24.01.2022 HOW’S YOUR SOUL? Our soul: Basically who we are in the inside. We equate external control with inner tranquility. But it doesn’t work that way...... Quietness and rest are found not in control but in surrender. Judah Smith, How’s Your Soul? It can be hard to admit we might not know how to help ourselves or what we need. Surrendering to the ambiguity of not knowing when or how a problem will work out can be freeing. Counselling can help you in the process of finding calm without external control. #judahsmith #howsyoursoul #soul #counselling #mentalhealth #wellbeing #cooranbong #therapy #selfcare #anxiety #depression #psychology #mentalhealthawareness #curiosity #mentalillness #stress #health #mindfulness #psychotherapy #healing #support #recovery #addiction #help #motivation #encouragement #growth #hope #PACFA #cooranbongcounsellingservice

11.01.2022 THE IMPORTANCE OF COUNSELLING WHEN YOU’RE BUSY I can hear you asking, Where would I find the time to go to counselling? Yes, it can be a busy time of year but this is exactly why this is the best time to book a session. ... This is the time that you might be considering decisions about your direction in your job, study, location or relationships as you approach a new year. This time of year can also be very difficult for those who do not have loved ones to share it with, those who have lost loved ones they previously shared it with, or those in the middle of family conflict. Taking some time out to process decisions or conflicts with a neutral person can be a great way find peace in a busy season. Message, email or call me to book in 1 hour of time for you to focus on yourself. #counselling #mentalhealth #wellbeing #cooranbong #therapy #selfcare #anxiety #depression #psychology #mentalhealthawareness #curiosity #mentalillness #stress #health #mindfulness #psychotherapy #healing #support #recovery #addiction #help #motivation #encouragement #growth #hope #PACFA #cooranbongcounsellingservice

10.01.2022 In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth? - Carl Rogers American psychologist and one of the founders of the humanistic approach to psychology puts it so well. I am passionate about providing a safe, confidential and comfortable space for you to share whatever you feel you need o...r want to. Booking a counselling appointment can be a daunting experience so I’m here to introduce myself and take away some of the mystery of counselling. I welcome any questions you might want to know about myself or the counselling process. Feel free to get in contact by message, email or phone call. #carlrogers #humanistic #personcentred #clientcentred #counselling #mentalhealth #wellbeing #cooranbong #therapy #selfcare #anxiety #depression #psychology #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #stress #health #mindfulness #psychotherapy #healing #support #help #motivation #encouragement #growth #hope #PACFA #cooranbongcounsellingservice

09.01.2022 WHO AM I TALKING TO? I’m talking to you anyone who is reading this! I’ve posted a little about who I am, what I’m doing here and what counselling is but I want you to know who I’m talking to.... Counselling can benefit anyone. I am especially passionate about encouraging children and young people to reach their full potential. I have experience working with children, adolescents and families, as well as particular experience working with families after separation. I provide adults, adolescents and children a safe and confidential space to talk about any problems they are experiencing. Speaking to someone who is non-judgemental, understanding, accepting and well-trained can help to provide a safe place with a neutral perspective and can help to reduce stress. I’m here on Instagram to find those of you who could benefit from Cooranbong Counselling Service, especially those who don’t understand how or why counselling works. Do you need a neutral person to talk to? Do you need to reduce stress in your life? Do you want to find out more? Ask a question or book an appointment by messaging, emailing or calling whatever works for you! #counselling #mentalhealth #wellbeing #cooranbong #therapy #selfcare #anxiety #depression #psychology #mentalhealthawareness #curiosity #mentalillness #stress #health #mindfulness #psychotherapy #healing #support #recovery #addiction #help #motivation #encouragement #growth #hope #PACFA #cooranbongcounsellingservice

07.01.2022 SENIOR STUDENTS TESTIMONIAL // "R U Ok? Day is important to me because there was a time in my life when someone checked in with me and it significantly impacted... me seeking help. My aunty had noticed I was not acting myself and had been more withdrawn than usual for some time. She invited me out for lunch. I felt a sense of trust with my aunty who I already had a connect with and when she noticed a change in me and took the time to see how I was going, it showed me that someone genuinely cared. It was a simple chat but it meant a lot to me to be able to sit there and share how I was feeling and why. She did not make me feel like I was crazy, she made me feel that it was ok to feel those things around her. She helped me figure out how to seek more help from my parents and professionals. My encouragement is to just take the first step and chat to someone you trust. If you don’t move forward, you aren’t going anywhere." (Anonymous HCLM Senior Student) See more

02.01.2022 SO WHAT IS COUNSELLING? Counselling is type of chat. As well as being the counsellor at Cooranbong Counselling Service, I’m a school counsellor, and for the students coming to see me, I call it coming for a chat. This seems to be a less intimidating way for individuals to try counselling and reiterates that there are little expectations of them from the counsellor, the counsellor is there for them.... Counselling is a chat with someone who has studied how to be most helpful to you in a time of pain, healing, confusion, problem-solving and decision-making. Sometimes chats are very silent and the communication doesn’t happen with words. These conversations are confidential (with some limitations such as if you or a child or young person is at risk of harm) and a process for seeking change in an aspect of your life or to explore thoughts and feelings more in depth. Simply, I’m here to help make your life better, you choose what you want to work on and we work together to get you there. I’ll bring listening ears and empathy, you bring yourself just as you are and we’ll use your strengths to overcome whatever is in front of you. Message or call to make a time for a chat. #counselling #mentalhealth #wellbeing #cooranbong #therapy #selfcare #anxiety #depression #psychology #mentalhealthawareness #curiosity #mentalillness #stress #health #mindfulness #chat #psychotherapy #healing #support #recovery #addiction #help #motivation #encouragement #growth #hope #PACFA #cooranbongcounsellingservice @unumdesign #unumfam

01.01.2022 Two of my favourite things: doughnuts and real talk (both of which I believe have healing powers!) Eating doughnuts was a great way to support the collaboration between @doughheadsnewy and @real365collective to raise funds for Australian suicide prevention charity, @ruokday and to help create awareness and reduce the stigma around mental health. @ Doughheads
