23.01.2022 A pre-school in Victoria has sent a lot of love to a lady who lives alone with her Siamese cat . The pre-school sent a letter, 7 beautiful drawings, 2 creative pieces of art and their community recipe for brownies. I expect she will be surprised and feel quite special that a group of little pre-schoolers wrote to her!

23.01.2022 This is a special letter. A final message written with speed to make it to its recipient The pen pals enjoyed about 5 letters, and then we received word that the recipient, an 82 year old man, had been moved into palliative care. The writer sent this last message. I think it’s perfect.... Do you think small acts of kindness like this can change someone’s day, life, the world? #theletterboxproject #connected_au #palliativecare #palliativecareaustralia #letters #writing #isolation #loneliness #love #connection #australia

21.01.2022 Look at this handmade activity booklet The amazing writer has printed, cut, glued, and stapled this all together for a resident in a nursing home. Just so much effort ... Great start to Friday

21.01.2022 Some nice feedback for our Friday It’s fantastic to hear how one letter can make such a big impact. Just a little bit of time. Things are still growing rapidly here as usual. ... We have an exciting exhibit being built about our project at Old Parlinent House Museum in Canberra, have some media projects with Medibank planned, and some great national organisations getting their staff involved as volunteers. Exhausting stuff. But for now, we are going to take the weekend to enjoy some tech free time (maybe write a letter or two!)

19.01.2022 This local mother is inspiring, her video really highlights the challenges faced by children and adults with disabilities. Did you know? around 5,600 people with disabilities under 65 are in permanent residential aged care... around 9.6% of people with disabilities over 16 have experienced discrimination in the last year. Every week 5 Australians sustain a spinal injury Every week 10 15 Australians sustain a severe brain injury Every 13 hrs, a child is born with cerebral palsy Approximately 1 in 1,100 babies are born each year with Down Syndrome Every 2 hrs, a child is diagnosed with an intellectual disability One in six Australians are affected by hearing loss

18.01.2022 This letter is on its way to an art and animal lover! Sweet and simple. So much effort. #theletterboxproject #connected_au #community #agedcare #disability #isolation #lonliness #melbourne #lockdown #art #animallover #artistsoninstagram #lettering

17.01.2022 This might not look as beautiful as some of our other letters highlighted here, but it is AMAZING This letter is to a nursing home resident who likes to keep her mind active, and loves music. As well as being a thoughtful, considered letter, it included a quiz! Talk about fun!... Also included is a USB with recordings of the families children playing songs for her on the piano. What an effort. I don’t think I need to say much more. #theletterboxproject

16.01.2022 Remember Mitchell? Well here he is after receiving a beautiful letter and gift from an incredibly generous person. Dylan @dylangarft contacted us and offered to send Mitchell this Thor hammer, signed by the mighty Thor @chrishemsworth himself. Dylan said he organised the hammer for something else but he immediately wanted to send it to Mitchell.... Dylan is the owner of @sippinstant in Byron Bay and as well as this gift and letter he sent the parents some coffee for their long road ahead. We had no part in this, the credit is all Dylan’s. He is one of those great human beings. I know where I will be getting my coffee whenever I’m in Byron @sippinstant We also have a few more lovely letters organised and on their way to Mitchell.

16.01.2022 With a title like that I think we will need to try this recipe! How exciting for the recipient to get this letter, a little pack of seeds and try the best choc chip recipe of all time Recipes can be so treasured, does anyone have a recipe they treasure? We would love to hear why!... #cooking #recipes #theletterboxproject #connected_au #community #isolation #loneliness #volunteer #letterwriting

15.01.2022 An article today by our local newspaper Daily Liberal It was an absolute pleasure chatting with journalist Daniel Shirkie. The article is beautifully written and perfectly highlights the progress of the project, and the goals for the project moving forward.

14.01.2022 You are 9 and I am 90 Fantastic to see responses like this flying all over country. Anyone can write! Some great organisations getting their staff involved over the last two months in their in-house volunteering programs @medibank @expedia @discovery @twitter @vmware @dell... Small acts can make big impacts, this letter is a great example

13.01.2022 A nice article by the Journal of Dementia Care for our Friday https://journalofdementiacare.com/the-letterbox-project-cr/

13.01.2022 I am constantly astounded by the amazing people writing letters in this project. The writer of this letter is a Melbourne doctor in a Covid clinic Already on the front line, already making extraordinary sacrifices and huge impacts in the community, and yet somehow has enough in his cup to write a letter to someone in a nursing home. And include a crossword book and fresh envelope and stamp ... That’s the best example of ‘giving’ I have seen all week #theletterboxproject #connected_au #melbourne #lockdown #doctor #doctorsofinstagram #medicine #givingback #volunteer #isolation #loneliness #agedcareaustralia #disability

