25.01.2022 Every day around 18 Victorians will have a cardiac arrest, with only 1 in 10 surviving. Bystander intervention has the greatest impact on improving that rate. D...id you know that performing CPR and using an AED lifts the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest by 68%? October is now dubbed 'Shocktober', as Ambulance Victoria encourages all Victorians to learn CPR and locate their nearest AED. Watch Paramedics Jess and Luke demonstrate how to easy it is to perform CPR and use an AED.

25.01.2022 2020! Crazy isn’t it? HAPPY NEW YEAR May your new year be safe , happy and above all ,healthy.

25.01.2022 Very soon our tight knit community will again be one. We can’t wait for the ring of steel to pack up so our friends and family from metro Melbourne can join us again. I suspect the 9 th of November will bring a flurry of lawn mowers, and gutter cleaning and gardening.! Everyone will be getting ready for a relaxing Christmas season. Which will be most welcome after a truly awful year. Our lake is full , if you haven’t heard!... Whilst you are house keeping, it’s time to remember that holiday time is also a time of accidents. Our towns DE FIB is ready for action.. Although I sound like a broken record.. Please familiarise yourself with its location, share with new friends and neighbours, but most importantly know the code... Know it’s your responsibility in a crisis ,to access the locked box.. You could need to save a life.. Message me for details... On another note, I need to raise some funds this year, to purchase a new unit , in the not so distant future .. At the moment there is clothing for sale, with our own coongulla emblem. Some of the proceeds from each sale will be distributed to the DE FIB. So if you need Xmas presents or a new coongulla hoodie for yourself or your kids, please consider.. The ordering is super easy and the clothing really good quality... You can find details on coongulla crew.. Take care...

24.01.2022 Sadly today, one of our small community families, lost their entire home in a structure fire.. Devastating for those involved.. Goods and services and donations are being organised by good community members.... The AED account has community funds in reserve to maintain the unit, this money was originally raised by our small community. I would like to use a small amount from this account to purchase items for this family in need.. Before I withdraw any monies I am seeking community permission.. So please, if anyone has a genuine , and adverse objection, I would welcome a private message.. Thank you

24.01.2022 Recently I have seen ads for Defibrillators for sale in Harvey Norman ... how fantastic is that? Accessible and affordable, for all places the public might visit. Shopping centres, train stations, churches, the possibilities are endless .... Wonderful that they are becoming common place..... All of the Defibrillators on the market are very easy to use, you don’t need any special training . A voice inside the unit, will give you instructions... It may save a life... All this is irrelevant, however, if you don’t know where the nearest Defib it is located! Do YOU know where the coongulla Defib is located..? Do YOU know how to access our unit? Our unit is located on the wall of the cfa building. It is in a locked cabinet that can only be opened using a special code. If you’d like access to the code , to store in your phone message me . Otherwise, on the sign outside the cabinet are a list of phone numbers .. Buck, Andrew Miles , Geoff Lynch and mine..( Jennifer Miles) All these people can supply the code in an emergency.. Moving into the summer holiday season ... Make sure you share our posts, make sure our visitors and our new neighbours know about the Coongulla Defib. We are so very lucky to have an asset like this in our community. On a side note... the financials are available to view by any member of the community that wish to see them.. There has been NO activity in the account..

23.01.2022 I never imagined that this DeFib page would become a noticeboard, but recent correspondence, that affects the ability for me to raise funds for OUR towns defibrillator have come to light. As some of you are all aware, I was donated some lovely raffle prizes from members of the community. Lovely people, who have a genuine interest in the Defib project. My proposed raffle was to be held at paddy’s market , where I applied to rent a $15 stall to sell my $1 tickets. ... The Hall committee withdrew their permission for my raffle. The Hall committee, sent me an email, which explains their reasons .I have replied to their correspondence. It was relevant to re print the emails, to show the wider community that despite my work and dedication to this project, I have been thwarted in my attempt to raise much needed funds. The financials for this Defib are and have always been transparent. The correspondence is too. It’s a community asset.

