25.01.2022 For the first time in 3 years I am taking a break over the christmas/new year period. Usually during this time, I only have the public holidays off. This year has been busy with taking my counselling services online due to COVID, starting a second counselling practice in Rosewood and commencing post grad studies along with family responsibilities of having 3 teenagers. My final day of appointments for 2020 will be Friday 18 December.... I will be returning on Monday 4 January 2021. I still have appointments available for the rest of the year and I already have bookings for 2021. If you would like to make appointment or want to know more about my counselling services please message this page or email [email protected] . If you want to contact me by phone it's best to text 0450 365 573 and I will call you back when I am not in a counselling session.

22.01.2022 I've been working on more projects for Connect and Create 2021. This one uses the image of a tree to tell my story of strength and resilence through my past, present and future. I am also working on a 3D version. Keep reading to see how we can work together creatively in 2021. . .... . . . Want to spark your inner creative in 2021? Join me for a weekly dose of creative inspiration and guidance. learn how to express yourself in different ways enhance your creativity process learn more about yourself connect with your self and others enhance your wellbeing Throughout 2021 you will receive 52 creative art prompts and activities to help improve your wellbeing. All you really need is a sense of curiosity and a willingness to try something different. If you are a person who finds yourself thinking in pictures or sometimes feel like words are an inadequate way to express your thoughts or feelings, you might find creative arts to be a good fit for you. I am a qualified counsellor in expressive art therapies who helps you to learn how to express your thoughts, feelings and emotions using creative arts. It is about the process not the end product. Connect and Create is a combination of my studies and work in counselling, neuroscience and expressive art therapies. It incorporates creative art, music, movement, dance, paint, collage, drawing, sculpture, writing, poetry. For only AU$60 for the year, everyone who signs up has access to the weekly emails and a private facebook group. This group will only be for those who have committed to Connect and Create for 2021. If you would like some ongoing wellbeing support while being part of Connect and Create 2021 I have special packages available. These include every now and then check ins or monthly 30mins/60mins check ins. I have made these available as some of the processing you do with creative art may bring up some thoughts/feelings/emotions that require extra support. To register please message this page or email [email protected] Registration closes 21 December and we kick off on Monday 4 January 2021.

22.01.2022 Some useful tips here. It's so important to take time to do things that make you feel good and give your mental health a boost. There is no one way to to improve mental health. What do you do that works for you? What tips will you take on?

21.01.2022 At school I always struggled academically. When I finished highschool I thought no tertiary education for me as I'm not smart enough. At age 46 I graduated with my counselling degree. This week at age 49 I graduated with a post grad degree in neuroscience. Letting go of old negative self beliefs is a process. Sometimes they don't entirely disappear but we learn to not let those thoughts control us anymore.

17.01.2022 Part of my work with women is to help bring clarity as they struggle through life transitions. These transitions can come at any stage of life. 16.01.2022 I was scheduled to attend a conference on Dec 2,3 & 4. Today I found out I don't have to attend the third day. This means I now have Friday 4 December open to take appointments. Message this page or email [email protected] if you would like a Friday session. Morning and afternoon sessions are available.

15.01.2022 "When we were young, we said, 'This is what I am going to do with my life.' When we grew old, we said, 'What happened to the dream?' When we were young, we wanted to do something great for humanity. Now we may feel stuck in a job, bored with our work, or lost in retirement. Our enthusiasm has waned. We feel that life has disappointed us or that there is not much new to discover The question is not whether you have experienced loss, but rather how you live your losses. Are yo...u hiding them? Are you pretending they aren't real? Are you trying to convince yourself that your losses are little compared with your gains? Are you blaming someone for what you have suffered and lost?.... There is another optionthe possibility of mourning. Yes, you can mourn your losses. You cannot talk or act them away, but you can shed tears over them and allow yourself to grieve deeply. You can never get to the joy if you dare not cry... If you don't mourn you can become bitter. All your grief can go right into your deepest self and sit there for the rest of your life" (Henri Nouwen) See more

14.01.2022 We often talk about Someday but usually that day doesn't come. Turning Someday into Today takes courage and strength. If you need support please make Today your Someday.

