06.01.2022 Message from Robert Norris There has been much publicity about the donations for the bush fires, made to the Red Cross and other charities, not being disbursed but retained by them for some mythical future catastrophe like floods or cyclones. This has adversely affected other organisations such as the Lions Clubs. Disclosure - I am the Secretary of the Endeavour Lions Club in Cooktown. Because of doubts and concerns expressed by some donors to the bush fire appeals I have... followed up these concerns. All moneys donated for the bush fire appeals to any Lions Club, including ours, are transmitted to the Australian Lions Foundation (ALF), the body which disburses these funds. The ALF has six directors all of whom are volunteers and receive no payments for their service. The ALF does not deduct any administration costs and 100% of donations are disbursed to those in need. This distribution is channeled through Lions Districts or Lions Clubs in the areas affected. To date the Endeavour Lions Club, thanks to the generosity of our supporters in Cooktown, has ear marked $4,000 for the appeal. A further $1,000 will be donated to the Hartley Creek organisation for the care of animals injured in the fires. In addition, as was reported in the Local News, we have also received in excess of $3,400 from the raffle and BBQ held at Cooktown Hardware on Saturday. Thank you, firies and Cooktown. On Sunday, Australia Day, the Cooktown RSL Memorial Club and the Top Pub will be holding a day out and all the net proceeds from both will be directed to the Endeavour Lions Club. So early next week these moneys will be sent to the ALF for disbursement to our friends in the south who are most in need. What can I say. The generosity of the people of Cooktown is beyond belief. Thank you. Thank you. Why would you want to live anywhere else. Attached is correspondence sent to Robert outlining how the Lions Club Foundation has received and allocated money and is further committing money. I’m sure you’ll agree that it is being spread around where needed most.
