06.01.2022 What is occupational therapy? What do occupational therapists do? these are questions we get asked all the time! Occupational therapists supports people to participate in activities (or occupations) that they find meaningful. When working with children, occupational therapists support participation in the occupations of childhood. These include: - Activities of daily living (e.g. toileting, dressing)... - Sleep/rest (e.g. sleep routine) - Education/learning (e.g. attention, handwriting) - Play (e.g. pretend play, games with rules) - Social participation (e.g. participating and belonging to a community, family or friends) When a child is struggling to participate in their occupations, we consider what barriers might be getting in the way. Perhaps they have difficulty tolerating loud noises? Maybe hand eye coordination is tricky? Perhaps they find joint attention challenging? Or they have difficulty activating their core muscles? At Connected Kids Occupational Therapy we strive to support your little people to learn new skills, using a relationship based approach that prioritises positive social connections. We recognise that children learn more when connected, engaged and most of all - when having fun! #occupationaltherapy #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #connectedkidsot #berrynsw
