21.01.2022 From 11.59pm tomorrow evening (12/5) theres now a 5th reason for Victorians to leave home: visiting friends and family - with a maximum gathering of up to ten ...people outdoor and having five visitors in your home. We know this will come as a relief, but we need to be clear. Although these are our first steps back towards normalcy - they are not an invitation to host a dinner party, every night of the week. Were asking Victorians to use common sense - you should only do things like visit friends and family if its safe. And you should only be undertaking these activities if you really need to. Use your judgement. And think about the health of your fellow Victorians. Because right now, staying apart is whats keeping us together.
21.01.2022 Big thanks to Wendy Tuohy for her beautiful article in @theageaustralia today. We are so grateful to share The Melbourne Map story and thank you all for the won...derful support and cheering on through this whole project. We are hard at work documenting other wonderful cities, towns and regions. Thanks for ordering the jigsaw, which is now sold out of current stock and available on back order. We will deliver as soon as they arrive in early June - just in time for some winter puzzling with the family (or ISO?). The whole team are super grateful for your support @lewis.brownlie @debs_design @sean_m_rodwell . Drop me an email if you have any questions. [email protected] With love and gratitude. Melinda. 14.01.2022 2020 has not been the year any of us wanted. Cancelled events. Plans put on pause. Uncertainty about what the future holds. And I guess thats why so many peo...ple want to pretend this is over. Others dont have that luxury. In the last 36 hours we lost two more Victorian lives to this deadly virus. We dont yet know their names, their stories or the circumstances in which they died. All we do know is that except for the company and compassion of the medical staff who cared for them they would have died alone. No family. No friends. No holding hands. No goodbyes. Denied the last quiet moments that we all hope for. Thats how dangerous and infectious this disease is. Thankfully, its a fate that most Victorian families have not been asked to endure. And I think, for some, thats led to a creeping complacency. But although today its someone else tomorrow it could be you, or me. I know a lot of people arent scared because this feels like something happening to other people in other parts of the world. But you should be scared of this. Im scared of this. We all should be. Yesterday, we reached a grim new milestone, the most cases in a single day. Today, we surpassed it. Its clear we are on the cusp of our second wave and we cannot let this virus cut through our communities. Its why based on the advice of the Chief Health Officer, Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions will be reinstated across metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire from 11:59pm on Wednesday 8 July. For six weeks, and if you live in these areas, therell be only four reasons to leave your home: Shopping for food and essential items. Care and caregiving. Daily exercise. Work and study if you cant do it from home. Otherwise: Stay home. Stay home. Stay home. In case it needs repeating, stay home. We are fighting a global and deadly pandemic. This Stay at Home direction will apply to your principal place of residence that means no escaping to holiday homes. And because we need to limit the spread of the virus across our state, there will only be three reasons to cross the border of these metropolitan areas: Shopping for food and essential items. Care and caregiving. Work and study if you cant do it from home. Unless youre a local, that means no fishing trips at Lakes Entrance. No four-hour hikes in the Grampians. Businesses in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will also return to Stage 3 restrictions. Restaurants and cafes will return to takeaway and delivery services only. Beauty and personal services will need to close. Entertainment and cultural venues will need to close. Community sport will need to stop. I know just how tough this will be for these businesses and for their workers. I promise, well have more to say shortly about support to help get you through. I also understand six weeks might feel like an eternity. But its the time our health experts tell us they need to really get on top of this thing. Many parents, teachers and students will be worried about what happens with the school year. I can confirm that all Year 11 and Year 12 students in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will go back to school for Term 3 as planned, along with our special schools. For students Prep to Year 10, were going to extend the school holidays by one week, so we can get more advice from our health experts. But I want to be upfront and let parents know that a return to remote learning for these kids is a possibility, if thats what they tell us is safest. For people who live in regional Victoria, where case numbers remain low, current restrictions will remain the same for now. Weve talked about this virus being like a public health bushfire. By putting a ring around metropolitan Melbourne, were essentially putting in place a perimeter to protect regional Victorians. This is not where any of us wanted to be, but we have to face the reality of our situation. To do anything else would have deadly consequences. I dont take this step lightly. And I know just how deeply frustrating this is for everyone. But Im asking you, please talk to your families. Talk to your friends. Talk to your neighbours. Talk to your communities. This isnt over. And until there is a vaccine or a drug or a cure, there is no such thing as normal. For every restriction that you break and all the health advice that you ignore the consequence may be someones life. Now more than ever, we need Victorians to play their part. Lives are counting on it.

