25.01.2022 Once you become an adult we should do our best to not allow other people to steal our joy. Especially from activities we enjoy. Do an audit of the people arou...nd you every now and then are they taking energy or giving it? Do they leave you feeling empowered or defeated? Do they leave you with knowledge or confused? Do they give you energy or drain it? If you can’t put up walls or compartmentalise these relationships you need to distance yourself. Choose your tribe, choose your mentors, choose your team, make sure they are on your side and not holding you back.... Humans are not like dogs you can leave them if you need too Coach Bone Courage Training Centre

25.01.2022 #coachtalk Learn to drown out the negative voices! Listen to the doers, the movers, the action takers, the problem solvers!

23.01.2022 Successful people have several things in common! If you can work towards these things you can have everything and anything that you set your mind too! 1. They... are grateful for what they already have the good and the bad. 2. They take responsibility for their actions and behaviors. 3. They pay attention to the details, listen and apply well. 4. They are disciplined and see the value in strong routine. 5. They have positive self talk. 6. Their attitude is positive and has a positive effect on those around them. 7. They do extra. Not because it’s asked. But because they love it. 8. They surround themselves with the right people. Limiting time with people that are not helpful and maximizing time with people who are supportive. 9. They seek out coaching and feedback. 10. They know themselves and what they want and have a plan to get it. 11. They believe in trying to be a better person everyday. 12. They believe in themselves and their team. 23.01.2022 If you can accept the discipline, suffering and humbling nature of martial arts the benefits really do outweigh the costs. We have setup and environment and class structure geared for education, high performance skills and personal growth. We believe no matter where you are now we can help you get better. Check out what our members have to say. "It may be cliche to say that MARTIAL ARTS saves lives, but in my experience it has certainly brought about positive change and has ...been a strong catalyst for growth and personal development, in many areas of life. It can be equally humbling and gratifying. After committing to show up willingly day after day to deal with the attrition experienced in a martial art, everyday challenges pale into insignificance. Courage Fitness Centre has become a home away from home, and its members have become great friends. I would recommend anyone to get involved here at TeamCourage." Send us a message if your ready to commit to your martial arts and fitness journey with us. We have classes in MMA, Muay thai, Boxing, Brazlian Jiu Jitsu, Kids Martial Arts and Fitness.

18.01.2022 Look at the people around you. If they’re not on the side of what’s good for you, then it’s best you distance yourself as much as possible. First, you must decide what’s good for you! Maybe you’ve just started lifting weights and noticed you’re getting stronger. We can put that in the ‘Good For You’ column. Perhaps you’ve attended your first kick boxing class and didn’t let the butterflies in your stomach turn the car around. You’re becoming more confident, so let’s put that ...in the ‘Good For You’ column too. Unfortunately, you may have a person or people around you who don’t want you racking things up in the ‘Good For You’ column. What’s good for you can shine a light on things that maybe aren’t going so well for them, and they may start to try to drag you down. ‘Oh I didn’t think you were brave enough for kickboxing, they’re probably going easy on you’, or ‘You don’t look any stronger, are you sure you’re even training hard?’ These comments sound horrible when typed out, and they are! Sadly, these comments are common when people are trying to keep you from bettering yourself. They’re just trying to make themselves feel better about everything they’re not doing. When something good happens to you, or you’re doing something good for yourself, friends will be happy about that! They won’t be bitter and resentful quite the opposite. They will build you up and motivate you to do more! When something bad happens, they won’t try to top it with something worse that happened to them or secretly gloat about your misfortunate. Instead, they will brainstorm with you ways to make things better and help you get back on the proverbial horse. Build a team around you a team with the shared goal of self-betterment through whatever medium you all enjoy. You must build each other up and grow as a unit a rising tide raises all ships. Double down on those who are good for you. Walk away from anything that undermines you becoming the best version of yourself possible. - Coach Steve

