21.01.2022 More Facebook Account Cloning These cloning attacks are quickly followed up by a typical attempt at scamming. E.g. Asking for money, collecting passwords, credit card details. If you receive such a request from a Facebook friend, their account may have been cloned and it is not your friend who sent it. Communicate with them by other means, email or phone and follow the advice in these links. https://www.hoax-slayer.net/what-is-facebook-cloning-and-h/

19.01.2022 TELEPHONE SCAMMERS STILL ACTIVE I just received a call claiming to be from Telstra. He stated that my Telstra internet account was going to be disconnected because my computer was sending out malicious software. I asked him which computer, as there are several connected at my place. This confused him a little because his script only covers for single internet users. Then I asked him about the household mobile phones and iPads which also connect to the internet by household Wi...Fi. At this point he stated to get a bit shirty. I tried to ask him if my NAS (Network Attached Storage device) was also infected and he did not understand what I was talking about. He didn't give me a chance to ask him if my Solar Panels or VoIP, also network connected, were infected because he started calling me a "bastard". At this point I called him a liar and a scammer which caused him to hang up Please be vigilant when answering telephone calls. If Telstra discovers that your computer is sending out nasties, they will suspend your service and wait for you to call them.

16.01.2022 Scammers are still at it. and getting more personal. A recent email from Scamwatch reports that losses to scammers claiming to be from NBN are almost triple in 2019 compared with previous year. See full story here=> https://www.scamwatch.gov.au//monthly-average-losses-to-nb And here=>https://www2.nbnco.com.au//lea/protect-yourself-from-scams Additionally there are some lawn mowing service scams where a scammer either calls you or knocks on your door claiming to represent your lawn mowing service. Check their ID. Call your lawn mowing service to check their credentials. No scammer will want you to do this and may complain or bolt. If they are for real they wont mind in the least.

07.01.2022 Fake calls claiming to be from Telstra Over the last couple of weeks there has been an increase in the number of scamming calls claiming to be from Telstra. I received 4 calls myself.... Unfortunately two of my customers allowed the scammer to have access to their computer. Others rang me in a panic. 1. Do not panic. They may sound convincing but they are telling lies. 2. Hang up immediately. Definitely DO NOT allow the scammer to have remote control of your computer. 3. DO NOT pay them any money. 4. DO NOT give them your Driver's License number, Credit Card number, Date of Birth or any other identifying information. 5. Call me or any other reputable computer technician for advice. 0401193248 If you have permitted them access to your computer, turn it off and unplug it from the wall until a technician can see it. If you have given Credit Card details, call your bank immediately and have your Credit Card cancelled. This also applies to Debit Cards. If you see a telephone number displayed on the phone during the call, note it down, it may be useful. Try to remember details about what the scammer says and does, also date and time of call. It can help in reporting the scam to ACORN. Acorn is the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network run by the Federal Government.
05.01.2022 Beware of fake emails claiming to be from Telstra. This email is not from BigPond. Look carefully at the From: email address near the top. Mark as Junk email and delete.
