Personally, I have struggled with men...tal illness throughout a large portion of my life and thankfully there have been many things that helped me through my struggles. One of the most helpful things that has helped me is just simply talking to someone. Whether it’s a Counsellor or a Psychologist, they have always been able to help me through any sort of struggles I am facing. Personally, I think speaking to a professional is the best thing I could have ever done in terms of my mental health. 23.01.2022 Thursday was R U OK Day and for me it really hits close to home This day every year always makes me reflect Reflect on the people I know, makes me wonder how th...ey are really doing. Reflect on my own journey through various mental health struggles. And also, on how many times I’ve said I’m fine when I’ve been anything but. RUOK day always hits close to home because it reminds me of my past And the things I still continue to carry with me today. It reminds me how sometimes it can really feel like constantly treading water. Just desperately trying to stay afloat. And it feels as though what’s going on in my life is not worthy of someone else's time or attention. So you don’t mention anything. But that’s the problem right there. Everything we experience is valid and worth sharing if it helps even just a little bit. RUOK day also reminds me to think more outside my own mental health. As I can sometimes get caught up in my life and struggles. And take a good hard look around me. It also makes me think of how many strangers we cross paths with in everyday life. People at the grocery shop, the petrol station, the bank just to name a few. People who's lives we touch even if just for a brief moment, That can leave a lasting impression. Because you really never do know what kind of day someone else is having And kindness honestly doesn’t cost a thing and is something that is sometimes underrated in a fast paced world. 12.01.2022 We’re thrilled to announce the 26 incredible community projects that will receive funding as part of our latest grant round. Up to $15K each will be provided to... 26 organisations across Australia, working to support the homeless, those living in poverty, refugees, Indigenous Australians, youth-at-risk, those living with a disability, cancer patients and the list goes on! It’s impressive how quickly these organisations have adapted to the pressures of COVID-19 they’re flexible, they’re forward-thinking, they’re just getting on with it in the exact spirit of the Sisters of Charity themselves. The Sisters of Charity have worked tirelessly to help disadvantaged, marginalised and socially isolated people since their arrival on the shores of Australia in 1838 and are overjoyed to see their good works continued by our Foundation. Here’s just a sample of those good works now made possible: Lunches, uniforms and educational supplies to help disadvantaged kids excel at school Intensive support to help migrants and refugees relocate and find jobs in regional Australia Driver training and mentoring to help Indigenous Australians obtain their driver’s licence and secure employment BBQ dinners and other practical support to help the homeless of Redfern re-engage with society The Sisters of Charity Foundation offers two grant rounds every year. Currently we have... a consult room in Salamander Bay and are expanding into Tanilba bay to keep up with the growing need.