21.01.2022 If Santa had cardiac arrest delivering presents to your place - would you know what to do? The man is several hundred years old and is right in the zone so we all need to be ready. Seriously.

21.01.2022 Stubby Holder account details.. Jennifer Miles ( Defib Account) BSB 063 118... ACC 10608112 Please reference you name and stubby This account is in my name, although the money is community funds.Because the DeFib has no committee ,I was unable to open a bank account in any other name but my own. The statements for this account are totally transparent and can be accessed at any time. But , it’s imperative that the money moving in and out can be traced.. Please message Meg Louise to place your order...

19.01.2022 I last updated my fans on the 1st of April, with the message STAY AT HOME, sadly more than 3 months later COVID 19 is still causing anxiety and disruptions to most of our lives. Good mental health is just as important as good physical health.. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you need...there are many excellent resources available...I can point you in the right direction.... message or ring.! You will find my contact number on the outside of the Coongulla Defibrilla...tor Cabinet.. Do you know where that is? Most importantly ,do you know the code to open the cabinet in an emergency? Have you stored the number in your phone.? Message me for deets.. Stay safe, although not mandatory a mask ,where you can’t socially distance is a great insurance policy.

19.01.2022 Facebook, reminds me every few days to share my news with all my followers... Luckily I have no news to share... Our Defibrillator is still ready and waiting in the event of an emergency..... Although registered with Ambulance Victoria ( as required), there is no governing body to instruct you where your closest AED is or how to use it... This YOU must know.. Do you know how to unlock the security box ? Do you know the code? Do your neighbours, friends and relatives and those without Facebook know where our Defibrillator is located..? Could you operate it in an emergency...? Please familiarise yourself with the unit.... know the code, and the location..... After all, it could be in YOUR best interest .... ponder that for a sec..

19.01.2022 Such a surreal and uncertain situation we all face currently.. For the safety of the community, we have purchased the required disinfectant and added a mask and disposable gloves to our locked AED box.. In an emergency, don’t hesitate to access the defib..( contact me if you’d like the code to store in your phone )... I can assure you the unit is currently sanitised and ready for use. Please do your best to stay home., If you genuinely require assistance, AED related or social please don’t hesitate to contact me.

17.01.2022 Our towns Defib was accessed last night. How incredibly lucky we are to have such a resource in our tiny community. I do have to stress though, the importance of going straight to the box.... You will be directed to the code .... It is clear ,when you get there, how to open the locked cabinet. There are phone numbers available as well, people who can tell you the code.. Time is of the most importance and getting our Defibrillator to the patient as fast as possible is critical. Message me if you’d like the code, to store in your phone.. In an emergency ring 000. But the message this morning is to go STRAIGHT TO THE CFA SHED TO THE DEFIB CABINET....

17.01.2022 I’m reminded constantly to update my fans...... I really glad I have nothing to update! The Defib is checked regularly, I know how to access the box. Do you? Did you know you need a code?Do you know how to get the code?... Do you even know where the locked box is located? Have you discussed the Defib with your friends and neighbours? Would you know how to use it? Knowledge is power,.,,.. know this stuff.. Want more info? Message me......

14.01.2022 I hope you are all keeping warm! Facebook re minds me often to update my fans. I’m more than happy there is not an update to share!... The Coongulla Defibrillator is warm and snug and secure inside its locked box.. I check this once a fortnight ... I unlock the box with the special code and make sure the valuable contents are safe, dry and operational.. I would hope you all know where this box is located but more importantly, how to access the unit if it was needed in an emergency.. Our community needs to remember, there are no emergency services that will bring the defib to you.. It is up to each and everyone of us to be able to retrieve it in an emergency... I am a committee of one .....but we have other volunteers, who’s names are printed above the unit ,to call if you identify a problem.. These people are not able to bring the Defib to you in an emergency.... That bit is up to you... do YOU know how to unlock the box ?? Some of you may also know we have recently sold our home on Ryan’s rd.... At this point I am still the president of the defib committee. But will update you fully if the situation changes.. The funds for the ongoings of the Defib are very transparent. If any member of the community would like to check these. Don’t hesitate to message.. In closing .... keep warm, do a rain dance, and watch our lovely lake start to fill with fresh clean water..

