24.01.2022 Good rain falls in Lachlan Shire. Up to 66mm of rain has fallen North West of Condobolin heralding a positive start to the year. Although summer rain can be a problem as it germinates unwanted weeds it has topped up water storage and replentished sub soil moisture which will help as the year moves forward. Tractors and spray riggs are ramping up and spirits are lifted as famers see that it can keep raining.

23.01.2022 LEVEL 2 WATER RESTRICTIONS CONDOBOLIN Existing water restrictions in Condobolin will be increased from Level 1 to Level 2 effective 9.00am Tuesday 15 December 2020 for all residents connected to the Condobolin town water supply. The reason for the increased water restrictions in Condobolin is because of the aging infrastructure and the Condobolin Water Treatment Plant’s limited ability to produce enough clean water to meet the town demand during hot weather. A volume of at le...ast 70% needs to be maintained in the town reservoirs to produce adequate water pressure throughout the town network and provide a buffer to the town in the event of a system failure or black out. Despite a number of alterations at the Water Treatment Plant, the recent hot weather event paired with the malfunction of the radio telecommunication system tested the plant and the reservoir level dropped below 50% capacity. It took a cool change in the weather and running the plant 24 hours a day for over 4 days for the reservoir level to be restored. Based on the recent experience, Council resolved to introduce Level 2 water restrictions which is anticipated to reduce the demand on the water treatment plant and will mean that the plant is better able to maintain adequate water to the Condobolin residents. Under Level 2 water restrictions, watering of gardens every second day under the odds and evens system will come into force. During daylight savings time, watering times are now in the mornings at 6am 9am and in the evenings at 6pm 9pm. 20.01.2022 CATTLE AND SHEEP MARKET REPORT KMWL Forbes agents yarded 758 good quality cattle in a market that was unchanged to cheaper.Prime yearling steers and heifers sold up to 10c a kilo cheaper and feeder steers slipped 10c and feeder heifers were as much as 17c cheaper. The heavy steers and heifers held firm and cow prices were unchanged compared to last week’s sale. Forbes agents yarded a total of 9825 sheep and lambs which included 7637 lambs, most of which were shorn young la...mbs and a few unshorn lambs. The quality of the shorn lambs was good and competition was strong and they sold at fully firm to slightly dearer rates. The unshorn lots mostly went to re-stockers and prices were unchanged compared to last week’s sale. Hoggets also met with good competition and the few merino lambs were firm for the prime lots. Shorn lambs were making 750/830c a kilo and averaged 780c. There were 2188 grown sheep penned and light/medium grades were $4 to $6 dearer and heavy sheep sold at fully firm rates compared to last week’s sale. See more

18.01.2022 SHEARING AT BURRAWANG These are old pictures of the shearing at Burrawang station, which was established in the late 1800s between the towns of Forbes and Condobolin. Some say it was the largest shearing shed in the world, a post on the Lost Narrandera Facebook Page said 14 February 2021). 11.01.2022 THEFT OF WHEAT AT CONDOBOLIN Condobolin Police are investigating the theft of around 37 tonnes of wheat grain from a silo on a property on the Gleninga Road, Condobolin. The owner believes the theft occurred sometime on the 22 November this year and the amount stolen would have required an articulated vehicle to be utilised by those responsible.
