23.01.2022 The NTEU Sustainability Network and the UNSW Enviro Collective are delighted to announce a public forum: REPOWERING AUSTRALIA FOR A SAFER FUTURE 1-2pm, Wed, August 17 Venue: CLB8 Guest speaker: Mark Ogge, Beyond Zero Emissions... Come and hear how Australia can make the switch to 100% renewable energy in 10 years. Beyond Zero Emissions is an independent, volunteer-based research group. See more

22.01.2022 Ah, poor old Bruce. Our local member is riding rollercoasters with his own party. First the solar panels lurch he had to try and respin, now the ethics classes are up in the air...why did Barry give Fred Nile a month to market his ideas? He could have ended this madness today. Note in his last home delivery PR piece, he has left a way open for the Coogee Bay Hotel to get its high rise. Part 3A being repealed is meaningless if the Regional Panels take decisions from Councils. A Big O'Dipper!

20.01.2022 So the Herald reports on a study showing no real difference between high ses literacy outcomes from public or private schools but low ses year 9s performing at at y5 high ses level. And the public purse still subsidises elite private schools. Shifting deckchairs as we've done since 70s is not solving this. Only constitutional recognition of a right to literacy for all is the effective way forward. Then the money will be found and the mechanisms found for hearing and acting on those otherwise silent voices.

20.01.2022 Congrats David Shoebridge and John Kaye for marathon filibusters (leaving David with record for the Legislative Council of 358 minutes of non-stop talking). So impressive - how can O'Farrell treat the public service with such disdain? (echoes of Greiner...) One wonders how they think they will staff hospitals and schools into the future if they treat their most valuable employees so poorly.

20.01.2022 Water bill today. Yippee - water tanks paying off. No mains for garden and one toilet only tank water. Small washing up dish in sink instead of using dishwasher and a frontloading washing machine means: Water usage bill now less than $13 a month av. 200L a day. Love it!

20.01.2022 As an Oxfam (previously Community Aid Abroad) supporter for thirty years I urge you to get behind Alex Gollan's team in the Oxfam Trailwalker in August: 100k in under 48 hours. (I've done the distance but I won't tell you the number of hours it took us!) Oxfam targets the causes rather than the symptoms of poverty and injustice. Hope you'l help. Follow the link.

19.01.2022 Thank you Ross Gittins. So many of us feel let down in every direction - media, government, community... We are witnessing neglect of an ancient ethic - the duty of care of every generation to act as custodians for the future. Who will call upon us all to do our bit? In NSW those individual households and businesses who have taken the bit between their teeth to reduce CO2 emissions get a kick for their care.

18.01.2022 Generating power on your roof while the sun shines and harvesting the water when it rains remain a very satisfying - and, over time, cheap - way to contribute to our kids' futures . Surely community and industry together can devise a way to assist low income earners to generate and harvest and thus largely remove the ongoing costs of electricity and water from their lives - win-win people and planet.

18.01.2022 Next Greens@theBeach event - so many issues: What would be useful to people? migration, economy, marine parks, education funding, justice for Indigenous Australians, Greens in government forum (reps at local, state, federal levels) renewable energy, Israel & Palestine...What would be of interest before the end of the year do you think?

18.01.2022 The O'Farrell government in one fell swoop has delegitimised state government - as if it needed to take a further dive. How can the citizens of this state have faith in any law made if, on a whim, it can be retrospectively revoked? Today it was clear that concerned citizens in good faith had become a part of the clean powered rooftop power station spreading across Sydney - now bewildered at this kick in the teeth.

18.01.2022 Didn't take long for O'Farrell to show true colours! 20th century thinking: that a war with teachers and nurses and fire fighters is something that the community wants. The community actually values these people Barry - and Bruce. Will future schools, hospitals, community services and emergency services be able to attract staff? I guess O'Farrell has been waiting for this chance since the 20th century...

17.01.2022 Beats me why the ALP endlessly dances to Murdoch's tune.

16.01.2022 Thank you Australian voters for a hung parliament - the only force for action on climate change. Libs are in a parallel political universe. Labor is riding on Greens back- have just begun to work out what people actually want of leaders - leadership! Inching forward.

16.01.2022 Very talented young local musos - Jeff! Playing off on 15th for a chance to enter the big arena at Footie Stadium. Well done to all of you!

