It is broccoli, a donut it is not good broccoli, or a great donut . Interesting in studies conducted by Dr Walter Kempner in the 1930s, patients with hypertension, diabetes, heart and kidney disease, and obesity were treated with a diet consisting solely of rice, fruit, juice, s...ugar, and supplementary vitamins (the Rice Diet). Records kept showed huge reductions in blood pressure and cholesterol, reversal of type-2 diabetes and heart disease, and massive weight loss. In one particular study patients lost on average 63.9kg each (and every single person lost weight). Nutrition is (for the most part) a choice. However, food is more than fuel or medicine. It is more than a particular macronutrient ratio. It stimulates pleasure pathways in the brain. Food has emotional associations. It has meaning and memory, reminding us of home, that time we visited a grandparent, or went on holiday. Food connects us to others, to our family. It is often a way we express love, care, concern, and/or celebration to others. In the attainment of health - what has been shown most important over time: Movement every day Management of stress, development of social connections, some sunshine, drinking water, and sleep Eating food that is supportive of your expenditure level, provides nutrients to thrive, AND you can engage in for a long time. Sure eating donuts all day, every day will not be supportive of body composition/training goals, nor is it the best option for long-term mental health. BUT on a given day it may serve a particular purpose maybe that donut connects you with a powerful memory of a loved one or you are sharing that donut with your child . These reasons are valid. Learning about food and what supports your health/goals takes time. Working out if you are eating foods to nourish yourself or to ‘hide’ from other uncomfortable feelings (loneliness, anger, anxiety, etc) takes time. 03.01.2022 Lets talk about CARBS. Carbs get a bad wrap due to lots of misinformation going around so lets just discuss a few points here today. 1. Carbs most certainly don't make you fat- over consumingcalories is what makes you gain fat. 2. Carbs at night is completely fine. This myth came about because after dinner we tend to move less and go to sleep so the thought process was that we will store the carbs as fat when asleep. However, they forget to highlight a few IMPORTANT factors e.g. our BMR(basal metabolic rate) is constantly going even when asleep. Those carbs can be stored as glycogen and doesn't necessarily need to be stored as fat. 3. Yes carbs play a big role with insulin, but that is most definitely not the reason you are putting on fat/weight. Being in a SURPLUS will do that NOT the carbs.
