Joy started playing the mandolin at age nine. By age 11, she was playing on radio, winning numerous talent contests.... In 1943 she formed a friendship and musical partnership with Yvonne Christie at the Harry Mawsons Hawaiian Academy and they played mandolin together for many years, later forming the Paisley Duo with a successful residency on 3UZ Are you an artist, also playing together at weddings and dances. Joy played for Margot Fonteyn at the Sydney Opera House, recorded a CD and played with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra, Camerata and Concordia Mandolin and Guitar Ensemble.
