24.01.2022 Beatiful work by one of our favourite Cuban composers, Beatriz Corona, with words by Jose Marti.

22.01.2022 Performing in this today!

21.01.2022 Performing/rehearsing in the Sala Dolores, at the International Choral Festival, Santiago de Cuba in 2017.

20.01.2022 Our friends at Ethica sell beautiful clothing, bags, furnishings and other items, both online and in their store in Leura. Right now they have lots of lovely winter woollies made from alpaca, silk and cotton. By purchasing them you'll be supporting hardworking women in Peru and other Latin American countries.

20.01.2022 Continuing our occasional posts of music we love. We hope you love it too!

19.01.2022 We're loving Graham Abbott's choice of repertoire for exploring Latin American Baroque music in his blog "Graham's Music". We might even sing some of it in future - when it is again safe to do so.

19.01.2022 We love being part of this festival!

19.01.2022 So much joy! Mozart y Mambo in Havana.

18.01.2022 While we weren't able to go ahead with our planned 'Misa Criolla Come & Sing' earlier this year, we do know this music, and Piazolla's 'Libertango' quite well, so we might give this virtual choir a go. Who would like to join us? Details at www.aamcant.org.ar Incidentally, the conductor, Oscar Escalada, was one of the first people to help our Artistic Director Margot McLaughlin / Margot McLaughlin - Musician learn about Latin American choral music, back in the 1990s when she was preparing to conduct Ramirez' 'Misa Criolla' and 'Navidad Nuestra' with Macquarie Singers.

17.01.2022 A few of us took part in this Virtual Choir project from Venezuela last month. Looking forward to seeing the result in a few days' time! "We are almost ready ... in a few days we will be on the air with our message of unity and hope. 300 voices from the five continents come together in this virtual choir that brings us a message that echoes all hearts and helps us feel close. We continue singing, dreaming and creating. We invite you to be aware of our networks: @La_Schola on ...Youtube, IG and Twitter." #MasQueUnCoroUnaEscuela #SomosMuchoMasQueDos #WeAreMuchMoreThanTwo #MoreThanOneChoir http://www.fundacionscholacantorum.org.ve/ https://www.instagram.com/la_schola/ https://twitter.com/La_Schola https://www.facebook.com/groups/193334320681864/ See more

17.01.2022 News of the Venezuelan virtual choir in which our Artistic Director and a couple of choir members took part. We expect to be able to share the video soon!

17.01.2022 Happy birthday to Alex, our Cuban tour guide in November 2017.

16.01.2022 We asked everyone to wear an interesting hat for tonight's Zoom. The choir did not disappoint. Screenshot by Margaret Grove

16.01.2022 Now, like many other groups, not only has our gig been postponed, but rehearsals are suspended as well, all in the interest of protecting the health and safety of our members, guest musicians & singers, and audiences. Now and then during this time, we will post music, photos or info of interest, to keep us all connected. Here is one of the songs from the Postponed: Come & Sing - Misa Criolla - Fiesta de San Benito, performed here by the wonderful Chilean group, Inti Illimani.

15.01.2022 As we start to make plans for when we might sing together again, its research, research, research.

15.01.2022 Singing and socialising 3 years ago. For now, a period of planning and preparation behind the scenes, until the health crisis passes. And then we'll be back!

14.01.2022 Our favourite sheet music supplier is still open! Support your local businesses!

13.01.2022 Three great artists celebrated in one song / Tres grandes artistas celebraron en una canción: Oswaldo Guayasamin, Silvio Rodriguez y Beatriz Corona.

13.01.2022 A marvellous 2011 performance in Spain, of one of our favourite pieces, "Entre el espanto y la ternura" - words by Silvio Rodriguez, music by Beatriz Corona. Hoping to be able to perform this again to a live audience in the not too distant future...

