21.01.2022 sunday morning light.

20.01.2022 Before I disappear and retreat for a bit.. I need to thank everyone who came last Thursday night to the little opening @bayleafcafe . Would also like to thank Dan, Niki, and Jesse for all the support and the opportunity to let me take over with my art. And thank you to @celiagalpinphotography for documenting the wall and night . I will eventually post some pictures but for now I need to retreat. Catch up on life and painting and taxes and crowdfund rewards and all sorts. I am ready for some days of silence! If you haven’t tried it before.. I highly recommend it. And if you can’t go a day. Do half a day, or an hour! I am feeling like tomorrow I will exist in some form of silence.

19.01.2022 Day 2. Process or progress? Same thing or different? Some said wow I changed it completely but it’s part of the process. The layers are needed to feel depth and No it’s not finished.

18.01.2022 Today’s studio.

17.01.2022 One consistent question I have been asked since getting back from my Finland residency @artelescreativecenter is what are some of the processes I want to bring back into my life here. There were many and I’m slowly going to adapt them into life here but one major one is Internet usage. We had to book internet time and had an hour at a time. Because I had no computer up until today. That has been easy as I have been going to the library And using their internet 2 times a week.... I took email off my phone in Finland and will not be putting that back on. I will also still limit my time but it’s about finding what works for each individuals life. I have had people say oh I couldn’t do that because of my work and I’m not one that believes in one size fits all approach to any methods of life. But I do belief we can take adaptions from many different methods and set our own pace and boundaries based on our own lives and restrictions. Due to my mental and physical health and it being cold and windy Im having an admin morning at home amongst puzzles and toys and hot coconut water and @bareblends vanilla protein strawberry almond milk! 16.01.2022 Imagine the joy in my heart when my daughter asked if we could read this again at bedtime! Love that she is interested in the history of colours as much as I am! She even went and got her rock collection as we were reading about blue and she has lapis lazuli stones.

15.01.2022 My version of red white and blue on the 4th of July. Little detail of something in the works! For now I will sign off of IG as all 4th posts of families and firework and BBQs are making me homesick and sad. I guess when ones self is exploring and researching nostalgia in their paintings those feelings are probably pretty appropriate! Haha. I will paint some hot pink and stripes and work through this whoa is me moment!!

14.01.2022 Day 4/5 but I guess technically 5/6 as I prepped the wall Tuesday.. then started my process on Wednesday... it’s now Sunday me I pretty much am finished! I might go back next with Collette and let her paint one more flower with me when she gets back. I would have loved for her to be here and see me paint the whole thing but I have been lucky I haven’t had to juggle motherhood and school holidays and painting this wall! Anyways...Thank you again to everyone who helped in all... ways possible! I really enjoyed the process and I’m overall content with the outcome. [my perfectionist part knows what I would change and do differently] I am now more informed about my studio practice and painting on this large of scale and also in this setting! 13.01.2022 Day 3...solid 6 hours of painting today. It has been incredibly interesting to experience my process, one that is usually done in the privacy of my studio, on such a large scale and public. I know those who work at cafe or have been watching it progress have probably wondering or thinking what the f**k?! Does she even know what she is doing as she keeps covering things up and changing things! Well the answer is an ambiguous one as no I don’t know what am doing but yes ...I also know what I’m doing! It’s the layers that tell stories and give it depth. Just like our memories we have many layers and some we like and some we don’t. But they all make us who we are. It’s the same for painting. I hope this makes people look at art differently. I hope this makes people really look. Look and try to find the marks that I painted 3 days ago. There won’t be anymore dramatic changes but I still have 1 more session with this wall before it’s finished! I wonder if the man who walked by this morning will be content as he saw me setting up and said I thought it was finished. To which I replied no not yet! And he responded with...good! And walked off! Haha! Well buddy I agreed! Thank you @bayleafcafe for the most delish veggie burger to keep my fueled. And of course to @celiagalpinphotography for taking photos and videos to document this process! 12.01.2022 After @bayleafcafe closed and as the sun started to set, @celiagalpinphotography went back to photograph the progress from day one. What I love about this photo is the rubbish! Yes I said the rubbish! It’s these paradoxes of life that I explore in my work! The beauty of a painting next to the rubbish! The chaos and the calm. As my process develops... from a place of chaos or scribbles As some might like to call it and move towards the calm which I hope is achieved today.

06.01.2022 Day 1. Well considering I was on maybe 4 hours sleep.. i am accepting of today’s results! Many people have to upscale their work, I have had to upscale my brushes and palettes. Brooms and mops and giant sponges and brushes. Approaching this as if it was a painting in my studio, today was about the ground work. Placing colours and shapes and marks upon one another. I had many ask what will it be.. and to be honest.. I don’t exactly know as that’s not how I work.. I have 3-4 po...ssible outcomes so just letting the process show me. I also had someone ask if I was helping my boyfriend! I looked around in bewilderment and said.. well I don’t see one here.. that’s because I’m painting! They quickly ate their words and said how they never see a pretty girl painting murals there! Then a few said oh we liked the mural before! [@bwconnollyart] I also had a homeless man say it’s nothing it’s just scribbles. To which I said.. what does nothing look like! Well.. art is subjective and as I understand the process and know it’s not the finished state, knowing that people will vide this as is now and have an opinion is definitely something as an artist you just have to get used to. [ I oscillate between a bit of doubt and confidence] thanks all to support. And thank you to @celiagalpinphotography whos photography and filming. To @skullcandyoz for paying for paint and for @bayleafcafe for the wall! And thanks to everyone who came and said hi and helped me out too! 05.01.2022 Finally enjoying school holidays with this one! Been a busy few weeks. Now a few days of this!!!

03.01.2022 Pre-splendor bender tea party. But don’t be fooled by what looks like perfect parenting. We laid in bed for an hour watching Bluey, and Yes that is a wi-fi modem about her head and 20 minutes prior to this she cried for 20 minutes saying we don’t get enough time together and that the house is always a mess!? And I went into full I’m a shit parent mode and my world around me and everything I feel I’m failing at (parenting, painting, friending, daughering, sistering,being an... adult, existing)decided to also feel like making the appearance even if it was for a nano second!! Long story short don’t be fooled by what you see here on social media. It’s literally just a moment from anyone’s lives that are portrayed on here. I could have just posted this lovely image of our tea party and left you thinking what a perfect parent I am! But no, we are about to go to a music festival in which part of me doesn’t believe children should actually be at and I’ll probably give her red cotton candy (fairy floss) and keep her up until well past her bedtime but hey.. we only live once!
