25.01.2022 Nicholas Tsekouras is an emerging visual artist born and raised in Melbourne, studying to complete a double degree in a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) and Laws at Australian Catholic University. Tsekouras is very fond of colour, self-expression and provoking audiences through his work. His works are very stylistic, often containing vivid expressions of the human condition and social issues. Previous collections have included his ‘Eyes’ series and his most recent series of pap...er collages which have now formed my ‘no words’ collection. His works typically use a range of inks, markers, fine-liner, acrylic and watercolour and are often all used in the same piece. He typically produces works on watercolour paper but isn’t afraid to explore new surfaces. Nicholas also loves exploring new techniques and experimenting with unconventional uses of mediums. 'No words #18' - This piece is a part of my 'no words' collection in which I endeavoured to communicate various social issues which I had been thinking about during my time in Melbourne's first lockdown. The piece does contain various words but they are all crossed out. While they're all struck through, they are still intended to be read. Fast fashion has also always been an issue I have tried to tackle through my everyday life and in my artworks. The fashion industry is having a devastating effect on the environment and it is time that we did something more about it. Each year, there are more garments produced than everyone in the world can physically wear each day. This is of grave concern and needs addressing immediately, especially in light of evidence to suggest we're destroying our planet to make these garments. This piece highlights what is wrong with the industry and tries to focus on the current situation in order to bring about some thought on how we change it. #connectionartspace #artists #illustrators

24.01.2022 The series 'Hong Kong' explores my relationship with the place that I grew up in. A place that is so filled with love and beauty, but yet ignores the social issues that the locals go through. The series features a documentation of the way I view Hong Kong, essentially a view into my perspective. Focusing on the struggles of the working class and the inequality difficulties that many go through. In Hong Kong, a high number of people are living below the poverty line, where ci...tizens pay extensive amounts for such tiny cramped apartments. A crowded living environment is the norm, where the average living space per person is 15 square meters, roughly the surface of a standard shipping container. Hong Kong is known for its fast-paced lifestyle, however, many do not realise that this is led from the busy overcrowded lifestyle of the working class struggling from poverty. Through viewing my images, I want the viewer to take a second look, to understand that these buildings aren’t cool looking but actually says a lot on the state of the people. Where Hong Kong photography is popular due to the unique housing and buildings. I want the viewer to take a second look at these images. To see and understand that this environment is not from a unique architecture standpoint, but as a statement of the current situation of the working class For more on Caitlin’s work: Instagram: @http.cchan #connectionartsspace #hongkong #artoftheday #artist #filmphotography#filmisnotdead #forthefilm #filmisalive #hongkong #hongkongprotest #artists #artistsofinstagram #artoftheday #art #artwork #artgalleries #womensupportingwomen #womeninbusiness #artsubmissions

21.01.2022 Danielle Divola is an emerging artist and writer based in unceded Naarm (otherwise known as Melbourne), within the Kulin Nations. Her practice explores themes such as sexuality, religion, identity, subjectivity and the nature of art and culture through a kaleidoscopic range of traditional and non-traditional media, including performance, painting, clay sculpture, embroidery, video, object-based work and memes. Growing up in a Catholic Italian-Australian household as a young b...isexual person has provided rich experiences for critiquing, valuing, deconstructing and playing with culture and art, which over time have informed the heart of Divola’s practice. She is also committed towards creating a more inclusive artistic landscape for young LGBTQ(I)A+ artists, as well as advocating for anti-fascism and social justice throughout her artworks and writing. Artwork One: 'Absolutely cooked' An observation of the genuinely cooked state of things in the world at the moment. A complex and layered lasagna of systems of inequality, if you will. Artwork Two: 'Bottom text' The Australian government cares more about Anzac Biscuits than they do about eight hundred year old birthing trees. It is as simple as acknowledging that this nation was set up for genocide, which continues every day. A challenge to decolonise. 19.01.2022 Flower Crown Workshop with Belle Formica @__re.belle Making a flora crown is a beautiful way to connect with Mother Naturea vibrant, resilient, ever-changing force that you are a part of. To be kind to her, these crowns use natural materials only so they are completely compostable. You will need:... Foliage & flowers, with long bendy stems Secateurs or scissors A bag to collect your cuttings in Twine or string made of compostable materials e.g. cotton, hemp or jute You don’t need to spend a lot (or any money) to make a beautiful flora crownsee what you can find in your garden and local area. For the base of your crown, you’ll need enough greenery to twist together & wrap around your head. It’s best to collect more than you think you’ll need. Flexible foliage is ideal, rather than stems that snap when you bend them. I use baby sage for the base of my crowns as I have an abundance growing. Some other nice examples are cuttings from jasmine vines; eucalyptus, olive, peppercorn & acacia trees. Take your time examining flora available to you and enjoy the process. You’ll also need flora for decorating your crown e.g. daisies, dandelions, lavender, rosemary, whatever you like! Avoid anything with sharp stems, prickles, thorns and anything toxic! If you aren’t sure, don’t pick it. Be mindful and make sure not to pick flora that is home to a bug :) Ideally, gather your materials as close to making the crown as possible. Store delicate flowers (e.g. daisies) in water or the fridge if you won’t be using them immediately, to keep fresh. Feel free to message or tag me in your comment if you have any questions leading up to the workshop @__re.belle

