25.01.2022 At Core4 we are strength and movement specialists. Here’s our awesome tribe practicing their mobilisation drills using (FRC) Functional Range Conditioning techniques. Its essential to incorporate FRC into your training practice. FRC focuses on improving mobility. Mobility, in an FRC sense, is defined as STRENGTH + CONTROL in order to expand upon unstable ranges of motion, articular resilience (i.e. load bearing capacity), and overall joint health. Prioritizing FRC principles ...in your training and PREhab program can be a huge game changer! Start implementing FRC principles into everyday training practice and optimize your joint resilience, health, and longevity! We can provide you an intro to FRC principles with exercise examples when you attend our educational based Strength & Conditioning class’s. If you’re interested In learning how to correctly optimise your movement and improve athletic performance simply get in touch and one of our experienced coaches be in touch to book you in for your Functional Movement Screen and assessment.

24.01.2022 Next time you squat, video it from the side. If you’re in balance, the barbell will track vertically over your mid foot. A balanced squat allows you to lift more weight than an unbalanced squat because your body is working as efficiently as possible. . Think about it like this: a race car with one wheel angled to the side while the other 3 are pointed forward clearly isn’t going to drive as well as another car with all 4 tires pointed in the same direction. Likewise, issues... in mobility, stability and coordination throw our body out of balance & decrease our movement efficiency. One of the easiest ways to evaluate this is to video your lifts & analyse how your bar is tracking. . You don’t need to be an expert mechanic to take the first steps at fixing your technique & body. Often it all starts with just illuminating the problem & understanding if we’re moving as optimally as we can or not. . If you don’t have a balanced squat here’s 3 simple things to think about: . 1 Engage your hips back slightly during the start of a squat (hip hinge) and then sit straight down. Taking too big of a hinge or driving your knees forward at the start can both lead to an off balance lift. . 2Keep those ankles mobile: limited mobility, especially at the ankles, will lead to movement compensations up the chain. This means you can try and try to keep your chest up, but if your ankle mobility sucks, you’re always going to drop your chest as compensation as you reach full depth. . 3 Maintain foot pressure: think about the tripod foot. Keep even pressure across the heel, first toe and 5th toe the entire squat. Shifting back onto the heels or forward onto the toes will lead to an off balance lift! See more

24.01.2022 While the farmer's walk is the most popular and widely used loaded carry, Zercher carries are also quite effective. "Zercher" refers to a style of exercise where the load is being held in the crook of your elbows. This transfers the load largely in front of you and increases the demands on the upper back while also greatly increasing core tension. The Zercher carry teaches you to squat properly. It also strengthens the upper back, traps, arms, and core more than other squat v...ariations. And if you give yourself time to get used to the discomfort in your elbows, you'll find that you can load this exercise as much, if not more so, than the front squat. Here are the key points in doing the Zercher carry effectively: Avoid leaning back. Try to keep your torso as upright as possible. What we want is to strengthen the core. If you lean back, you're essentially supporting the load with your spine and the core doesn't get as much stimulation because the load is moved back over the center of the base of support. Hold the bar in the crook of your elbows, keep them high, and walk while tensing your abs as if you were about to get punched in the stomach. Walk at a controlled pace. Going too fast will normally lead to a reduction in tightness or faulty technique. Carry the load for 10 to 50 meters, with 30 meters probably being ideal. If your midsection is "soft" while squatting and deadlifting, the Zercher carry will fix it. It'll also improve the overhead press by not only increasing stability, but by increasing shoulder and upper back strength. Similarly, that added shoulder and upper back strength will have a positive impact on the bench press. Finally, your biceps strength and pulling performance will also go up.

22.01.2022 Why should you include dips in your training? . Because they are one of the greatest upper body muscle and strength building exercises ever created. Aside from chin-ups, dips are a best test of one’s upper body strength to body weight ratio indicators and a very functional exercise. . The reason behind their effectiveness is that dips are a closed chain, compound movement that involves moving your own bodyweight. These types of exercises have long been proven to be the most ...effective at building muscle and functional strength. . Depending on your form you can heavily target either the chest or the triceps. If you choose to train triceps after chest you could assign chest dips as your last chest movement and then roll right into triceps dips as your first triceps exercise. . To target the chest your elbows should be flared out wide. Your hands should be a few inches wider than your hips. Going any wider will take its toll on your shoulders. If you’re using V shaped bars you should be facing into the V. The idea is to get your upper body forward of your lower body. Your chin should remain tucked down on your chest and your back should be rounded. One way to position your feet is by crossing them and bending your knees at a 45 degree angle behind you. . #trainingeducation #muscle #strength #performance #dips #poliquin #core4 See more

