19.01.2022 Tomorrow marks a Day of Mourning going back almost a century. Since 1938, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have used 26 January to protest the barriers to justice that remain firmly in place to this day. Meriki Onus, a Gunai and Gunditjmara woman from Bung Yarnda, writes: "We are here for justice. We are here for Indigenous rights. And we are still here, every day, fighting for sovereignty to protect Indigenous people and our sacred lands."

07.01.2022 Ideology triumphs over evidence: Morrison government drops the ball on banking reform. "Commissioner Kenneth Hayne delivered 76 recommendations to reform the industry in February 2019. Almost two years on, the government has yet to implement 44 of those and turned its back on five key reforms including curbing irresponsible lending practices. 06.01.2022 In the past 12 months approximately 1.4 to 1.9 million Australians have paid for debt management or credit repair services . These companies are known as ‘debt vultures’ as they often target people in financial hardship with poor quality debt advice and services. The community expects the Government to introduce strong protectionsthat’s why 92% of Australians want the same protections against debt vultures as in the UK, where debt advice must be in your best interests and tailored to your individual circumstances," says our CEO Gerard Brody. Listen to Radio National's Law Report which covers the story in depth including interviews with financial counsellor Kane and Gerard Brody.
