25.01.2022 Speaking as someone not afraid to snack at the keyboard, having noise cancellation built right into Google Meet is an awesome move. To recap: Google has no less than 3 products for video chat (Hangouts, Meet & Duo) so it's strange that during COVID it's felt late to the videoconferencing game. With Hangouts & Meet now combined, and the leadership of all Google's messaging platforms united under the one leader, it's great to see the fruits of that labour coming in the form of some pretty groundbreaking (not to mention useful) tech. https://www.forbes.com//google-meet-switches-on-jaw-d/amp/

24.01.2022 Google is in the middle of its first virtual Smart Home Summit. Lots of exciting stuff on the horizon, especially with Google Assistant Routines, Android 11 smart home controls and formalised Smart Home for Entertainment Device support.

22.01.2022 Big announcement overnight. Philips Hue announce a ZigBee switch that sits behind your existing wall switches. These are better than any other solution currently available because it will take into account the "on" and "off" state of your existing wall switch/button, meaning you can continue to use your existing wall switch without stuffing up your entire smart home setup.

21.01.2022 Google's Chromecast is a favourite of ConnectIT's customers and it just got a BIG update that makes it even more of a must-have for a smart home. Turn any old TV into not just a smart TV, but a Google TV. Easy access to Netflix, ABC iView, Stan, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video plus Google Assistant built into the remote so it fits seamlessly into any Google Home setup. That's on top of the existing ability to "cast" video from your phone to your TV. Hard to beat.

20.01.2022 Looking back on the week, both Amazon's Ring and Google Nest had a big week of new smart home product announcements. However the one which raised the most eyebrows is this prototype in-home security drone from Ring. While technologically impressive, there are certainly some questions being asked of Amazon around privacy that they'll have to answer before release.

19.01.2022 Yes, this is serious but it needs to be put into perspective. The cameras that are part of the Insecam "hack" aren't actually hacked, but in fact doing what their manufacturer programmed them to do, which is broadcast their stream to a web address that is publicly accessible without a strong password (or password at all). While a little sensationalist, it's a timely reminder to always do your software updates when prompted and use brands that support their products with security updates over a significantly long period of time (I.e. the useable life of the product).

What this will mean is that instead of just "casting" content to your TV from the Stan app, you'll be able to use your TV remote and access all the features of the Stan app in a much more natural way.
