18.01.2022 GOING DEEPER WITH MINDFULNESS MEDITATION Starts TONIGHT! Booking link in bio ... Research on yoga and meditation has exploded. There is evidence for stress management, chronic pain, emotional resilence, as well as helping to process memories and emotions. According to Neil Bailey, a neuroscientist at Monash University, one area of the brain that seems to get "chunkier" on brain scans is called the anterior cingulate cortex. The anterior cingulate cortex focuses attention, while the prefrontal cortex responsible for complex processing that then sustains that focus. It also appears to become more dense with mindfulness practice. An example of how they work together is when you have to make a choice between competing brain processes. Why is this important? Well, we all need a little bit of help choosing between the doughnut ("makes me feel good") or our yoga or meditation practice (also "makes me feel good"). Mindfulness meditation can really help up improve our ability to make choices that are nourishing and supportive of our individual needs. For the long game, I know that meditation has a more lasting, beneficial effect on my life than my short lived (or perhaps longer lived physical effect *wink *wink) than that of the doughnut! #synthesisofscienceandspirit #coreyoga #coreyogawestend

03.01.2022 MEET SHANNON We are thrilled to welcome Shannon to the teaching staff at @coreyogawestend She will make her debut next week as we launch our 2-week Sunrise Spring Intensive on Monday. Let me share a little about the lovely Shannon ... I am a Hatha yoga teacher that has been teaching many styles and forms of yoga for about 3 years. I started my journey with yoga about 5 years ago after injuring my shoulder in a car accident. Through seeking to heal my physical body, I became amazed at the effect yoga had on not just my body, but my mental health. After a couple of years of building my own practice, I went to complete a 6-month initial yoga teacher training and felt like I had only scratched the surface. I delved into the study of other forms of yoga including kids yoga, yoga Nidra, restorative yoga, yin yoga, pre and postnatal yoga, advanced anatomy, and applied adjusting. My passion for learning about the body also led to my studies in a bachelors of biomedical science, I then intend to complete a masters of physiotherapy studies. She is a bright and welcome addition to our teaching family!