14.01.2022 With the weather warming up ,the thoughts of holidays come to mind. Our little town swells with visitors. That is what makes Coongulla special.. Sometimes holiday times are accident times. We should be prepared . Our CFA is ready for fires.... But as a community we need to know what to do in an emergency , if someone collapses. Perhaps they have drowned ? Fallen off a jet ski or boat? Or simply collapsed at home .. With thanks to previous committees, we are incredibly lucky to have access to a Defrbrillator..A genuine life saving device.. You don’t need special instructions to use it. You don’t need to be a qualified first aider, You simply have to know where it is located and how to access this equipment.. It might be up to you.. So before the visitors arrive and the music and the jet skis start.. Remind yourself of the location Check it out.. But most importantly know you can access this at any day or time .. Have a super Christmas and a Cracker of a new year.. Celebrate at the Hall, I know it will be a ripper night! And finally a big Welcome to all our new residents ! Merry Christmas

13.01.2022 Good Luck to all the participants in the mighty Coongulla Boat Rally today... perfect weather for a community event. Don’t forget to purchase a raffle ticket for the safe code. The scenic flight is an amazing prize.. I can give you a safe code too! mine is a winner all year round!... ... Have a great day.

12.01.2022 The last time I updated this page was April 1st, sadly the COVID-19 situation was no joke. How fortunate in Wellington to have so few infections. How fortunate to live under stage 3 restrictions. Our Melbourne friends and family have been doing it tough..... With luck, the numbers and the curve will go down and we are all able to re start our very ordinary lives.. With luck our little town will swell again with our fabulous holiday makers, friends and relatives. Our Hall and our CFA will again hold their usual activities.. Fingers crossed this is sooner rather than later. In the mean time, whilst you at home, and spending way too much time on Facebook, like our page and maybe contact me if you’d like to know the Coongulla Defibrillator code to the secure box. I would hope you all know where the Defib is located , and in an emergency can be accessed by any member of the community.. Im crossing everything ! I’m spending way too much time on social media, so message me if you like, I don’t have too much else to do! Cheers,

10.01.2022 I haven’t needed to update this page since early April, thankfully no news to share. The Defib is checked regularly, it is dry, safe and most importantly the batteries and pads test at 100%..... ready for action.. I notice lots of new buildings in town and that means more friends to join our community.... I would hope that you could tell our new residents about our DEFIB. Tell them where it is located and share with them the access code.. Explain how important it is to ring 000 in an emergency and organise someone to collect the unit... The Defib bank account is available for viewing at anytime.,the funds in this account , go towards maintenance of the unit.. Other than the donations received ( and published) there has been no activity in this account...; sadly we have earned about 5cents interest! In the next few years the Defibrillator will need to be upgraded.., they only have a limited lifespan..There will be a fundraiser, to enable us to do this.. Till then, our valuable little Defib is ready for buisness.. Do you know how to use it? Can you tell your neighbours the access code? Pm me..... I can help..

10.01.2022 See attached the withdrawal amount of $130 to pay for the new pads. The new balance is shown. I have a invoice and courier slip ( paid) and can provide this if needed..

08.01.2022 Good Morning.. In the last month we have had some donations for the upkeep of our towns De fib... The money was direct debited to the account .... Although there is money in the account, each time the unit is activated the pads and batteries need to be changed.. The maintenance is an on going cost as well. Eventually the unit will need to be replaced . They do have a lifespan... I would like to acknowledge the awesome Rundle girls and family. They sold glow in the dark spinners ( is that right??) At the hall on NYE.... 100% of their efforts was deposited to the account.. A very generous effort..... Another private donation Katharina Klein. Many thanks for your help... I hope you all head down to the famous Coongulla Boat Rally next weekend.. Support the CFA . The prizes for the raffles are unbelievable.(Cathy Blyton) We have such a wonderful and united little town of permanent residents and those with permanent homes and our visitors. Who all benefit from the extraordinary work of volunteers in the community. Thank you again for the incoming donations.. The DeFib bank details are pictured on its page. If you consider making a donation, please message me. As I am a committee of one , I need the financial transactions to be totally transparent..

