20.01.2022 Remembering all the women who suffered in wars (and continue to today) through losing their loved ones to actually being part of the killing . We remember you. The planes they flew were really slow... they could slow them down below the stall speed of any German fighters that went after them. Quite a few nazi pilots discovered that the hard way. Remarkable courage.... For those not in the know, Night Witches were Russian women bombers who bombed the German lines in WW2. Thing is though, they had the oldest, noisiest, crappiest planes in the entire world. These planes were so noisy that to avoid alerting the Germans hearing them on their approach (and risk facing their anti aircraft guns), these Night Witches would climb up to a certain height, coast down to german positions, drop their bombs, then climb OUT ON THE WINGS OF THE PLANE TO RESTART THEIR ENGINES IN MID AIR, then climb back in and get the the hell out of dodge. Their leader flew over 200 missions and was never captured. pilots. women pilots rock how is this not taught in every single history class ever? source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Witches... 16.01.2022 Congratulations and thank you to everyone who helped get the branch reopened and welcome to the our new members. We will be meeting on the first Thursday of the month at the Lismore CWA rooms. What a happy bunch of vegemites we are.
16.01.2022 The Far North Coast Group of NSW CWA are excited to announce that the Lismore Day branch is reopening after being closed for the past year. Narelle Gotting, President of the Far North Coast, said There were a number of issues that took place last year resulting in the branch being closed. Coronavirus then postponed any reopening ideas floating around in the community, but we now have enough women interested that it is time the Branch reopens, just in time to celebrate 96 ye...ars of the Lismore Day Branch. The AGM will be held on November 17 at 9.30 for a 10am start where we will vote in a new committee. There are a number of interested women willing to step up. Unless we hear any differently Aliison Kelly is happy to come on board as President, Margaret Seydel as Treasurer and Robyn Kelly as Secretary. They will be supported by two experienced CWA women as Vice-Presidents Helen Dargin and Bev Payne. Rae Saul, the Branch’s long-term Patron, who has been a member for 50+ years and the oldest member at 94 years has been meeting with the women encouraging the Branch to reopen. The branch is now looking for new members interested in learning and supporting other women, social outings, community participation, a love of cooking and craft with a real desire to make a difference to other people’s lives. The Lismore Day Branch plans to start slowly building its capacity as more women join the branch over the next few months. The branch welcomes any new or previous members to our AGM to hear what the women are planning moving forward. 15.01.2022 It's a wonderful time to reflect on how far women have come. Still a way to go for equality but the march continues. The NSW CWA is an important organisation that supports all women and has been running for over 98 years. Congratulations Kamala Harris from a small country town in northern NSW, Australia.
09.01.2022 We are back and baking....or at least dreaming of baking.
08.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS from the Tuesday morning CWA social craft group. Today is our last day of craft for the year! Please contact Lorraine Wallace if you would like to join us next year. You don’t have to be a CWA member to come along and learn some new crafts together.