14.01.2022 IT'S WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY! This year it's more important than ever to look after your mental health well-being. Take some time today to check-in with yourself and ask "Am I OK?" Acknowledge that it might have been a bit of a rough year this year but you've gotten this far. Look for the strengths that have pulled you through. Connect with your loved ones, do something that brings you joy, and most importantly - be kind to yourself

13.01.2022 Yesterday I spent the whole day doing self care for me. No I didn't go to a retreat, meditate or do any deep soul searching. I went to a workshop to learn cheese making, fermenting and making sourdough. Self care for me includes learning more about my interests outside of work and study. This refreshes my soul and and I also receive the satisfaction of reaping the rewards from my day. I brought home the sourdough ready to bake and this morning had handmade sourdough toast... for breakfast. Learning new skills and interests is great for our self care. #sourdough #cheesemaking #fermenting #homemade #selfcare #soulcare #mentalhealth #wellbeing #counselling

13.01.2022 When someone first comes to therapy quite often co-regulation is needed until self-regulation is possible.

12.01.2022 If you feel like you can’t function at full capacity right now, there are very good reasons why. Inspired by my dear friend Amy, whose conversation with me on this topic made me say Ohhhhhh. I guess I should stop beating myself up, then. (I haven’t, but I am trying.)

12.01.2022 Today was my last day for 2020. I will be reopening on Monday 4 January. Thank you to everyone that I have worked with this year. Thank you for showing courage in choosing to work with me and sharing your lives with me. Each week I am privileged to work with some amazing people. For anyone considering to take part in my Connect and Create journey it's not too late to register. See pinned post for more details.... I would like to wish you all a safe and peaceful holiday. We all celebrate this time of year differently so however you celebrate may it bring you some happiness. Take care xx

11.01.2022 The 11th October was World Coming Out Day. There are many reasons why someone may not feel comfortable or safe in telling others about being lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer. How you react to being told is so important to their mental health and wellbeing. I really hope your reaction is one of love to a fellow human being who (most likely) is feeling vulnerable. The post below has great advice on how not to and how to react when someone shares with you.

10.01.2022 We all need attention and affection and that's what pets give us. Pets are good for our mental health: they reduce stress... provide companionship fulfill the human need to touch they require routine and organisation provide a sense of purpose increase your social interaction The bonds between people and their animals are powerful. Caring for an animal gives us a sense of purpose and meaning. In my house we have a dog and 2 cats that we interact with every day. I often find myself talking to my dog and that helps me to create peace and reassurance from her unconditional love.

10.01.2022 It's ok if everything doesn't feel merry and bright

10.01.2022 Art in therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being. The creative process involved in expressing one’s self artistically can help people to resolve issues as well as develop and manage their behaviors and feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem and awareness. The focus is on the process and not the final product, art in therapy is not about becoming a gr...eat artist but about finding meaning and connection in your life. All you need for it is a willingness to experiment. If you decide to include art in your sessions with me remember that you are not learning how to be an artist or even art techniques, you are learning how to express yourself through art.

09.01.2022 During therapy sessions I will ask the people I work with about their progress and what they see is different to when they first started attending therapy. Often it's not till we look back that we see how far we have come. Your progress is unique and won't look like anybody else's. The counselling space I offer is a caring, supportive and welcoming environment which helps you gain a deeper insight into healing and restoration of your inner-being (your innerspace).

08.01.2022 Yesterday I took some time out and attended a candle making with intention workshop. I used several crystals and added bush flower essence. The word I used was Courage. It represents having the courage to be me, courage to continue my own healing journey and the courage to try new challenges. For the people I work with, may you have the courage to trust yourself and your healing journey

05.01.2022 The past month has been a bit crazy so haven't been posting as often. 04.01.2022 This time of year means different things to many people. Whatever that meaning is to you may it bring peace to you, peace to others and peace within. We all belong to each other.

03.01.2022 A shelf, box or bag with some of your favourite things can bring you comfort and joy on the days you are struggling or feeling down. For mine I would include the book Charlotte's Web (my childhood favourite) art supplies, candle, Absolutely Fabulous dvds (always makes me laugh no matter how many times I've seen them), teapot (I love my cups of tea) my favourite mug and my affirmation cards I made. How about you? What would you include for yours? ... https://www.thesimplethings.com/blog/mental-health-shelf

01.01.2022 A great resource from Brene Brown. Letting go of unhelpful thoughts and habits and cultivating new ones takes time, practice and support.