13.01.2022 **SCAM ALERT** Its extremely disappointing to hear there are Victorians getting calls from people who claim to be from the Victorian Department of Health & Hum...an Services requesting peoples credit card details for a COVID-19 testing kit. 12.01.2022 Last nights Future Melbourne Committee saw a welcome motion by c. Leppert calling for a delay on the reconstruction of Southbank Promenade, and much greater ad...vertising and community feedback on the design next year, which we hope will see a discussion on the potential heritage value of the award winning original 1991 post-modern design. Councillors also discussed the Market Square Charter for the proposed square to replace much of the open air carpark of Queen Victoria Market, with over 80 submissions from the public. While we welcome a greater respect for the sites Aboriginal history, including in the naming of the open space, and dont in theory object to a change of use of the carpark, we do share the concerns of a number of objectors. These include what the re-location of carspaces further away and underground could do to accessibility for existing market customers and tourists, the vagueness of what the open space will be used for, the continued lack of clear justification for the works in the first place, and the lack of true democratic consultation about the future of the Market, which for most part has simply presented a fait accompli. The Market Square Charter passed but not unanimously, c. Watts in particular citing the concerns of objectors and voting against with a passionate argument in favour of traders.
12.01.2022 This graph show every coronavirus case in June, grouped by age. And it paints a picture that I think every young person needs to see. Younger Victorians are cat...ching this virus and spreading it at a higher rate than anyone else. I know some behaviour might seem harmless a few friends over the limit, handshakes and hugs, sharing a drink and ignoring the rules. You think you wont get it you reckon youll be alright. And I know youre probably sick of hearing about it too - of reading about it, of talking about it. Youre probably tired of posts like this from people like me. And I get it, I really do. But this isnt just about you. Its about your mum and your dad, your nonna and yiayia your housemates and friends. Its about doing your bit, and helping protect those who arent as fit and healthy as you might be. I know I say it a lot but we all have a part to play, and I really do mean that. Talk to your friends, inform your family help stop this getting any worse. Im not trying to lecture you, or sound like your dad either and this isnt about blaming young people. But the fact is that this virus is infecting the strong, and debilitating the vulnerable. Its a global issue, it affects everyone - and young Victorians have a unique opportunity to do something about it. So please dont let this opportunity pass. Call it out, do your bit and stay apart.

11.01.2022 Weve all got to play our part. Small sacrifices add up - and the sooner we pop a lid on all this, the sooner we can come out to play again. If you live in metr...opolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire you must wear a face covering when you leave your home. If you are in regional Victoria, it is also recommended that you wear a face covering when you are in your local area when you cant keep 1.5 metres from other people. Face coverings will help to keep everyone safe. For more information call TIS National on 13 14 50 or visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au
09.01.2022 Youll see this ad on your TV in the next few days. Its a campaign about you and to thank you for all the sacrifices youve made. The time apart. The hugs mi...ssed. The events cancelled. Weve all had to adapt. And weve all had to find new ways of working and learning and staying connected that none of us wouldve dreamed of a few months ago. I know its not been easy. But it has been working and it has been worth it. Were heading in the right direction but were not there yet. And as much as wed all like it to be, this is not over. Because were still asking you to stay home. Were still asking you to maintain your distance to keep each other safe. For everything youve done and everything youve yet to do, I am so proud and truly grateful. Staying apart keeps us together. Remember that.
