating the bravest of little boys, Hugo! Hugo’s journey at RCH began at 5 weeks of age, when he travelled all the way from South Australia, to undergo treatment at the Laser Unit Working alongside Dr. Philip Bekhor @aprofphilipbekhor from @lasersermatology and Director of the RCH Laser Unit, @drbelindawelsh feels extremely proud to have contributed to the great care @rchmelbourne has delivered to children and young people As a practice, we are proud to have our very own Dr. Belinda Welsh, Dr. Ryan Toholka and Dr. Patrick Mahar be part of the RCH community Congratulations @rchmelbourne on this magnificent milestone! #HappyBirthdayRCH #rchmelbourneturns150 #brave #RoyalChildrensHospital #RCHMelbourne See more

15.01.2022 REPOST from @drbelindawelsh This is an acne sinus tract. This young man had a subtype of acne called; Acne Conglobata ... In this type of severe acne, big nodules and painful cysts develop which can drain pus. Sinus tracks can form, which are long tunnelling wounds under the surface of the skin It is more common in males, particularly in early adult hood and adolescence Hormones, especially testosterone, may be a prominent trigger. We also understand that the body can become hyper sensitive to acne bacteria on the skin, which in turn causes excessive inflammation Bodybuilders who take anabolic steroids can especially be at risk of developing this Other underlying factors may be polycystic ovary syndrome in women or very rarely tumours that produce androgen hormones. This type of acne may also have a genetic component as it can run in families This acne had to be treated over numerous years with intermittent drainage of the cysts and nodules, antibiotics, isotretinoin, oral prednisolone, and cortisone injections into the cysts and this sinus tract Thankfully, we finally have his acne under good control. Although he does have some scarring this sinus tract healed remarkably well Take-home message is ACNE SHOULD BE TREATED SERIOUSLY! Early Intervention by a dermatologist is important if it’s not responding to simple topical creams and antibiotics Apart from the psychological impact, long term scarring can be devastating and difficult to treat. #acnescars #acnetreatment #severeacne #acneconglobata #acnespecialist See more

14.01.2022 In the 1980’s, Australians everywhere were introduced to Slip, Slop, Slap! The campaign played a key role in creating a societal change amongst the attitudes and behaviours around sun protection. ... Whilst a lot has changed since the good old ‘80s (probably some things, for the better *cough* fluoro activewear! *cough*), one thing that hasn’t, and is still as important than ever, is protecting Australians from skin cancer This week is National Skin Cancer Action Week! The message may have been slightly updated; - SLIP on a shirt - SLOP on some sunscreen - SLAP on a hat - SEEK some shade - SLIDE on some sunglasses But it is still the same sun! Sun protection is the best defence against skin cancer! #nationalskincanceractionweek #slipslopslap #slipslopslapseekslide #cancercouncilaustralia #sunprotection #stillthesamesun #skincancer See more

12.01.2022 Broken capillaries and redness A COMMON SIGN OF SUN DAMAGE AND AGEING ... The sundamagesthe fine capillaries under the surface of the skin These vessels are ordinarily not visible with the naked eye but the sun andageing process can cause them to be dilate, resulting in visiblecapillaries and facialredness These features give the appearance of much older skin Luckily, this is usually easy to treat Treatment involves a vascular laser or IPL This is a very effective option for dilated capillaries and redness #vbeam #vascularlaser #IPL #brokencapillaries #sundamage See more

11.01.2022 In the wake of Covid-19, adapting to continuous changes and managing priorities, sadly our little garden bed at the entry of our cosmetic building has fallen victim of neglect Although in time, we came to realise we seem to have a garden fairy! Our garden fairy had been watering and tending to our plants and flowers early in the morning and had even replanted where those existing could not be salvaged ... We have since discovered our garden fairy is a lovely local community member named Jenny! Unfortunately we do not know much about Jenny, other than that she has ever so kindly been tending to our garden since Covid-19 hit as she has been working from home. We would love the opportunity to express our appreciation to Jenny properly. So if you are Jenny, or know her, we ask that she please get in touch with us, so we are able to show our gratitude! #itaintalldoomandgloom #Covid19 #localhero #gardenfairy #legend

10.01.2022 MEET THE MASTERS Our very own Dr. Cara McDonald was honoured to be involved in the launch of the @allerganaestheticsanz @allergan_medical_institute MASTERS education program earlier this year ... The AMI Masters is for injectors wanting to take their injecting to the next level It offers scientific knowledge, collaboration and peer learning Cara loves that it looks at injecting as a whole, rather than just focusing on the quick fix. In Cara’s words; In my years of educating injectors, I commonly see the focus being on technique, although the consultation process is often neglected The best results can only be achieved by really understanding your patient as well as the anatomy and the ageing process. Thanks to Aesthetic Medical Practitioner for featuring me, amongst my esteemed colleagues @shapeclinic.au and @stefaniaroberts We cannot wait to get back to face-to-face, hands-on training but in the meantime @allerganaestheticsanz are offering online / webinar solutions so.... #neverstoplearning #ami #allergan #aestheticmedicalpractitioner #specialistinjector See more
