24.01.2022 We have three trainees and and an apprentice on the go at the moment and they are all polite, responsive, and reliable. They all require a lot of supervision but there is no reason they wont be productive members of society in a couple of years. Also a client taking the opportunity to move away from the traditional carrier, reduce costs by 40%, and embrace the NBN. They left us for four years and regretted everyday. 22.01.2022 Comtel have been utilising solar solutions at communications sites since 82, and while we dont do domestic or commercial off-grid solutions, we do a lot of 12v/48v projects. In this instance we had to de-comission the old hardware and install 500kg of new batteries and 2 x 300w panels in a remote location with about 5 days notice. It was a success; "Thank you for being accommodating of our requests, and able to assist us with such a large task at reasonably short notice. ...Please pass on my gratitude to your staff." The biggest drama is rock-paper-scissors to see which technicians get to ride in the helicopter.

Last week we sent three of our newer staff for instructor led training to safely work at heights, which is something they will do a lot of in this career path. Well done Thomas, Jordan, and Luke.

14.01.2022 Last week we started having our technical staff working from home. It isnt the cost of the laptop, mobile phone, or headset, but the $60k for the test equipment they need. This is an older Vicom, being used by one of our 3rd year apprentices, to setup a Simoco VHF with audio recording functionality for emergency services incident response. Looks like he has set-up on his parents dining room table so well see how impressed mum is with that over the next few weeks. #simoco #marantz

08.01.2022 We were able to arrange training for volunteer Air Force Cadets in Toowoomba. Our Radio Service Manager is a Flying Officer in 210 Squadron, in his spare time, and is able to leverage our commercial relationships to improve the knowledge ans skills of his cadets. Well done Michael.

02.01.2022 Over the last few months, you will not be surprised to read that we have been setting up a lot of remote workers, and as much as there is a financial cost to business to set this up, at exactly the time when revenue is being impacted, it needs to be done properly. Use a full featured soft-client, not a cheap featureless base version or your mobile as a dumb terminal, and use a proper headset, not the 3.5mm one that came with your last mobile phone purchase. A reputable brand ...like EPOS|Sennheiser USB or Bluetooth will give you these types of characteristics; 1. wideband audio, so you hear and sound better. 2. incoming alert control, so the device speakers ring on incoming but use headset audio during call. 3. noise cancelling. We know there are different noises at home than in the office including children, partners, pets and outdoor intrusions, but as a professional you need to deal with that. See more

01.01.2022 Recent Project: Queensland Police Service upgrade cabling at 171 sites. We hold Krone cabling design certification with our trade certified cablers having individual certification which allows us to offer 25 year warranties on our installations. We have calibrated fibre and copper testers and certifiers so the end result is exact for our clients. Recently we have been repairing a lot of work undertaken by cabling organisations because it just doesnt work properly which corrupts data, slows traffic, and causes failures. Attached is a project we undertook recently for the Queensland Police Service upgrading the interview rooms data infrastructure at 171 sites state-wide; on time and on budget. #krone #structuredcabling