13.01.2022 Exhibiting Artist @tsekourasarts Presents Artwork One: 'Pride' - This piece is an artwork from my Eyes collection. All the pieces in the collection demonstrate the overwhelming emotions we can all experience and aim to explore the audience to seek out these emotions in them and to avoid bottling them up. This piece in particular is in celebration of pride in the LGBQTIA+ community and creatively celebrates the diversity of the community through colour. As per my usual conce...pt, it also explores through the various placement and colour of the eyes, the emotions it can bring. Pride can bring a sense of happiness, sadness, anger and so many other emotions. It's important to recognise these and not let them be bottled up. The drips on the page symbolise tears, but are also metaphors for the accumulation of overwhelming emotions. Artwork Two: 'No words #14' - This piece is a part of my 'no words' collection in which I endeavoured to communicate various social issues which I had been thinking about during my time in Melbourne's first lockdown. The piece does contain various words but they are all crossed out. While they're all struck through, they are still intended to be read. This piece in particular was very specific to my feelings around the pandemic at the time. I was viewing it as an uncontrollable and deadly virus which was uncontrollably destroying everything in it's path; humans, our livelihoods, our wants and dreams. It has been an incredibly saddening time during lockdown and this is simply an accumulation of my thoughts and feelings during the time. #connectionartsspace #artists #art #artoftheday #artwork

11.01.2022 Hi all! A reminder that our Flora Crown Workshop is happening at 4pm today!

10.01.2022 Upcoming Flora Online Exhibition October 23- November 13, 2020 Flora by definition refers to the plants of a particular region, habitat or geographic period and is derived from the latin word for flower. Nature is and always has been selfless, cycle after cycle, providing for us. Seasons of birth, life and death, transformation and growth, seasons swinging the weight of our world. Beautiful, delicate, resilient ecosystems sustain our community spirit and support our intercon...nected lives. How have we found ourselves collectively on this Indigenous land and amongst its native flora, can we use flora as inspiration to learn Indigenous knowledge and resolve our collective gap? Flowers can provide the smallest yet most powerful glimpses of hope, joy and colour. Flora is an exploration and celebration of the natural environment that surrounds us. Flora asks artists to rejoice in native flora and environment whilst exploring themes of belonging, acknowledgment, home, culture, passage and identity. Nature and flora are encouraged to be both inspiration and medium. 08.01.2022 Exhibiting artist @ruby.ellam I am a Melbourne based artist, curator and art historian with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from Monash University. In my practice, I investigate gender, sex, trauma and humour through a range of artistic styles, ranging from completely abstracted paintings to text art to skilled technical drawings. I utilise my experience as an individual with chronic, reproductive pain to transform our understandings of the nuances surrounding womanhood ...and sex. This imagines an abstracted and abject render of my physical form, juxtaposed with the hyper sexual "Playboy" logo and pearls, heavily laden with gendered meaning throughout history. This painting evokes conversations about constructed identity, personal autonomy and the power of symbols. This is not a subtle painting, though I am not a subtle person. My exaggerated ideas of sexuality, gender, and identity purposefully skew expectations. My work is inherently subversive, and riotous. 05.01.2022 Growing up in a multicultural environment, my photography centers around my identity. As a half Chinese and a half Filipino currently living in Sydney, I struggle with identity and its something that I look into in my art and it is shown in the way I express myself. My photography looks into the influences from my background and personal experiences growing up in multiple countries. Currently, living in Sydney, I tend to communicate the feeling of not belonging in a certain ...community or even in my own community. With this, I experiment with analogue photography and the raw elements it provides. A nostalgic feeling that digital cannot provide. As a film photography, I use myself and my life and my own surroundings as an inspiration for the images I create. The series 'Hong Kong' explores my relationship with the place that I grew up in. A place that is so filled with love and beauty, but yet ignores the social issues that the locals go through.