12.01.2022 A recent article by National Seniors Australia. Very humbling to see the comments by National Seniors General Manager Chris Grice. https://nationalseniors.com.au//COVID-19-how-the-letterbox

12.01.2022 Mitchell is said to love the Transformers movies and also Marvel characters. I want to send him pure joy. What are some ideas? All welcome! ... a beautiful sketch of a transformer? or a sketch of aqua man? a marvel story ending re-written with Mitchell as the hero? his own personalised marvel comic? a poem about Mitchell being a hero himself, with courage and bravery? a letter written from the mighty Thor @chrishemsworth Does any know him or his beautiful wife?!!!!!! This growing community of writers are phenomenal, so much light in these dark times. I’ve been in awe of the positivity and generosity of all involved so I am sure we will come up with some great ideas

12.01.2022 Our feature in the NSW Department of Primary Industries Country Web Annual Magazine. There are some phenomenal women and projects featured so it is very humbling. This week was also a first for podcast interviews, chatting with the wonderful @skyemanson nerve wracking but lots of fun! As usual lots of letters being . I think it hit a high of 670 letters this week.... #letters #theletterboxproject #community #connected_au #dpi

11.01.2022 101 years old! I bet her 14 year old Labrador enjoys sitting in the sun with her just as much as she does We have had a busy month rolling out our new IT system, with an unexpected influx of registrations (over 3,000) this month We have sent notifications to any writers waiting, so be sure to check your junk folder. The patience and support of everyone is so appreciated ... Tomorrow we will share a feel good story about a disability facility and one of our letters.

09.01.2022 13 letters from Cricket ACT on their way to an aged care home in Victoria. There must be a very positive culture at Cricket ACT and the playing group Australian Cricketers' Association for them to reach out and gift their time like this. The letters will be an absolute thrill for the residents to receive, all beautifully written and considered, and I am sure quite unexpected! ... This is also fantastic for the wider community to see, particularly for our young girls to see professional sportswomen supporting the community in such a tangible way. What amazing role models Thank you @ange.reakes_ep and @aca_players for getting involved!

08.01.2022 It’s a hard transition under normal circumstances but this year would have brought so many challenges for those like Sophie. The restrictions which have protected them, have simultaneously created crippling change. What do you think would help Sophie? We’ve had some great ideas here:... artificial indoor plants art with a garden focus a mini herb garden our virtual gardening group letters and craft about gardening Any other ideas? Do we have any garden lovers following? #gardening #gardeninglife #theletterboxproject #connected_au # community #letters #australia #isolation #nursinghome #agedcare #disabilityawareness

06.01.2022 Mini stained glass windows on their way to a nursing home We’ve had some beautiful feedback lately, the result of this sort of effort. One lady said It made me feel so special, like I was important to someone for a small amount of time

06.01.2022 We had a package of letters lovingly sent by the team at @discovery this week. This one caught our eye, with the writer being an exceptional artist. She coloured in this beautiful flower, she also included some blank sketchings for the recipient and encouraged her to colour them. Such a great activity for mindfulness Just lovely.

05.01.2022 It was an absolute thrill to chat to Jim Wilson from 2GB 873 - Sydney Talk Radio this afternoon about the Letterbox Project. This is definitely a highlight so far. We’re very lucky that one of our letter writers reached out to them Click the link to listen

05.01.2022 This is on its way to a garden loving man in his 70’s in South Australia. The lavender buds give the most beautiful scent to the letter, the photos are exquisite, and there is a little packet of seed mix. Such an amazing effort. It’s enough to inspire anyone to get out into the garden!

05.01.2022 A beautifully painted keepsake and a long lovely letter It’s hard to really capture how letters like this aren’t just letters. They somehow bottle up ‘love, consideration, effort, time’ and when they are opened by their recipient, all of that bursts out. To someone isolated and lonely, this will be magical ... #theletterboxproject #connected_au #isolation #loneliness #community #lockdown #flower #painting #letters #artist #art #artistsoninstagram #australia #volunteer

04.01.2022 A lovely write up by Time Out Melbourne

01.01.2022 56 years of marriage They must have been a great team. How hard do you think it would be to go through this strange experience without the person you’ve spent most of your life with? Hard to imagine. Hopefully she is immersed in books, escaping through words.
