25.01.2022 Our new facility is progressing well, however it is not lost on us the hard work that our trailblazers put in more than 66 years ago to ensure there was a service for local people with a disability and their families. In looking forward to a new era for ConnectGV, we are looking back at the achievement and milestones and talking to the people that have been such an important part of our journey and our vision for an inclusive community. Before COVID restrictions we commenced... compiling a series of videos to capture the stories and memories from those that made a real difference. 92 year old, Kevin Trudgen, is one of these people. Kevin has been involved with the service since inception, known then as Goulburn Valley Centre For Intellectually Handicapped. He has been a President, Treasurer and committee member of the board and is a life member. Kevin’s younger brother, Geoffrey had cerebral palsy and at age 20 he was one of the first clients to attend the Centre and continued to access programs and services for 50 years. My parents never ceased to find ways to improve Geoffrey’s quality of life. Geoffrey loved going to the Centre and would never miss a day. Kevin Trudgen The service was also the first locally to open a hostel to provide respite and a home for when parents could longer care for their child with a disability. Geoffrey was also one of the first clients in the hostel and he remained there for 20 years. One of the remarkable things the hostel parents, Lil and Bill did was to take 11 clients on a trip around Australia. That was a wonderful thing to have done! The Centre has fulfilled a great need in our community and from our family’s point of view it has been wonderful that Geoffrey could have a life that would not have been expected. 24.01.2022 A shout out to our wonderful team of staff here at ConnectGV. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the past six months have been a challenging time for all. Yet, throughout the uncertainty, worry and uncharted waters, our staff have always had the best interests of our clients at heart and have shone through these challenges. The work you do is not always visible but is incredibly important. Our team worked swiftly to amend the way we do things and moved to online program delivery ...where possible, to ensure our clients could safely stay connected for their general well-being. This ensured communication remained open and clients are able to continue to learn skills of their choice remotely, keeping their body and mind active and their spirits high. Clients living in our accommodation options have also been able to stay connected. Staff have put extra measures in place to keep everyone safe and have made use of various technologies to keep them connected with friends and loved ones on a regular basis. We thank each and every one of our dedicated team of staff for their ongoing commitment and care. We would also like to mention and thank all essential workers, like our staff, you are doing a stellar job to keep everyone safe and ensuring that the community can continue to access necessary services
24.01.2022 Congratulations to the 2020 Cameron Gray Memorial Award recipient, Jayson Smith. The Cameron Gray Memorial Award is presented annually to recognise effort and achievement over the year of a member of the ConnectGV community. This award is in memory of Cameron Gray who was a participant of the GV Centre for many years and despite having a disability was an active member of the community.... Jayson has overcome significant struggles and has achieved many of his goals. He is a mentor to his peers to maintain a healthy lifestyle, by keeping fit and eating healthy and participates in a variety of sporting clubs in the Goulburn Valley, including GV Stars, the ConnectGV cricket club and has competed in the GV Harmony Cup. Jayson has also competed in community charity fun runs. Jayson has had many personal achievements and volunteers his time at his son’s school. It is an absolute credit to Jayson in the manner in which he keeps pushing through everything that comes his way. Jayson’s drive, determination and his successes have been an inspiration to his peers, staff at ConnectGV and most importantly himself and his young son.

20.01.2022 Did you know, ConnectGV provides accommodation support options? Do you have Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) in your NDIS plan? We have a vacancy and are seeking a semi-independent young person, who is ready to take the next step in life and move into their own home with two other males. This facility has sleep over support incorporated into the roster.... If this sparks your interest you can view the property via the Housing Hub link and register your interest. https://www.housinghub.org.au/property-details/1086 or alternatively ....directly with ConnectGV via our website through the NDIS enquiry form or email address. https://www.connectgv.com.au/ If is not for you right now, but may be of interest to you in the future...we would also like to hear from you (directly) to assist with our future planning.

07.01.2022 To our participants, families and carer, THANK YOU for adjusting your sails and working with us to ensure continued supports can be delivered throughout the COVID pandemic. We are planning and hoping over the coming weeks, dependant on the stage of restrictions, to see increased engagement and participation in programs as we again start to re-emerge. In the meantime stay safe and reach out if you need assistance.
04.01.2022 Face masks and coverings are helping to keep us safe during the COVID pandemic but they do present some challenges for some members of our community. This is a great little introduction to some sign language to help you communicate with the deaf community during COVID and to let people know you are wearing a smile
03.01.2022 To all the men out there whom have made a difference and had a positive impact on our lives. Today is your day to be celebrated. Relax! Enjoy! You deserve it

02.01.2022 We have some budding golfers at ConnectGV. Individual Support participants, Ben and Brad, recently joined Kialla Golf Club Inc. and are loving learning all about golf and getting out on course regularly. The sporty pair adding another skill and sport to their impressive repertoire. Brian and Lyn at the Kialla Golf Club have been fabulous in the support they have provided Ben and Brad. Brad didn't have his own golf buggy and they went out of their way to source a buggy free ...of charge to ensure Brad was kitted out with all he needed to play golf. Ben and Brad featured in the Shepparton News last week honing their golfing skills. https://www.sheppnews.com.au//gallery-kialla-golf-action-1
