23.01.2022 FAQ #9 - What age does triathlon cater to ? Age is no barrier to completing a triathlon - we have an event on our calendar to cater for all age groups. Our most... senior competitor last year was in his 70’s - what a champion still out there having a go, and we had a 2 year old accompanied by mum in our Slash-Dash-Dawdle at the ‘Couch to Coast’ Family Triathlon Day at Killarney. We have some families who participate - kids, mum/dads and grandparents which is amazing - and what an example they’re setting for their families - being healthy, active and having a go. #ThisGirlCan So grab your crew, young or old and try something new - we guarantee you’ll have a ball in a fun and supportive environment! Please note that our junior events are for ages ‘Under 7’s’ through to 12 year olds. 13+ can then compete in our open events - come and tri distances. We use Tri Australia guidelines to set the distances for the juniors to ensure they’re appropriate and safe for the kids. And by all means if the distances seem too long for you’re kids, they can easily drop down and complete a shorter distance.

19.01.2022 Come down to The Blue Hole (Hopkins river) tomorrow (Thursday) at 6pm to give open water swimming a go. If you're feeling unsure, we can stick close to the shore. The biggest challenge can be just taking that first step! Barnsey and Kate will be on hand to help, support and answer any questions you may have. More experienced swimmers are welcome too

15.01.2022 FAQ #5 - What happens if I start an event and can’t finish ? Jumping in and having a go is what we love to see. Do as much of our events as you can - and if y...ou can’t complete the whole event, that’s no problem at all - we just ask that you make your way back to the transition area and let one of the Marshall’s know so we can account for you As a courtesy to other race goers and for safety - we don’t allow people to collect their gear from transition until the last participant has finished the event - so stick around and give everyone else a cheer on while you wait And just remember - the Duathlon this Sunday is a great event to do as a team if you’re not up to the whole thing yourself - maybe you enjoy jogging and your friend or family member loves to bike ride - team up and tackle the event together! How you make up the team and what legs you do is up to you Go on .... ‘Join in on the fun, be healthy, challenge yourself’

14.01.2022 Ever wanted to do a tri, but not sure where to start Barnsey who is one of our Tri Vic Foundation Coaches, has pulled together a training program targeted... at begineers who want to have a go at one of our short distance tris for the first time - maybe our January Blue Hole Mini’s or the Come-and-Tri distance at Foreshore on the 9th February. Shuffle the days around to suit work/kids/life - and don’t forget to maybe come along to our training on Tuesday and Thursday nights to ask any questions you might have or to meet others getting involved for the first time. So go on - what are you waiting for - join in on the fun, be healthy, challenge yourself

08.01.2022 FAQ #7 - What do I wear for a triathlon ? And is there any specific tips for the ladies ? The number one rule - don’t wear anything new for the first time on... raceday, be sure to have tested out everything at least once in training. Otherwise you’re asking to be uncomfortable - think chafe, blisters, rubbing etc Starting with the swim leg - Bathers, tri wear or wetsuits are all suitable to wear for our events. You will need to wear googles and a swim cap - the swim cap not only helps to keep your ears warm, but it helps with visibility of participants for our water safety crew. You can bring your own swim cap, or collect one from our caravan when signing in for the event. If you are choosing to wear a wetsuit - under your wetsuit you will wear either your tri shorts and shirt or tri suit or you can wear bathers so you can easily change into your gear (shorts and T-shirt) when you get into transition. (Don’t forget transitions are in the open, there isn’t ‘change rooms’ as such - so make sure you keep your modesty - for your own sake and everyone else’s ) For first timers - Bathers and then popping on a T-shirt/singlet and some shorts is a great way to start - there is no need to race out and purchase anything new just for having a go. And then if you do decide you’d like some new gear - why not check out if we have any tri club merchandise in your size - most of our merchandise is a bargain at clearance prices - so a good way to get you started for cheap! On your feet - consider whether you want to wear socks. Extra time in transition to dry feet is better than blisters Bike shoes are not a necessity - many people pop on a pair of runners for both the bike and run legs - whatever you’ve got and whatever you own is perfectly ok. And thanks to Sandy McDonald and Claire Farrer a couple of additional tips for the ladies #ThisGirlCan .... Ensure you have a good sports bra that doesn’t rub and is well worn. If your going to wear just bathers for the swim, bathers that give some kind of support are ideal, or you could consider wearing a sports bra underneath for added comfort and support on the bike and run legs if you think you’ll need it. Don’t forget multiple hair ties if you have long hair. That one time you only have one it goes missing or even worse breaks which is disastrous for long hair!! And one for everyone - participants AND supporters - have a think about being SunSmart - as hopefully the weather is kind to us and the we have the shining above for our races this season - Lastly - don’t be intimated by what others are wearing - we have some guys and girls who have all the gear and look like pros - but we also have LOTS of people participating in very basic attire - we don’t care what you wear, as long as your comfortable - your out there having a go and that’s just awesome

07.01.2022 Came across this podcast recently and this interview with Renee Kiley describes the journey of a pack-a-day smoker doing her first triathlon through to competing in the Kona Ironman. A pretty amazing story about what might be possible when you take that first step outside your comfort zone! Check it out: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5Fn3U7gjboU664m8WrDYvv

06.01.2022 Some of us may have a bit of extra time for reading/podcasts at the moment...! Here's one for the gals! Check out this generous offer from Dr Stacy Sims (author of Roar).

01.01.2022 Drum roll please ..... it is with Optimism that we present out Calendar of Events for the 2020-2021 Season! Kicking off with a Virtual Duathlon, we hope to re...turn to in person racing by the time we get to Killarney late November. We will have a COVID plan in place, which may include the need to limit the number of people that can enter each event, and there will be some tweaks to the way we run our events - but with a dedicated Committee we are up for the challenge of adapting to any curveballs that get thrown our way! Pop the dates in your diary and get excited See more