09.01.2022 This is incredibly concerning. Of the 3,810 Victorians who tested positive for coronavirus over the past three weeks, almost 90 per cent kept going about their... business after they began to show symptoms. Thats 3,400 people who kept going to work. Kept going to the supermarket. Kept caring for loved ones. Then, after having a test, 53 per cent did not isolate at home while they waited for the results. That means 2,056 people carried on as usual despite being concerned enough or sick enough to go and get tested. This is not about apportioning blame or pointing the finger. Its about recognising that far too many people are either not taking this seriously enough or theyre having to make an impossible choice. A choice between putting the safety of their colleagues and the community first and putting food on the table. Far too many people dont have sick leave entitlements. Far too many people cant afford to miss a shift. This is an indictment on the insecurity of our workforce and a conversation we as a society must have. But for now, we have to deal with the immediate health crisis were facing. So I implore all Victorians: if youre sick, get tested immediately. Stay home. Dont go to work. Waiting for the results has to mean exactly that. It cant mean Hopefully Ill test negative, so Ill just keep going to work in the meantime. If doing the right thing results in lost income, well help you. We have $1,500 hardship payments available for anyone who tests positive and their close contacts and if we need to extend the criteria on this, we will. The most important thing is to slow the spread. That means if you start to feel sick, you should assume you have the virus and behave accordingly. Stay home. Isolate. And keep your workmates and your loved ones safe.

03.01.2022 Wearing a face covering is a small action but it can make a big difference. And its one of those things where the more people do it, the exponentially bigger... that difference becomes. Thats why Victorias Chief Health Officer is making it a requirement not just a recommendation. Heres how itll work: If you live in metro Melbourne or Mitchell Shire and you need to leave home for one of the four essential reasons, you must have a covering over your mouth and nose. If youre travelling into regional Victoria for work or care reasons, that covering will need to remain on for the entire time youre there. If you live in regional Victoria, youll need to wear a face covering if you visit metro Melbourne or Mitchell Shire and were still recommending you wear one in your local area if you cant physically distance. There are a few exceptions. Kids under 12, those who have a professional or medical reason or if its just not practical, like when youre out running. In our schools, thatll mean teachers dont have to wear a face covering while teaching but students attending for VCE, VCAL or for onsite supervision will. Everyone will be expected to wear one on the way to and from school. This requirement wont be enforced until 11:59pm on Wednesday 22 July to give people a chance to buy or make a covering but if you already have one, please start wearing it now. And if you dont have a mask, a scarf is better than nothing. As with everything, this shouldnt be about looking for loopholes. Its about each of us doing something small to keep everyone around us safe. If Im wearing a covering, Im helping to protect you. If youre wearing one, youre helping to protect me. And if we all wear one, were all doing our bit to slow the spread.

01.01.2022 YOU CAN HELP ! I have been shocked at the continuing losses in the CBD, losses which have occurred because the City had only done piecemeal heritage reviews. I am pleased to see so many of my favourite places, many of which I thought were protected, will now be safe from complete demolition. I am even in favour of the listing of 55 postwar buildings - this is an important phase of the citys history, and even this large number is still far less than buildings from previous periods." Here is a selection of places that will be protected :
01.01.2022 Dear members, residents, followers and general public, Recently, 90% of the chronic and transitional homeless people in Melbourne were given te...mporary accomodation by the government due to COVID-19. However, the other 10% are still out in our streets, in a chronic homeless state. Our state government cant forcibly take them from the streets, and a lot of them suffer from serious mental health issues. We would like to see all politicians that represent Melbourne to come together NOW and draw a plan to make sure that this homelessness situation is taken seriously, independent of any political differences each party may have. More importantly, they must resolve to not abandon the homeless people back onto our streets again after the lockdown. This includes the 90% that have been put in housing, with the other 10% of those still in the streets supported in some way. Its time for all political parties to put their differences aside and look after those in extreme need. Homelessness is not a a political issue but a humanitarian issue. And it is one that neither the general public or our politicians can put to the side or ignore. #homelessnessprioritynumberone #zerohomelessness We may also suggest that individually, we all could write a general email requesting action to all politicians that were elected to represent Melbourne, from Local, State and Federal levels. Let them know that we can not tolerate homelessness in our city anymore and that no person should ever be left in our streets, especially after the lockdown. Please see below the currently list of email addresses from all elected politicians that are currently representing Melbourne: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Kind Regards, Rafael Camillo President | Residents 3000 #residents3000 #melbournevictoria #melbournecbd #melbournecommunity #melbournelife #melbournecity #homelessnessmelbourne #homelessness #zerohomelessness #govermentsworkingtogethertoendhomelessness #melbourne #zerohomelessness