16.01.2022 Tomorrow is deadline for Open Space Discussion Paper responses to Randwick Council.

16.01.2022 Attacking installations is expedient wool-pulling by O'Farrell today with the intention of blinding the NSW community to their repugnant retrospectivity proposals. The saddest part is that O'Farrell et al think that turning the clock back on renewable energy is good politics. I begin to despair for our children's children. Haven't heard a word from our professed greener than thou local member, Mr Notley Smith.

15.01.2022 Don't forget to turn up to Climate Action rally on Sunday at 11 - Prince Alfred Park (Redfern side of Central Station)

14.01.2022 Checkout Greens@theBeach our new local organisation for bringing people together to consider environmental and political issues.

14.01.2022 Time to bring back camp grounds around the city and beaches.

13.01.2022 Randwick Rugby club received a waiver from Council on 2 years of rent on Coogee Oval - $33,000 ( GFC poor they say)! But the Club had refused to let the Dolphins League Juniors use Coogee Oval. Pre-election Bruce Notley-Smith (new MP) instead spent a quarter of a million Council dollars preparing a local park for the Dolphins' use. 3 Greens opposed this. So community loses approx. $300,000; footie clubs laughing!

12.01.2022 For your diary: Thursday, 11 August, Coogee SLSC 6:30 for 7. Screening of GASLANDS and hear from Jeremy Buckingham, MLC, spokesperson for mining and John Kaye, MLC, spokesperson for Energy. $20 ($10 unwaged) including a drink at the bar. 12.01.2022 So our new MP says Labor secretly gave the Coogee Bay Hotel Part 3A status. Well isn't that handy! I s'pose it's just like that darn budget black hole. Let's see him bring this farce to a screaming halt or will he be stuck in the quagmire of the long history of Liberal party obligations resulting from donations from these applicants. Watching and waiting Bruce.

11.01.2022 Wow! What a week. A carbon price AND onshore processing! Is it Xmas?

09.01.2022 I'm very happy to be a member of a party that treasures local groups and local issues while not losing sight of the impact of local on global and vice versa. While there will always be tensions for such an organisation, especially as it grows and diversifies, tension of this kind is productive of policy transparency and integrity of a kind the other parties lost long ago. No issue for me to be a member of a local group that initiates and contributes to NSW policy that in turn contributes to Australian Greens policy. A rare and very effective confederation of local groups is hardly the stuff of a riveting feature article in the Monthly.

09.01.2022 And the teacher bonus money - let's hope teachers all agree to pool it and spend on something collectively and educationally sound - like employing more teachers to work with remote indigenous kids

09.01.2022 Keep the Aboriginal flag on the Bridge permanently

08.01.2022 The talk in our local paper by some of the independents on Randwick Council about the role of the Governor General and dissolution of Federal Parliament shows outrageous ignorance of our system of government. An extraordinary admission for publicly elected officers. Worse is our local member of State Parliament trying to justify receipt of hotel donations by Liberal and independent councillors that rendering Council without a quorum!

07.01.2022 How can we continue to be 'led' by two major parties who show not a smidgin of compassion for refugees? Such a smart electorate to put The Greens in balance of power position in the Senate.

07.01.2022 You know - just thinking through all the blokes as Prime Ministers - do you think the security service would have treated them this way? Not on your Nellie - or Johnny, Bob, Paul or Gough. Inept is the best word for their response. Shoo them out, Julia. Get some girls. A few calm words with your indigenous people to show some understanding of their anger would have worked wonders. Shame.

07.01.2022 A bit disappointing to see that Four Corners last night showed us not one woman in the school principal's role. Its analysis of power to the principal was uncharacteristically superficial too.

06.01.2022 I love Gen Y. The future's in good hands!

06.01.2022 A budget that extends the school chaplaincy program -Shame Labor shame. Isn't there a constitutional challenge underway re s116 "Commonwealth not to legislate in respect of religion...commonwealth shall not make any law ...for imposing any religious observance..."? Wonder where it's up to?

04.01.2022 Our first Greens NSW Senator and the balance of power - how sweet it is!

04.01.2022 Urgent - sign up to the Avaaz petition to stop Ugandan homophobic legislation which could result in death penalties

03.01.2022 Tomorrow night Council considers an oversized eyesore development that dominates Wylies Baths for the 5th time. How is this possible? What a waste of time. Check the Streetcorner article and add your say.
