19.01.2022 SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FOR WEDNESDAY 2/9/20. A Severe Weather Warning as been issued for the Monaro District for Wednesday 2/9/20, with vigorous and strong warm... and dry winds expected as a frontal system moves through the district. We currently have approx. 100 notifications of private landowner burns planned or underway, and with the weather predictions burning off should be ceased until more favourable conditions prevail. Landowners who have recently burnt off are asked to ensure their fires are totally out, as it only takes one spark for a fire to escape. Only as recently as this afternoon, a landowner north of Cooma lost control of their fire, resulting in 3 houses being directly threatened and fire crews from RFS Cooma, Bredbo & FRNSW Cooma having to rush to the scene to halt the fire at the houses. This serves as a clear message to all landowners considering burning of, as conditions this afternoon were mild with little to no wind.