07.01.2022 An awesome fundraiser... please order a stubby holder

06.01.2022 The weather this Australia Day weekend, looks to be brilliant! Perfect for a boat rally. Good luck to all the participants ! Please support the raffles , I know there are amazing and very generous prizes to be won.... The proceeds support our cfa , who will cook you a snag and supply the soft drink. There will also be coongulla stubby holders for sale at $10 each ( no eftpos for these), and our coongulla clothing to look at and order if you wish.. Stay safe, wear a shady hat , hydrate and sunscreen.. Any questions about our DeFib? have you stored the code in your phone? Do you know where it is located? Could you collect it and use it in an emergency ?ask me for details.

06.01.2022 Happy Australia Day...... what fortunate people we are ,to live in such a wonderful country.. There are many organised special events all over the country, I hope you are able to celebrate too. Maybe a boat rally?...... Thankfully our Coongulla summer season has been without any major incidents..Let’s hope that continues.. Do your friends and neighbours know how lucky we are to have our own defibrillator in town? Do they know where it is situated? Do they know how to use and access it.? Please share this information... I notice we only have 54 followers! I’d like a heap more! So please share this page, let others know , spread the word.. You never know you could save a life... On another note... I have all the current financial records .As I’m a giant committee of 1. .I have no need to meet, provide records or write meeting minutes..BUT the financial records are transparent and available to view by anyone at anytime... This money was provided by the community to maintain the defibrillator.. Don’t hesitate to message me if you’d like more info on this or the unit in general..

05.01.2022 Thank you to everyone that has purchased stubby holders and clothing.. Meg has been the driving force for this brilliant fundraiser .. I am very thankful for her community spirit.. This tiny committee is very , very grateful for your ongoing support..... The money raised will be used to maintain and eventually purchase a new and in date DeFibrillator for our awesome town..I will keep you updated on the progress in the new year. Recently I received a very generous donation from Donna Blackley, I need to acknowledge her thoughtfulness and generosity.. I also received a magnificent piece of art as a prize for a raffle which I intend to run early next year. ( watch this space) Yesterday I also received a $500 donation from the NEWRY PUB, I am completely in awe of their amazing generosity.. The girls value our towns patronage and are willing supporters of our town. I hope next time you need some refreshments or a feed you will drop in.. ( the cutlets are delicious, just sayin ) The newly renovated area behind is brilliant for a catch up with mates, a meal or a beer.. Thanks to all concerned at the FARMERS ARMS HOTEL ( 51 45 1312) Santa has come early to the COONGULLA DEFIB.. and this post simply can’t express my overwhelming gratitude.. The DEFIB community bank account can be viewed at anytime.. Money is being deposited currently for the stubby holders, each deposit is referenced. Yesterday, funds were transferred out of this account to pay for the stubby holders. Please message me if you’d like a record of this outgoing .. If you have ordered and not yet paid , a deposit to this account would be appreciated. BSB 063 118 ACC 10608112

05.01.2022 Our little towns, De fib is ' warm' and safe in its specially designed box .This box has a keypad coded lock, which in short means you need to know the code to access the equipment. In the event of an emergency the way to access this code is evident . There are also a series of phone numbers printed above the box. Each of these people can give you the code. If you wish, and send me a message I will supply you with the code for your records.. Keeping in mind, though, that this ...code is the ONLY way to keep it safe.Although monitored , the coded box is the only true way we can keep our resource in our town for us to use. I am also looking for a fourth local person to be a contact. This means only, that your contact details would be printed above the box ,in case of an emergency, you simply would need to give the caller the code.. There would be no other requirements... Let me know if your keen. Stay warm!

