15.01.2022 Why Sustainable Swimwear? The textile industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions - the 2nd biggest industrial polluter in the world, ranking only behind oil! While the creation of new fabrics has a significant impact on the environment due to its land, water, and energy-intensive operations, theres the additional issue of textile waste and what to do with it. In Australia alone, an estimated 3 million tonnes of textiles goes into landfill each year. That's... an estimated 6 tonnes of clothing to landfill every 10 minutes! At Contessa Volpi we are doing our bit to be a part of the solution. For our sustainable swimwear, we use regenerated nylon fibers made from recycled plastic polymers coming from fishing nets, plastic bottles, and carpets. We believe it is a step in the right direction - thanks to ECONYL made in Italy. We give special attention to the fabric dying process. Adopting digital printing to reduce water use (traditional printing techniques require 50-60 liters of water per meter on average), and using nontoxic dyes that dont contaminate the water and air. We also use compostable post satchels to get our orders to you. We manufacture our bathing suits in strict compliance with environmental regulations and eliminate all unnecessary waste.