13.01.2022 Guess what we're doing this Easter! Virtual Choir with SCHOLA CANTORUM DE VENEZUELA!

13.01.2022 Glad to see our friends in Brazil, the vocal ensemble ORDINARIUS have been staying home ('Fique em casa') whilst still recording fabulous music. This one, 'Baila Comigo' means 'Dance with me'.

13.01.2022 Then and now. La musica es nuestra vida! Music is our life!

12.01.2022 Rehearsals start this week, kicking off an exciting year of Celebrations for our 10th Anniversary! First up will be this event in Chatswood, strutting our stuff with five other choirs and culminating in the audience joining us all to sing Elliot Levine's moving "There is no Fear in Love" in six languages!

10.01.2022 Vale the great Morricone

10.01.2022 Virtual rehearsal in 30 minutes! Our MD is ready and waiting.

09.01.2022 CONCERT POSTPONED Due to the extraordinary circumstances arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided that the Come & Sing - Misa Criolla event scheduled for Saturday 18th April should be postponed to later in the year. In this, we are acting on recommendations from the Australian government health departments in order to reduce risk for our members, extra singers, guest musicians and audience. We will provide an update once we have finalised details for a performance later in the year.

08.01.2022 What a line-up!

07.01.2022 Do join us this Sunday for a multicultural feast of music (and food!). We're looking forward to sharing our pieces from Mexico and Argentina, as well as a rather upbeat take on an old song from the Spanish Jews exiled in the 15th century. We'll be catching up with old friends and colleagues too, from the Blue River Bosnian and Good Friends Korean choirs, as well as from the choirs of North Shore Temple Emanuel and Emanuel Synagogue.

07.01.2022 Working on our Bach to Brazil programme during Covid isolation, this a cappella choral setting of Morricone's famous melody just seems right.

06.01.2022 While many of us are in isolation, or have our activities seriously curtailed, many art galleries, museums and concert halls have opened their doors online. Let's enjoy Frida's artwork, and learn about her extraordinary life!

06.01.2022 Well, we won't be singing in the same room for quite a while yet, but this webinar provides some very timely information about what IS possible, and includes many creative suggestions for keeping choir going in the meanwhile, as well as for managing our eventual return to in-person choir in ways that will be both safe and productive for choir and audience alike. Ideas are brewing - watch this space!

06.01.2022 A memory from our "Vamos a Cuba" concert 3 years ago. "Maria en la Playa" (Maria at the Beach) by Fancisco Repilado, aka Compay Segundo, of Buena Vista Social Club fame.

05.01.2022 Cuba has a town called Australia. Who knew? From our Cuba Tour in 2018. In Matanzas Province, the village, founded in 1901, is in a sugar growing area and dominated by the old, out-of-service sugar factory's chimney, with "Australia" written prominently down its length. The village is named after the factory, the Central Australia, which like others in the area were named after continents. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia,_Cuba

05.01.2022 The composer herself, workshopping her piece "Corazon Coraza".

04.01.2022 Zooming with ol' JS Bach and trying out our masks.

04.01.2022 Well, the Jewish Arts Community of Choirs concert has turned out to be our only performance this year. So far. Well be back though and maybe sooner than you think. Like many artists right now were busily learning new technologies and hope to be putting something online soon. Meanwhile stay safe and well and well keep in touch by posting here from time to time. And please enjoy this song for all times - There is no Fear in Love (in 6 languages) by Elliot Levine.

04.01.2022 Things have been pretty quiet on the choral scene in Australia and we (Coro Austral) have been a bit absent from social media for a while. But now we think it's time to get a bit more active, at least here on facebook. So, from time to time, we'll post videos of some of our favourite musicians for you, our followers and fans, to enjoy. Here 's the first one, played by our dear friends and colleagues, Chilean-Australians Hernan Flores and Rene Gonzalez. We loved working with them on a special project last year and look forward to the next time, whenever that may be!

03.01.2022 Our MD all dolled up for tonight's rehearsal-meeting. Or is she...?