04.01.2022 Finally Spring time! Hard rubbish time !! Our weather is slowly warming up and so too our snake population. Already a snake has been spotted in town. They have been asleep since May and awake now , very hungry. They are looking for mice, rats ,frogs , toads and any small animal that’s living in your woodpile or in rubbish lying around. Hard garbage time of year, is not so good for the snakes .!!!... Do you know what to do if you are bitten??? Firstly call 000,for an ambulance Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage.Bandage tightly above and below the bite site. Keep patient as calm and as still as posssible. Be prepared to provide CPR , which includes accessing the Coongulla Defibrillator . Our Defib is accessible by any members of the community for any emergency.. Familiarise yourself with its position . Finally, and easily the most important , one mans trash is another mans treasure, happy hunting,

04.01.2022 Another quick Defib post...scroll on by if you like! The unit has been returned, from its outing and factory reset. The pads have been returned to their original position. The battery checked.. Ready and set to go ....perfect operating condition..... But protocol and guidelines, suggest new pads and battery are purchased ( if used)... I will place an order in a day or so. I must stress, this is protocol only and doesn’t affect the unit at all.. Feel confident our Defib, will work exactly as it should. I would expect these pads and batteries to cost around $300 ( delivered) I have available funds in the Defib account for exactly this purpose, and will publish receipt and invoice in due course.

03.01.2022 So many thanks to our wonderful volunteer CFA members for keeping our little town safe from fires over the last week or so. They really do a remarkable job . Thankfully Coongulla was spared this time. We are incredibly lucky...... Besides the CFA who are ready to act in the event of a fire emergency, so too is our Defibrillator. Ready to go in any health emergency... Fully charged and in perfect functional condition. Tested as required this week. The cabinet which houses our Defibrillator unit is located on the wall of our CFA building. On the Hodges road side. It is locked but can be accessed easily in an emergency.. It can be accessed by anyone but should you have an issue , several phone numbers are located written above the unit. Never hesitate to ring any of the numbers if required.... Share our post....Attract more likes...Get the word out.... There is no prize or reward..But you might just save a life..

02.01.2022 What amazing Autumn weather , thankfully the small ,but welcome rain, last week has greened everything up very nicely.. I was approached by a local resident over the weekend, who asked the question .... who do I ring in an emergency , that will bring the Coongulla Defibrillator to me?.. is the Cfa? Or the police? Or the ambulance paramedics? Or do I ring, the numbers on the board and the people named will bring the unit?... I was slightly surprised at this question. But figured ,as I’d been asked, I should answer it publicly.. The answer is.......... none of these people. No one will deliver you the defibrillator . No one is on call to assist you to collect it in an emergency.. Although our Cfa have approved its location on their building , they will not deliver it in a medical emergency. You MUST know how to access this unit yourself.. There are volunteers listed on our sign, but these people if contacted will assist you in opening the cabinet to access the unit.. Perhaps familiarise yourself with the position of the unit.. Visit it.. Make sure you know how to open the cabinet.. It up to YOU to collect and use the Defibrillator in the event of a medical emergency... If you wish, send me a message and I will gladly pass on the code needed to open the unit... Commit it to memory Or if your memory is like mine , store it in your phone.... File it under notes hopefully it will be one of those notes you’ll never need ..

01.01.2022 Today the new Defib pads were replaced. The cost delivered was $130, which I transferred from the Defib account to my credit card.. I can, if required, screen shot the transaction.. I must also acknowledge Cathy Blyton . In May this year, Cathy deposited $180 into the Defib account. This money was raised and allocated to the Defib account , by the entire coongulla community , by purchasing clothing items..... A fantastic effort, which has enabled us to continue to up keep our towns Defibrillator. Thanks again Cathy, and I apologise for not acknowledging your hard work and generous donation sooner.. Our Defib has now stopped beeping, anyone who had been to the unit or the cfa , would have heard it beeping from inside the cabinet..., it has an alert to tell us to replace the pads when used...The batteries are fully charged , and the cabinet batteries have also been changed...The new pads plugged in ready to go, and the unit again registered with Ambulance Victoria... The code remains the same... DO YOU KNOW THE CODE? MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all, thanks for your ongoing support of this unique piece if equipment. Stay safe over the festive season , and remember , in an emergency, ring 000 and go straight to the cabinet..