18.01.2022 Many people are opposed to the idea of running. It takes time, it’s uncomfortable in the beginning, and the heavier you are the harder it is. However, there are a whole host of benefits to running that simply cannot be ignored. Even 5 to 10 minutes a day is enough to improve your heart health. Your resting heart rate decreases over time when you run regularly, which means your heart becomes more efficient and doesn’t need to work as hard. People who run have a drastically re...duced risk of dying from cardiovascular disease due to their heart and lungs become more resilient and robust. This is especially beneficial as a defense against anything invasive that attacks the respiratory system. Running is fantastic when combined with resistance training, and as warmups for striking and grappling training. Running also strengthens your bones, muscles, and joints. If running is a regular part of your exercise routine, you are less likely to suffer from knee osteoarthritis compared to those who never run. Every time your foot hits the ground, gravity causes stress to your bones and cartilage that then adapt over time to become stronger. Simply walking or swimming will not have the same reinforcing effect that running does. However, too much running can become a negative. This will be different for everybody. Start small and start slow! Jog until you can no longer jog, then walk until you can jog again. If your jog can become a faster run at any point, turn it up a notch! But don’t beat yourself up if you need to dial it back. Just like resistance training, a plan of action and recording your performance for running can be extremely beneficial. Consistency is key, and it will unlock all the health benefits of running for you.

18.01.2022 Thanks for bringing great energy this week team! Well-meaning, helpful, good-natured attitudes of mind have not come to be honored on account of their usefulness, but because they are states of richer souls that are capable of bestowing and have their value in the feeling of the plenitude of life. 07.01.2022 We can survive for quite a long while without food or water. However, unless you are extremely trained to do so, you can’t survive for long without air. More than 30 seconds without oxygen and your body and brain start becoming compromised; minutes longer and you’re going to be in a bad place. We oxygenate our body via breathing. This enables our cells to perform correctly and enables our performance during exercise to remain optimal. Compromise your breathing patterns and y...ou will notice an immediate drop in performance. For all intents and purposes, we are meant to inhale and exhale through our noses to ventilate optimally. At rest this is easily achievable, but many of us still use our mouths to ventilate. If you are a chronic over-breather, you likely inhale and exhale shallow breaths via the mouth, never fully filling or depleting your lungs of air. This can be a result of anxiety, poor intercostal muscular strength, or a pattern you developed at a young age and never knew to rectify. Luckily, you can start improving right now! Nasal breathing helps develop aerobic capacity. Once your body starts producing lactic acid, or the burning feeling in your muscles, you may find you switch to inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. Once exercise becomes maximal, it may be impossible to use your nose and you may need to rely solely on your mouth for breathing. However, the more conscious control we can have over our nasal breathing, the more we can control our metabolic shifts with exercise. The longer we can steadily inhale through our nose, the longer we can stave off the lactic acid build up and drop in performance. To start improving your lung capacity and optimal breathing patterns, use nasal only breathing in your warmups. Once you absolutely need to start using your mouth to exhale, take a note of the time. Next time you warm up, try to beat that time that you exclusively use your nose to breathe. Over time, this will result in an improvement of fitness by just controlling your breathing! The ‘3 deep breaths’ method of recovery between sparring rounds or after intense activity is a great way to start thinking clearly. Inhale as much air in as you can via the nose, and exhale as much air out as you can via the mouth. Repeat this 3 times, then try to exclusively use nasal breathing for the rest of your recovery time. It is a tried and tested method to calm your nerves, restore your oxygen debt, and get back in the fight. Coach Steve

07.01.2022 Improving your cardio is possibly the best thing you can do for martial arts performance and skill development. Think about it when you’re tired, you’re not s...trong. When you’re tired, you’re not fast. When you’re tired, you can’t think clearly. From a learning perspective, it’s difficult to acquire new information if you’re out of breath and still recovering during your coach’s instruction. From a grappling perspective, regular running has great benefits. If your opponent is technically better than you, you can push the pace if you’ve got greater endurance. They will get tired before you, and then they will make mistakes. Assuming the skill gap isn’t enormous, this can give you the edge and enable you to acquire a submission that from a pure skill perspective may have been out of reach. In striking, a tired opponent will move their feet less and therefore stay in front of you. This allows you to attack with your straight-line weapons and have a greater chance of landing them as they may be too tired to angle off. Furthermore, unless they’ve perfected their guard, fatigued shoulders will cause hands to drop and expose the head to strikes. If you run regularly and they don’t, often you’ll have the advantage after only a couple of minutes. Cardio is difficult! Luckily, doing difficult things regularly increases toughness and resilience. If you run even when your muscles are sore, you’re pushing through pain into strength. If you push the pace and run faster even when your lungs are on fire, you’re developing your resistance to quitting when the going gets tough. This translates directly to fighting your way out from the bottom in a grappling scenario or sparring a fresh opponent when you’re already 3 rounds deep. Mental toughness developed through cardio like running will come to your aid. Run more, or at the very leastMOVE MORE! - Coach Steve