20.01.2022 The speed at which you execute your reps is called the Tempo In combination with reps number, tempo will dictate time under tension, and ultimately the outcome of your workout. Playing with tempo will unlock a whole new avenue of creativity for your workouts. ... Ian King introduced the world to the idea of tempo in the 90s (even if the concept itself predates this At this time a 3 digit template was used) Charles Poliquin adopted and improved the concept by adding the 4th digit. He felt the need to control the missing parameter - The pause at the end of the concentric part of the rep. A few more precisions. This lowering of the weight must be controlled. The amount of control is a greater predictor of athletic performance when it comes to powerlifting. It is inversely proportional with the risk of injury. Don’t get mixed up! In some movements such a squat and bench press the movement begins with the eccentric part of the motion. Whereas chin-up and deadlift have you do the reverse. You lower the weight or your body back to the starting position of the lift.

18.01.2022 MEET YOUR MACROS There is no such thing as 'good' or 'bad' foods! Food is just what we use to fuel our bodies and give them energy. Some foods are just more nutrient dense than others, but this shouldn't change how or when we eat them. ... It's time to meet your macros and get to know them more!

18.01.2022 3 TIPS FOR A STRONGER BENCH 1. Get off to the right start. Although it seems like a relatively simple movement, you need to strive to develop a consistence movement pattern to lift maximum weights. To do this you have to have to get into the right position to press. Here are some common technique tips to prepare you for lifting monster weights: Feet flat on the floor... Shins vertical Knees aligned with center of your feet Feet and legs pointed slightly out (as if you were in a squat position) Pull your back into a slight arch Tighten your lats Squeeze your glutes Point your knuckles towards the celling- a cue that will help keep your wrists straight and in a stronger position to press Find a reference point on the ceiling and keep your eyes focused on it during the movement. 2. Ensure structural balance. If you’re injured you can’t bench. One reason many individuals suffer injuries from bench pressing is that they have weaknesses in the muscles responsible for stabilizing the scapula. The problem is that during the bench press, the bench provides stability to the muscles of the upper back, shoulders and torso. One simple test to detect this imbalance is to stand relaxed, and if the back of the hands are facing forward, you have an imbalance. If this is you, then you need to perform corrective exercises, such as face pulls, to regain structural balance. 3. Specialize on the triceps. A key muscle group used in the bench press is the triceps, so it makes sense that doing a little extra work for this muscle groups might offer some benefit to increasing strength in this lift. Because it closely resembles the standard bench press, one of the best exercises for strengthening the triceps is the close-grip bench press. Most individuals should use a 14-inch grip in this exercise -- any narrower tends to create enormous strain on the wrists and elbows.

13.01.2022 TRACKING FOOD & LONG TERM HEALTH One of the best things you can do for your understanding of nutrition is learning how to weigh and track your food. It is the ultimate teaching tool when it comes to learning more about calories, nutrition and how your body will react to a certain amount. Yes, weighing & tracking food may seem strange and time-consuming, but it will allow you to gain a greater understanding of how to achieve your goals through calorie manipulation. You will al...so be able to understand how to maintain healthy body weight for a long period of time. Over time, through the knowledge gained from weighing and tracking your food, you will be able to understand how to stay on track WITHOUT having to track all the time! You will, by then, most likely know what an 'average' day of food looks like for you and be able to more accurately estimate what your food equates to. This knowledge allows you to have a break from tracking when you need to, but still be able to assess what you're eating and how it will affect your body. This is how you will maintain healthy body weight for the long term. I’m a nutshell. Initially track your food and work out where at you are and how your body is responding, from there make any relevant adjustments to your caloric intake and continue to track and leave a trail. If you have data you can review and improve. Coach Andy

11.01.2022 If you have enough time to get to the gym, you have enough time to do a proper warm up. We’re not saying everyone needs to do a full 20-30 minute warm up before picking up the barbell, but walking into the gym & grabbing the open barbell is not an optimal way to train. This approach not only limits your potential performance but also increases your risk of injury. . A proper warm up optimizes your movement by addressing problems in mobility &/or stability allowing you to perform at your very best. As a side effect, a proper warm up also improves your resiliency to injury. If this is important to you, you won’t make an excuse of I’m too busy. . Tag a friend that needs to hear this message
