23.01.2022 Sunday, 20 September 2020 Coronavirus update for Victoria Victoria has recorded 14 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 20,042. ... The overall total has increased by eight due to six cases being reclassified. This is the lowest number of new cases since 19 June, when we reported 13 cases in the past 24-hour period. Within Victoria, 12 of the new cases are linked to outbreaks or complex cases and two are under investigation. As public health work is undertaken throughout the day, outbreak totals are likely to change as the public health team identify links between cases and identified outbreaks, which is why there are now only two cases under investigation, as opposed to five this morning. There have been five new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday. Two men in their 80s, two women in their 80s and one woman in their 90s. All five deaths occurred prior to yesterday. One previous death was reclassified, resulting in a net increase of four deaths since yesterday. All of today’s five deaths are linked to known outbreaks in aged care facilities. To date, 761 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria. The average number of cases diagnosed in the last 14 days for metropolitan Melbourne is 36.2 and regional Victoria is 1.8. The rolling daily average case number is calculated by averaging out the number of new cases over the past 14 days The total number of cases from an unknown source in the last 14 days is 52 for metropolitan Melbourne and zero for regional Victoria. The 14-day period for the source of acquisition data ends 48 hours earlier than the 14-day period used to calculate the new case average due to the time required to fully investigate a case and assign its mode of acquisition. The overall total has increased by 24 due to nine cases being reclassified. Within Victoria, 10 of the new cases are linked to outbreaks or complex cases and five are under investigation. Of today’s 10 cases linked to outbreaks, four are linked to aged care (Baptcare Wyndham Lodge, Estia Keilor, Japara Elanora and Edenvale Manor), four are linked to existing outbreaks (Alfred Hospital and Dandenong Police Station) and two are linked to complex cases which remain under investigation. Of today’s 15 new cases, there are three cases in Greater Dandeong, two cases in Manningham, Moreland and Wyndham and singles cases in Boroondara, Frankston, Melton, Moonee Valley and Whittlesea. One case is subject to further investigation. There have been five new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday. One man aged in his 70s, two women in their 80s, one man in his 90s and one woman in her 100s. Three deaths occurred prior to yesterday. All of today’s five deaths is linked to a known outbreak in an aged care facility. To date, 771 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria. The average number of cases diagnosed in the last 14 days for metropolitan Melbourne is 29.4 and regional Victoria is 1.1. 22.01.2022 A large group made their way by foot from Cudgewa to Towong on Saturday morning to increase awareness of mental illness and raise funds for the Black Dog Institute. The ‘One Foot Forward’ walk remembered two local young men, James Penman and Sam Hill who took their own lives this year. The 25km walk started at the Cudgewa Hotel, then proceeded along Back Cudgewa Road to Colac Colac Caravan Park, then onto the walking track into Corryong and onwards to the Towong Racecourse.

19.01.2022 Towong Shire - Australia Day Awards Another local champion recognised Tintaldra Hotel Darren Jones: Tintaldra Hotel took on the responsibility of looking after the citizens of the Tintaldra area during the fires last summer. The pub became the place for all donations of food and supplies this was twofold where residents could pick up supplies that they needed and the pub prepared meals with donated food items that went to those who were without power for weeks. The Tint...aldra pub became the centre of communication and kept spirits alive. (Details of this award were not included in the Towong Council media release).

16.01.2022 Police hunt for hoon driver Corryong police are seeking information from the public about a hoon driving incident last Wednesday night. Police received reports of a vehicle revving loudly and racing through Corryong streets at excessive speed.... The incident occurred around 11.45pm and went on for 10 to 15 minutes. Police were unable to locate the vehicle and are now asking for any witnesses to contact them on 02 6076 1666.

The overall total has increased by 27 due to one case being reclassified. This is the first time Victoria has recorded under 30 cases in a day since 24 June, when we reported 20 cases in the past 24-hour period. Within Victoria, 14 of the new cases are linked to outbreaks or complex cases and 14 are under investigation. There have been eight new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday. One woman aged in her 60s, two men aged in their 80s and three women and two men aged in their 90s. Four of the deaths occurred prior to yesterday.
